Hayes’ debut effort, I was suitably impressed. With this tale being a standalone and specifically not related to his previous trilogy, I was wondering how this effort would turn out be.Isabel de Rosier and Jacques Revou are two consummate thieves who have accomplished several different sorts of heists and larceny. Their most recent efforts have them squarely in the sights of Renard Daron, the shadow conceiller to the king of Sassaille. Isabel and Jacques are forced into a final job for Renard Daron and fiercely watched by Daron's two deadly shadows Franseza Goy & Amaury Roche. Going into a job blind, has never been their sort of thing but with all their bank accounts frozen and with not a single penny to their name. Isabel and Jacques must learn to dance to the shadow conceiller's tune however they are not without their own tricks.This was a very different offering from the author’s debut, and I’m glad for that very reason. So often authors tend to repeat what they have done before and they run the risk of being labeled as one-trick ponies. Rob J. Hayes certainly bucks that trend with this standalone tale about thieves coerced into working with a spymaster for his own nefarious ends. Also this story is a far cry from his previous work which made most grimdark stories look like YA ones.As with the previous books, the characters are what make this story so enjoyable, beginning with our main characters, who are quite an adorable duo. They keep the story from getting too dreary and also keep the reader entertained. Another plus point is that the author makes their voices distinct so as to not confuse them. Also with the other POV characters, they are quite individualistic and also make the story that much more intriguing. Ultimately this story is about wills and the deception that people engage in. With Isabel and Jacques, it’s all about their skills in fooling people into believing whatever they want them to. With Daron, it’s basically about the kingdom and its needs, however what Daron thinks what’s best for the kingdom might not be entirely correct.Amaury and Franseza aren’t given that much space but their motivations and instincts are quite clear to discern. The story is quite fast paced and has a reasonable amount of twists that will keep the readers wanting to know how it will all end. A trick the author utilizes is the use of flashbacks before the start of the chapters, which further help in fleshing out the story and the characters. Another plus point is that the world setting which includes air ships, guns and a remarkable type of creature that the readers will have to find out more on their own. The world technology level is set about a pre-industrial level and the characters and world seems to be based on French culture which is a slightly refreshing change from the usual British one.I thought this book was a fun read that offered some remarkable twists and ended the tale on a strong note. The ending however also lends to a sequel should the author ever want to revisit the world but the ending I must say is a proper one and the story can be considered complete. In the age of numerous series, it’s very refreshing to see a proper standalone story and in this case, it was good to see a different story from an author whom I have very high expectations for.CONCLUSION: "It Takes A Thief To Catch A Sunrise" by Rob J. Hayes is a surprisingly fun steampunk thriller even though it deals with deception, spy craft and other dastardly activities. Rob J. Hayes certainly is his own writer and know how to buck reader expectations and give a story which while different is no less a page-turner than his fabulous debut.

Airships, Alchemy, and Assassinations By Edea Pitre Baldwin At first, this book was so different from the Ties That Bind Trilogy, I was a little dismayed. But it didn't take long before the escapades of Jaques and Isabelle, master thieves and charlatans, caught my fancy. The pair are recruited to assume the guises of Baron and Baroness Bonvillain in order to gain social acceptance into the palace, where they discover a weak king who is easily controlled by their "employer" and a foreign queen about to birth the heir. The true nature of their mission is revealed only towards the end, when they realize no one can be trusted.This rollicking tale has duels, airships powered by crystals, deadly automatons, thrilling escapes, nefarious plots, murder and mayhem.......in short, all the elements of a great adventure! The finale leaves open the possibility of a sequel, which I am hoping the author carries out.The Kindle edition has some wording errors, but they don't detract from the overall story. Hopefully, these will be caught and corrected.

The Chinese are planning a southern invasion while the Europeans have landed in New York. Inner-city thugs and former Black Panthers are siding with radical Muslims. Cities are burning. All appears to be lost, yet there are men and women who have the heart of American revolutionaries. Even if they can not win, they will fight... Is the book prophetic or just an interesting "what if" book of fiction? ... Reading the book at times is irritating because the author lacks historical knowledge. The editing is terrible! And there is some questionable syntax. Even so, there are some remarkably politically incorrect story lines that too many writers would not touch with a ten-foot-pole. Richardson dares to confront some touchy issues regarding race. If you are sensitive to racial tensions in America I would say skip this book. If you are willing to confront these tensions, read away.

Morriss amazon buyer This is the second book of this series, I really enjoyed both books , the characters are all well defined and love them or hate them they all felt alive to me. Great story telling,interesting, a lot of no holds barred action. And of course sadness. I found myself getting anxious when Americans were getting the short end of the stick. But it made the book more than just a good read but a great book. Love it. Keep them coming.

When you do, you'll find yourself thinking about how possible this future could be. The naysayers will think there are too many checks and balances for such a sequence of events. I say turn off the History Channel and read some history of the lead up to WW2.

By David I wasn't completely sure what to expect when I first saw this book, but the description looked promising. I decided to go along with the purchase and I have to say I was in for an exceptional story.The author made me feel as though I was experiencing a completely new kind of criminal underworld that was wonderfully depicted by the author's own captivating and brilliant imagination. The plot is unlike any that I've read before and I was glued to the book the whole time.I would suggest reading this if you can enjoy a mystery that will leave you wanting more or even if you just want read a great story.This book took me on an immensely excited ride and I can't wait to read more by Dustin Brubaker in the future!

Every little girl needs a big daddy By Amazon Customer I gave rapture the big daddy five stars because one I was always curious about the whole big daddy and little sister bit in the video games like how did it all start and why and now I have my answer in this little short story we get a insight into the first big daddy Mr Arthur winters it starts with him and his family moving into rapture with a dream only to end in a nightmare which I don't want to give to much away but I did enjoy this short read I thought it was well told and aside from some misplaced words I did enjoy it I recommend to any true BioShock fan and new comers its a must read if you played any of the games

Nice short story, a little too short By Amazon Customer Rapture: Big Daddy was the story of how an emigrant family to Rapture became entangled in the plasmid trade. It was a good read over all, if a bit short. The story could have continued further to describe the main character's experience as a big daddy, but ended abruptly instead. Not bad for an adaptation from a videogame, though.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Best Book In The Series! By Teresa Loyalty is a wonderful conclusion to the Mark of Nexus series. It is action packed from beginning to end and the twists and turns keep you turning pages. Loyalty does not hold back and proves that happiness does not come without sacrifice. This book delivers everything you have been hoping for and surpasses expectations. It is new adult paranormal at its best.I think my favorite thing about this series has been the cast of characters. This book just delivers so many great characters that it is hard to know where to start. I guess I should start with Rena since it’s kinda her story. I love Rena. She has grown so much over the course of the series. She is feisty, strong, stubborn, and determined and I love that. I also love her wit and sarcasm.Then we have Wallace who I also adore. He has also shown a great deal of growth. Honestly, all of the characters have grown and I truly love that. They progressed along with the story and that was awesome. Wallace no longer lives in fear of himself and is finally beginning to live his life. I loved seeing him open up.And now we get to my favorite character. Cole. We all know how much I adore him and I swear to you, Cole stole the show in Loyalty. Every single time he showed up, he managed to become the center of attention and that didn’t surprise me in the least. He is still his funny and inappropriate self, but he has also grown up and he knows what is truly important now. I was so proud of Cole in this book.Loyalty is not like other new adult reads out there and I love it all the more because of that. The romance is the center of the story and what set everything into motion, but really it is about so much more than that. It is about the very serious threat to the world and what this little rag tag group can do to stop it. It has twists and turns everywhere you go and trust is not given easily by the reader. I loved the non-stop action.All in all, Loyalty is everything I was hoping for in a conclusion to the series. This is easily my favorite of the series and I loved seeing the characters I have come to love get the ending they deserved.

I've never liked the last book in any series UNTIL NOW. If anything, this last book in the Mark of Nexus series is better than the all the ones before it. This is one of my all-time favorite series. It's got romance (and the chemistry between Rena and Wallace? Damn.), adventure, intrigue, biting humor, action, mystery, suspense and incredible writing. This series has it all and the final book does not disappoint. I loved this and I was incredibly sad when it was over. Plus it was really gratifying as a reader to finally see Rena and Wallace come together in ways they weren't before. There were some really fascinating twists in this one too that I didn't see coming. All my favorite and most beloved characters were back and as always, Butler's signature wit was evident throughout. Just like the other books that came before this, it had a wonderful romantic element, lots of action and suspense and tons of intrigue. It was quite excellent. I know it had to end sometime but I sure didn't want it to. I am looking forward to seeing what Butler comes up with next but in the meantime, I'll be reading all of the Mark of Nexus books over again.

Reyna,Wallace, Cole and crew were dealt some harsh cards in this ordeal. Its horrible when your family becomes your enemy. Its horrible to see memories go up in smoke from the vengeful actions.Cole gives a wonderful performance with his antics and tribute to a brother like no other. There are some fantastic of Reyna and Wallace as they are united finally and forever.I know this is to be the final book, however I want to know if the love of these main characters can produce an heir to all that they are. Ms. Butler, thank you for a great read once again. Please give us a glimpse into the aftermath of the Mark...

About the Author Chris Tarry holds an MFA from the University of British Columbia, and has been published widely. Tarry takes on complex themes of manhood, family, desperation, loneliness and suspense and brings them to readers wrapped in fantastical stories topped with a wry humor bow. This is one of the best short story collections I have read in years! I can't praise it enough... Unlike many short stories I read in the New Yorker, these stories GO somewhere, land definitively and leave the reader touched, convulsed with laughter, sighing and wiping away tears, or shaking one's head with the shock of recognition at the human condition, and in particular, the male psyche. Amazingly captures the thinking of a man, a boy, a husband, a father, even a Middle Ages ne'r-do-well! Honestly, brilliant. The writing is dazzling, and yet never shows off...just conveys truth in a beautifully specific voice....I'm so glad I read this, and I know I'll return to these stories again soon.

The thirteen short stories are a great read, full of humanity, tragedy and dark humour. Chris has a special gift for tackling the human character with respect to love, loss, comedy and tragedy. His characters are varied and brilliantly "chosen", one can identify with one or the other. the same goes for the scenarios - I'm sure we've all been there or know somebody who has. My personal favourites are "Nennorluk Goes Down Deep" and "For the Likes of John Muir". I couldn't put the book down. In some ways, the writing reminded me of Kurt Vonnegut in parts, in a sort of "Cat's Cradle" or "Breakfast of Champions" way but with its own strong integrity, simply brilliant. I am very much looking forward to Chris' next work. I can't wait...

Gods, Goddesses and Adventure By Martin Schiller Reasby combines the myth and mystery of one of the world's oldest civilizations with both modern and ancient characters, and creates a rich and entertaining tapestry of tales. I found each ‘day’ in this collection to be a wonderful new discovery. This is by far, one of this author’s best works, and I look forwards to reading more about the characters that she has brought to life within its pages.

Definitely a Beginner's Book By Debra B The recipes look good, but I'm not sure this is a strictly Paleo diet - although eating grass-fed beef and organic fruits and vegetables are. I don't think that was clear enough in the explanation of why certain foods were on the list, but the recipes do include. Also, I disagree that the Paleo diet alone (or any diet for that matter) is going to make anyone "fit". Fitness has nothing to do with how much you weigh. Fitness has to do with cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, and agility. A healthy lifestyle is comprised of both eating well and exercise.Otherwise, the recipies are something I am eager to try out.

Tasty and healthy By Jessie McIntyre I am definitely new to the Paleo style of eating, so I appreciate that this book talks about the diet itself and the benefits people have discovered by following it, as well as presenting recipes. There are lists of foods that are allowed on the diet, broken out into food types, and which ones to avoid (dairy and grains mostly). But you reap the benefits if you follow the Paleo diet to at least 80%, so there is some leeway, which you don’t always have with “diets”. I’ve only tried a few of the recipes so far, but the apricot power bars and pumpkin pancakes have been given a thumbs up by my family.

Moreover, the list of what to eat and what to avoid during Paleo Diet is very well explored. The recipes are mouthwatering, tasty and full of health benefits too. Paleo Apricot Power Bars look so beautiful and yummy.Thanks Michael for such an amazing book.

By Mary O Daniel is always able to create heroes who are likeable and very "human" in the aspect of being slightly flawed, which is one of my favorite things about his books. He is able to draw you into his world in the first few pages, and his books are always hard to put down. His "Requiem" books are written in the similar vein as Anne McCaffrey's Pern series. Where they are all stand alone trilogies, but they are all in the same world, and span over several thousands of years, yet each book always referring back to their history and the past heroes, kings, and wars in previous books. Great read, and like always, I am looking forward to more books by Daniel.

Schramm I enjoyed the story however I was disappointed that this book really has no ending, just a surprise twist and then no resolution. The next book won't be out until July. A reader should be able to enjoy a book and see some resolution at the end with out having to wait for the next part of the book to be released later. A book should have a beginning, a middle, and an end, not a to be continued.....

This one was just a great as his other Requiem books.The story between all of the characters kept me reading until I found I had finished the book. I know I had tears in my eyes a few times, laughed at others and I think I may have said "GRR" out loud a time or two.Bringing together a baker boy, a librarian, an old warrior, a younger warrior and a spy, the story develops quickly and will leave you begging for more from this series. The bad guys are SO freaking bad, and the good guys are awesome.I love that Daniel Arenson is not afraid to inflict damage to his characters too, all too often the would be hero's never get a scratch.

She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, and her master’s and doctoral degrees in child development and educational psychology from the University of Chicago. Berk has been a visiting scholar at Cornell University, UCLA, Stanford University, and the University of South Australia. She has published widely on effects of school environments on children’s development, the development of children’s private speech, and the role of make-believe play in development. She has been featured on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition and in Parents Magazine, Wondertime, and Readers’ Digest, and has contributed to Psychology Today and Scientific American. In addition to Infants, Children, and Adolescents, Berk's best-selling texts include Child Development, Development Through the Lifespan, and Exploring Lifespan Development, published by Pearson. Her other books include Private Speech: From Social Interaction to Self-Regulation; Scaffolding Children’s Learning: Vygotsky and Early Childhood Education; Awakening Children’s Minds: How Parents and Teachers Can Make a Difference; and A Mandate for Playful Learning in Preschool: Presenting the Evidence. Berk is active in work for children’s causes. She recently completed nine years of service on the national board of Jumpstart for Young Children and currently serves on the governing board of the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies. She is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, Division 7: Developmental Psychology. Adena B. Meyers is a professor of psychology and member of the school psychology faculty at Illinois State University. She received her bachelor’s degree in women’s studies from Brown University and her doctoral degree in clinical-community psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is a licensed clinical psychologist. Meyers' areas of specialization include contextual influences on child and adolescent development, with an emphasis on family-, school-, and community-based interventions that promote children’s social and emotional functioning. She has served as a consultant to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), and as a supervisor of mental health consultants working in Head Start preschool settings. She also supervises clinicians providing mental health services to elementary and secondary school students. Meyers' publications have focused on school-based consultation; adolescent pregnancy, parenthood, and sexual development; school-based preventive interventions; and the role of pretend play in child development. Her clinical interests include therapeutic interventions related to stress and trauma and mindfulness-based stress reduction. She has taught a wide variety of courses, including introductory psychology, child and adolescent development, human sexuality, introduction to women’s studies, and statistics for the social sciences.
