The final part of The Secret Bunker Trilogy ... The Earth is burning, the result of vicious sabotage on the terraforming programme that was meant to save it ... Two hundred nuclear weapons have been launched at key targets across the planet ... An alien species is gathering warships while the world sleeps, unable to defend itself ... A ruthless cybernetic army is about to erase all traces of life in the bunkers, controlled by their Queen ... And a genetic time bomb is ticking in the bodies of the only people who can put an end to this deadly assault. Dan Tracy must face his worst fears as he stares his new enemy directly in the eyes. But only one can survive the final battle in space, only one will make it out alive ... The Secret Bunker: Regeneration is the final story in the trilogy of books by author Paul Teague. What readers are saying about The Secret Bunker The Secret Bunker set a quick pace towards a culmination of events with a meeting of all the main characters and left me gripped along the way. It's not often I pre order the next book but I did in this case, there's no way I'm missing what happens next. ... Paul manages to provide an authentic teenage voice for his prime character all the way through. Looking forward to seeing what comes in the second of the trilogy which I've already pre-ordered, need I say more? Really enjoyed this adventure seen through the eyes of the teenage lead character - his voice was so true and compelling. I'm looking forward to reading the others and would rather like to go and visit the real bunker! I really enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down, I can't wait to see what happens next in book two! 5 Stars, I really enjoyed it! ... the action is intense and lots of twists and turns abound until the last page is turned ... The characters are well defined, plot is fantastic and the ending leaves us waiting for the next part ... Most highly recommended.  [Note: This book has a cliffhanger ending] The Secret Bunker: The Four Quadrants is the second in a trilogy of books by author Paul Teague. The Secret Bunker: Darkness Falls is the first book in the series and available on Amazon via Createspace and Kindle. Author Q&A What gave you the idea for The Secret Bunker Trilogy? We'd been on a trip to Anstruther in Fife, UK and needed a rainy day activity for the kids. Among the leaflets in our holiday cottage was one advertising Scotland's Secret Bunker. It was built to help safeguard Scotland during the Cold War in the event of a nuclear attack. The Secret Bunker lies 100 feet underground and is the size of two football pitches. It's an amazing place and we had a great visit, though the story idea didn't follow for some time afterwards. You can see Scotland's Secret Bunker for yourself at secretbunker.co.uk What made you start writing the trilogy? I'd spotted a writing competition online which was being run by Chicken House Publishing. My wife, my sister and one of my children had expressed an interest in writing, so I passed the competition to them. It only needed 5000 words to get started, so I guess this must have started percolating in my head. I woke up one morning with a very dramatic opening to a story. It was an image of somebody getting trapped in the bunker while their loved ones were running towards them. The huge bunker doors slammed shut, separating them, and I began to wonder what might have caused that to happen. I jumped out of bed and wrote the beginning of the story. It was much easier than I thought it would be to write a series of three books, I really enjoyed ramping up the level of jeopardy in each one. Further reading: Paul Teague has also written The Grid Trilogy.

Their struggles to not only survive, but be together were good. But, the basic underlying premise for the struggles was not what I expected. Can't wait to read Mark's story.

If no other knowledge deserves to be called useful but that which helps to enlarge our possessions or to raise our station in society, then Mythology has no claim to the appellation. But if that which tends to make us happier and better can be called useful, then we claim that epithet for our subject. For Mythology is the handmaid of literature; and literature is one of the best allies of virtue and promoters of happiness. Without a knowledge of mythology much of the elegant literature of our own language cannot be understood and appreciated. When Byron calls Rome "the Niobe of nations," or says of Venice, "She looks a Sea-Cybele fresh from ocean," he calls up to the mind of one familiar with our subject, illustrations more vivid and striking than the pencil could furnish, but which are lost to the reader ignorant of mythology. Milton abounds in similar allusions. The short poem "Comus" contains more than thirty such, and the ode "On the Morning of the Nativity" half as many. Through "Paradise Lost" they are scattered profusely. This is one reason why we often hear persons by no means illiterate say that they cannot enjoy Milton. But were these persons to add to their more solid acquirements the easy learning of this little volume, much of the poetry of Milton which has appeared to them "harsh and crabbed" would be found "musical as is Apollo's lute." Our citations, taken from more than twenty-five poets, from Spenser to Longfellow, will show how general has been the practice of borrowing illustrations from mythology. The prose writers also avail themselves of the same source of elegant and suggestive illustration. One can hardly take up a number of the "Edinburgh" or "Quarterly Review" without meeting with instances. In Macaulay's article on Milton there are twenty such. But how is mythology to be taught to one who does not learn it through the medium of the languages of Greece and Rome? To devote study to a species of learning which relates wholly to false marvels and obsolete faiths is not to be expected of the general reader in a practical age like this. The time even of the young is claimed by so many sciences of facts and things that little can be spared for set treatises on a science of mere fancy...

From Charles Martin's Introduction to Bulfinch's Mythology

In his Preface, Bulfinch firmly sets his work within the emerging American genre of self-improvement: Other kinds of knowledge may “enlarge our possessions or . . . raise our station in society,” and there are, of course, books that will tell us how to get rich quickly and how to behave when we have amassed our pile. But, perhaps because he had seen how fortunes may disappear overnight, never to be recovered, Bulfinch puts his faith in the kind of knowledge that can make us “happier and better.” This knowledge is the knowledge of literature, but we cannot understand the literature of our time without first understanding the mythology that literature so often alludes to.

How is this knowledge to be attained? Bulfinch is very certain about his audience. It does not consist of members of his own class, the privileged few who have had the benefits of a classical education and would have acquired such knowledge already or at least have the leisure and the means to acquire it. His audience has never gone with Homer to Troy; the Trojan War is new to them; and they want to know how the story comes out in the end: “Our readers will be anxious to know the fate of Helen, the fair but guilty occasion of so much slaughter.” As Bulfinch must have known, Helen is the creation of the poets who wrote about her, and different poets provided her with different fates. Americans love happy endings, so Bulfinch sees her reconciled at last with the husband she abandoned.

Bulfinch’s audience consists of those with whom he had come in contact during his long and unsuccessful career as a merchant, the self-made men and their wives, who do not want to have to choke down “only the dry facts without any of the charm of the original narrative.” They want the poetry, too, and they don’t have a whole lot of time to spend on getting it.

They want to be sure that this knowledge may be let into the parlors of their homes without creating any sort of offense “to pure taste and good morals.” Here a word must be said about Bulfinch’s prudery: His subservience to his society’s desire to pass over these offenses in silence resulted in a number of significant omissions. It is hard to see how it could be otherwise: The proper Bostonian of Bulfinch’s day, referring to a bull as Mr. Cow, would scarcely have known what to make of Queen Phaedra’s passion for the prize bull in her husband’s herd.

Bulfinch’s readers also want the assurance that this knowledge, so different from their daily experience, is worth having: “To devote study to a species of learning which relates wholly to false marvels and obsolete faiths is not to be expected of the general reader in a practical age like this. The time even of the young is claimed by so many sciences of facts and things that little can be set for spare treatises on a science of mere fancy.” It is not only the time but the energy as well. Bulfinch can sympathize with the tired businessman at the end of his long day in the office: “Thus we hope to teach mythology not as a study, but as a relaxation from study.”

This knowledge, easily acquired and promoting not only happiness but virtue as well, will allow the less privileged members of a restlessly mobile society access to the kind of lore that is the patrimony of the privileged. It is not, Bulfinch states explicitly, “for the learned, nor for the theologian, nor for the philosopher, but for the reader of English literature, of either sex, who wishes to comprehend the allusions so frequently made by public speakers, lecturers, essayists, and poets, and those which occur in polite conversation.” It is a little bit easier than it ought to be to mock Bulfinch’s tone here, but we would be seriously underestimating Bulfinch if we were to regard him as an elitist: His sentiments are as unabashed in their democratic impulse as those of Walt Whitman, in his preface to Leaves of Grass. Bulfinch wishes everyone to have access to the cultural tokens heretofore the possession of the few.

I've read D'aulaire's illustrated classics and Edith Hamilton. It doesn't matter if it's Greek, Roman, or even Norse. I find all of it interesting and fascinating. In fact, my wife is the same way. We hope to pass on this love of mythology to our son, so we are buying him mythology books at an early age, so that when he is old enough to appreciate them, they'll be ready and waiting for him. One book we recently added to our collection was Bulfinch's Mythology.Bulfinch's Mythology is a gorgeous leather edition, with the face of Medusa on the cover. The pages have gilded edges and there is a ribbon bookmark to mark your place. The book contains all three of the original titles, "The Age of Fable," "The Age of Chivalry," and "The Legends of Charlemagne." "The Age of Fable" not only includes Greek and Roman mythology, but brief mentions of Eastern mythology, Norse mythology, and the Druids. "The Age of Chivalry" begins with the legend of King Arthur and his knights, leads into Mabinogen (early British prose), and concludes with the likes of Beowulf and Robin Hood. Lastly, "The Legends of Charlemagne" discusses the paladins of Charlemagne.I skimmed through the parts on mythology and Arthur, as I am very well-versed in those subjects, so for me, the parts on Charlemagne were the best. The legends surrounding him and his paladins were a refreshing read. Were they chock full of history? No, but I didn't expect them to be. They were legends that made for fanciful tales and were a delightful read. The edition of this book was a delight to read and would make a good textbook for the high school classroom or homeschooling parent. So far, I have reviewed two books from the Canterbury Classics and each have been impressive in their quality. Highly recommended.

First the basics - it is a sturdy leatherbound edition with gold leaf pages and a ribbon book marker. The font is a pretty good size (I think about pt 10), making it fairly easy to read. There are also several great classical illustrations throughout the book of the various myths and stories. This is perfect for anyone interested in classical mythology or just looking for a good story. Bulfinch's Mythology covers the Greek, Roman, Norse, and Egyptian myths among others. The book also tells the stories of the Trojan War, Beowulf, King Arthur, Robin Hood, and many others. It is divided into three seperate sections: the Age of Fable, the Age of Chivalry, and the Legends of Charlemagne. This covers a wide swath of mythology to say the least. By reading it you will see where and how writers like Lewis, Tolkien, Scott, Shakespeare, and Milton were inspired. If you enjoyed this I would also recommend The Illiad and the Oddyssey by Homer (also Barne and Noble leatherbound edition) and Edith Hamilton's Mythology.

I sat who knows where with the rain falling down, completely drenched, my boots buried in the mud.

"Save the last bullet for yourself," someone once told me. I couldn't remember who. It was a long time ago, back when I was young, back before I knew just how hard things were, or were going to be, despite all the horrible things I'd already seen growing up. But I didn't have any bullets left. I didn't have anything but an empty gun.

GUNSLINGERS AND GRITTY SURVIVALISTS. OLD WEST TOWNS AND CRUMBLING 21ST CENTURY RUINS.

A wanderer turned outlaw and a fierce warrior woman of native blood roam the wastes of a dead civilization, battling cowboys, cannibals and the hot desert sun in a dark tale of love and fate set in the post-apocalyptic American Southwest.

Armed with his fearsome fire axe, the other with her deadly guns, the two renegades chance a desperate trek across the long, sweltering hell of the Mojave Desert, the ruthless band of lawmen who pursue them determined to bring the defiant pair to justice before they escape.

Strong violence. Adult themes and situations.

In the end, a tale about the impossibility of always being able to keep those you care about safe or avoiding your fate. Sad but true.

I liked the fast action pace and the distopian feel of the book. I liked it so much I didn't even finish reading it and ordered his other books. The characters are believable and the story line grabbed me right off. The book contains cannibals, racist gunslinger cowboy posses, slavers, dangerous opportunist, and people just trying to get along. Reading the book and seeing the hardships of the main character and his struggles gave a deep understanding of the authors line "save the last bullet for himself". Enjoyable read.

Hard to imagine that type off hellish wasteland and trying to survive.Lucious wasn't a bad man...just unlucky. Seems like the bad men were the winners in the end.Kudos to the author...well written with a likeable main character and a decent story line. Makes you wonder what goes on with people's imagination!I did enjoy this book & I will look for other works....

The Tree of Life, by Catherine Lucille Moore

About the Author Catherine Lucille Moore (1911-1987) was an American science fiction and fantasy writer, as C. L. Moore. She was one of the first women to write in the genre, and paved the way for many other female writers in speculative fiction. She was born on January 24, 1911 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was chronically ill as a child and spent much of her time reading literature of the fantastic. She left college during The Great Depression to work as a secretary at the Fletcher Trust Company in Indianapolis. Her first stories appeared in pulp magazines in the 1930s, including two significant series in Weird Tales. One series concerns the rogue and adventurer, Northwest Smith, and his wanderings through the Solar System; the other is a short fantasy series about Jirel of Joiry (one of the first female protagonists in sword-and-sorcery fiction). The most famous of the Northwest Smith stories is "Shambleau", which marked Moore's first professional sale. It appeared in the magazine in November 1933, with the sale netting her a hundred dollars. The first and most famous of the Jirel of Joiry stories is "Black God's Kiss", which received the cover illustration (painted by Margaret Brundage) in the October 1934 Weird Tales. Her early stories were notable for their emphasis on the senses and emotions, which was highly unusual at the time. Moore's work also appeared in Astounding Science Fiction magazine throughout the 1940s. Several stories written for that magazine were later collected in her first published book, Judgment Night, published by Gnome Press in 1952.

15 of 15 people found the following review helpful. A Northwest Smith Short Story By Elliot C.L. Moore was a popular author for Weird Tales magazine in the 1930s (and one of the first women to publish in the Science Fiction and horror pulps). In 1940, she married fellow author Henry Kuttner, and most of their work thereafter (whether published under Kuttner's name or under one of their pseudonyms) was a collaboration between Kuttner and Moore-- and stronger than most of the work either of them had done individually. When she was publishing in Weird Tales in the 30s, Moore wrote two separate series-- one was a series of sword & sorcery fantasies featuring a female protagonist, Jirel of Joiry; the other was a series of Sci-Fi/horror stories featuring a male protagonist, Northwest Smith. This Kindle book (it is only a single short story, but hey, it's free!) is one of the Northwest Smith stories (originally published in Weird Tales in 1936). Read on its own, it is an exciting piece of pulp fiction, if not a classic of the genre. The only problem is that too many of the Northwest Smith stories follow the same pattern-- Smith, fleeing his enemies (or the law-- often one and the same), escapes to an alien planet where he encounters some horrible monster, which almost kills him before he succeeeds in blasting it. That's exactly what happens here. A fun read, even if a bit formulaic.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. "Tree" of Death By Divine Play "The Tree of Life" begins as a typical fantasy/ sci fi amalgam of a hero transported into a fantasy world by a vaguely scientific methodology. But the reader should stay with the story, because it is a fascinating take on the concept of an evil deity ruling the Earth. In this case the Earth is a small island carved out of space and time. The denouement, in which the hero is drawn into the omnivorous "Tree," is powerful and immediate. Interesting reversal on the ethereal damsel in distress who becomes rapidly malevolent. This kind of story proves that the golden age of sci fi included some great women writers that are often unrecognized.

I enjoyed the mystical beginning of this short book but due to the title expected an uplifting story and was left rather disappointed

Ruins (Origo), by Tucker French

From the Author This is a collection of two short stories centered in the Origo universe. They act as supplemental reading and should answer a few questions the reader may have about what is going on back on Earth as the stories on Origo unfold.

About the Author At an early age, Tucker French fell in love with science fiction upon his introduction to the Star Wars franchise. From there, his imagination took over and he has decided to pursue a life of writing for his enjoyment. Tucker lives an active lifestyle outside of his writing and dabbles in the culinary arts. The young author can be found in the great state of Maryland with his Bengal and his Golden Retriever.

A difficult thing to achieve for an author but Mr. French does it well! Surprises come from all angles and characters you know, but don't expect, appear at critical moments. I loved this book and strongly recommend it to others. Truly worth reading. But be warned. It will leave you searching for more of Mr. French's work!

Rather not recommendable By tomkus Those are two connected stories set in not so distant future. The world is falling apart, reach people are evacuating two other planets. The rest are rioting and powers to be are not hesitating to shoot at them...Stories look to be incomplete, needing further polishing (in much quantity). It may be consistent with other stories in series, but as standalone ones they are quite queer.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Still good stuff By Alejandra Morales This book is much shorter than the previous two but content-wise it is just as good! The only things that bothered me were how short the stories were and how the first one is in first person while the second is in third. It was confusing to see first person since the first two books were in third. Not sure why, but this bothered me a lot.

You'll never read or absorb it all in one setting. However, just in randoming flipping through the pages, I found two useful items - keeping RAM space at a minimum (slows down or locks up computer if too much RAM is being used) and downloading music CDs, which I do a lot of.Can you find this info on line? Sure. You can google it. Or you can use the help feature in the drop down menu. But an older person like me wants a book in front of me so I can read the information & not worry about finding the best web page for a problem. As you would expect, there are ample illustrations to help you visualize the text. Hundreds of drop down menus, dialog boxes and the like help you to understand what each choice/selection/radio button does. Even if you're new to computers, the authors walk you through the information step by step. The only thing I do not like about this book is the weight. But then again, if it did not have as much info, it would not be "In Depth". I'm willing to bet that whatever time you spend reading this will be saved with fewer calls to IT or searching on line. Since I am not a computer expert and am new to Windows 10, I anticipate referring to this and learning a lot - I already have!

L Strickland This book covers the information that most users of Windows 10 are going to need. It is probably of most use to those with beginning to intermediate understanding of the older Windows operating systems. Professional systems and network administrators would benefit from it to help shorten their familiarization time, but they are probably going to need some more advanced information that this book sets out to provide. As would be expected, it starts with the installation or upgrading to Win 10 and proceeds from there to cover a lot of information that most users will only occasionally need. Between the detailed table of contents and the index, you should be able to find just about anything you need. The most helpful chapters to me were Chapter 3 "Your first hour with Windows 10" and Chapter 4 "Using the Windows 10 Interface". My computer came pre-installed with Windows 10, so what I primarily needed was an explanation of the new features and changes from previous versions. Chapter 3 did a great job of giving me the familiarity I needed. I had already figured out a lot about it by simply applying what I already know about previous versions of Windows. I got it set up and connected to a wireless network and the Internet and installed a couple of printers and a couple of programs before I got the book, but even then, the book helped me to fill in some gaps.An interesting addition to Win 10 is the new Edge web browser. Internet Explorer is still around, but apparently Microsoft want to phase it out and is pushing users toward the new edge architecture. Unfortunately Edge is not as powerful as Windows Explorer, so most users are probably going to stick with it for now.The book even has sections on running other operating systems as virtual machines and on using the Remote Desktop feature to control other computers from your Windows 10 machine or vice-versa. I am using the information on Virtualization to set up the old XP system that this computer replaced as a virtual machine running within Windows 10. This way, all the old programs and data from the old machine will still be available. One very nice thing about this book is that the author doesn't fierce you to still with Windows solutions and software. Instead he recommends third party software and utilities that will helpful to the user. All in all, this book was expertly what I needed to help me get the most out of my new Windows 10 machine.

Provides plenty of information on the new Windows 10 software including tips and tricks to make Windows 10 run better by turn on certain features and shutting off other features you don't use or need. Explains registration editing, script features plus other sections that deals with security, WiFi setup and setting up a personal network. All info shown can apply to settings up Windows PC's, tablets and phone running the older Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or the new Windows 10.

(An Unofficial Minecraft Book) from The Mining ManiacsKindle Edition Free download, List price $2.97Publication Date: March 27, 2015 | Age Level: 7 – 1812 year old Arak has the weight of the world on his shoulders and nothing goes right for him. Day after day his troubles multiply and still he keeps on trying. He get his just rewards in the end, but what are they? Read and find out!!Not an age appropriate category, far to large ages 7 to 12 or 14 maybe, but that’s it.Grab it while it’s free, I don’t think it’s worth the price being asked, but it’s not a bad read, just far too short to merit the price.5 stars recommend grabbing it while it’s free!!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Amazing! By Astro Cat So this is sort of what I figured the storyline was in Arak's crazy imagination...Jo gets eaten by zombies, his remains fall into a bottomless pit, and at the bottom of the bottomless pit, his remains get blown up by TNT and shot upward, where he lands in a lake, and Mr mover also falls into that lake, and Jo's remains reattach and he is... HEROJO! (It's like herobrine) and he makes traps for creepers around the perimeter of the village to "help" and Arak leaves the village, then Zack throws a stick at herojo, who runs away crying, then Arak returns, borrows a hammer from Mr anvil the blacksmith, and repeatedly whacks Joe in the face with it, and due to the whacking, herojo becomes normal jo once more, and Arak whacks Joe with a shovel! Pow! Then creepers come and, umm... "take Joe away"... and when he respawned, he had a "big, stupid, red nose", also, he was a "big, fat, stinky liar"...Wait, he was already that...(Smirk)Then Mr timmytots is trampled by pigs, jo turns into a pig, but he is nasty, so no one wants to eat his bacon, and he drinks a potion to change twice more into normal jo, and then... well... let's just say, Ron shows up...POW! WHAM! KAPOW! BAM! POWOWOW!(I guess this is a comic book now...)

More abuse of women by a man pretending to be a woman By EC Jones Robin Roseau is really Joe P Larson, a man that writes about violence against women while pretending to be a woman that approves of it. The reason Michaella is a bully when Zoe is the main character and a willing victim when she is the main character is Joe always wants the main character to be put in her place and humiliated by women she loves. Michaella lets her mate and sister-in-law cheat her in contests over and over eagain and swears it will be the last time before accepting it again like a classic abuse victim. In every single book in this series the main character rebels against the domination of others before admitting int he end it is for her own good and done out of love, no matter how badly they hurt her. Focusing on this episode, nothing is resolved, no plots are furthered, and nothing lasting is accomplished. This book exists only to describe more instances of a strong willed woman giving up her pride and accepting abuse.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A new beginning? By Robert M I really enjoyed this book and the introduction of some important New characters, especially the silver Fox from Russia.Lara, Elizabeth and Michaela's relationship continued to evolve and become more complex, this book really delved into the complexities of what happens after the initial thralls of love go away and relationships become more intense, complicated and mature. The ending of course helped close only a small chapter, but I can't wait for the next part of this continuing journey.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Fox Fate makes no sense based on the number of the books when release. By Amazon Customer Why would Fox Fate have the book short Huntimg Pups at the beginning when all that came before Zoe entered into the picture. Yet you mention Zoe in the intro of this book. It's like your digressing, it's very confusing, because if that's the case why write the short when it's in one of your books. Then again why not just make the books about Zoe separate, why put them as books 8, 9 & 10.. Again it's confusing the pups are what 7 or 8 by the tenth book, then you start Fox Fate with the pups being 2 years old... I'm not to sure I even want to read this book now. I'm very lost... And your editing in this book really need some work, your using the wrong names at times.. That in its self is also very confusing to the story line. An I read a lot, one to two books a day depending on how long they are or what I having going on for my day... I know these are only ebooks, but if you ever plan to publish these in paperback form. You should really work on your editing better. Other than that I'm enjoying your books very much. I've read some of your other stories, an some of those need some work as well. One the story was way to short an there was really no bases to the story....

WHAT’S A WOMAN GONNA DO ... When American Indians from the future move their entire island nation to our Earth, Ell Harmon makes the first alien contact. The take-charge Seattle biologist has yearned to find intelligent aliens, and her dream comes true when she meets Prince Tro Eaglesbrood. Ell and Tro are quarantined together, while the fearful world wonders whether the newcomers are friends or foes, neighbors or conquerors. Ell knows Tro is honorable and Kwadrans are peaceful … but how to convince the world? ... WHEN SHE'S QUARANTINED WITH AN OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD ALIEN? They broadcast a show, which she flippantly titles Alien Contact for Idiots. Every day, Ell interviews Tro and tries to humanize Kwadrans. The show is wildly popular, and the romance developing on-screen between Ell and Tro reassures the world. If a smart woman like her can fall for a Kwadran, they must not be monsters, right? But Tro’s duty lies with his people, and soon that duty threatens not only the show but Ell’s heart -- as well as the peace and survival of our world.

Alien Contact for Idiots, by Edward Hoornaert

About the Author Edward Hoornaert (a.k.a. Mr. Valentine) is not only a writer, he's a certifiable Harlequin Hero; he inspired N.Y. Times bestselling author Vicki Lewis Thompson to write her favorite Harlequin Desire, "Mr. Valentine", which was dedicated to him. In the past, he wrote contemporary romances for Silhouette Books, but these days he writes science fiction adventures--usually with elements of romance. In addition to novelist, he has been a teacher, technical writer, salesman, waiter, janitor, and symphonic oboist. After having 30 different addresses in his first 28 years, his rolling stone slowed in the mountains of British Columbia and stopped in Tucson, Arizona. His high school sweetheart has been his wife for more years than he has fingers and toes to count. Ed and Judi have four children, a dog, and a cat which (unlike some famous authors' cats) is of absolutely no help in writing.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I literally laughed out loud... By TeeKay This book started out slow, but stick with it; it is a long story--340 pages. It took some time for the author to establish the world and the characters. It's written in multiple points of view, and I think that took extra time for me to get everyone straight. At about the midway point, the story really took off and I didn't want to put the book down. I literally laughed out loud. Ell and Tro are a fun couple to read. The author is deft at crafting humor in his words. The premise was interesting. And it was fascinating how Hoornaert wove Native American culture with "alien" culture. Very creative storytelling. And I didn't realize until I'd finished ACfI that there is a sequel. I will soon be reading that!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The characters are worth getting to know! By Author Elizabeth Alsobrooks, Book Bling blog reviews Ell Harmon is a Seattle biologist who has always wanted to find intelligent life from another planet, but she may have gotten more than she hoped for when she meets Prince Tro Eaglesbrood, an American Indian from the future who must move his entire island nation to earth.Ed Hoornaert demonstrates his ability to incorporate humor into his writing in a unique and entertaining way in this sci-fi romance. The scientist and alien are quarantined together while the terrified world waits to see if the aliens are friend or foe, so Ell broadcasts a show which she titles Alien Contact for Idiots. She interiews Tro and tries to humanize Kwadrans (the alien American Indians). And of course one can't fail to see the twisted humor of calling American Indians from the future aliens on planet earth.Their budding romance reassures the human populace, but the Prince's loyalty lies with his own people. Nothing ever runs as smoothly as one hopes. There's a lot going on, so take your time settling in or you may miss some important details in the initial world-building. The characters are worth getting to know.Book Bling gives this a solid 4 Stars!

By Natural_bri I am always a sucker for a great science fiction book, and thoroughly enjoy when it is a well-written sci-fi romance. This book ticks both of those boxes and is also an entirely unique read. I have not read anything with a storyline even remotely similar to this and the way the author carried our the story, was also very different. Sometimes, this can result in disaster, as it is too out there, but this book is one of the few that has stepped well outside the envelope and pulled it off very well.I found the unique nature of the book very intriguing, and this was the initial pull for me to read the book. I was drawn in by the blurb and very attracted to the cover. After the first few chapters introduced us to the story, giving us a lot of background detail and base, we jumped in to an exciting and very entertaining story.I found that the author took the time to really create a foundation for the book, in the first chapters, which ultimately meant that the book flowed a lot better throughout. He also gave us very detailed characters and surrounding world. For me, this is one of the most important factors for enjoying a book. I liked that the characters had personality and each was able to interact and grow from their meeting one another. I also liked the depth and attention that was paid to the world. It meant that it was easy to jump in a be part of the story, but it also meant that the story flowed by and seemed to fit perfectly with the surroundings.I found the pace to be very good indeed. It was swift enough to really keep me entertained, but more importantly, it slowed slightly, now and again, to allow for that all important detail to be added.Overall, this was a really good read. I am looking forward to reading more from this author and highly recommend this book to sci-fi, romance lovers.**Ireceived this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Seiran Rou's life is complicated—he's the only male in the world allowed to take magic classes in a female-dominant society, his vampire boyfriend, Gabe, is hinting that he wants more, and his mother is demanding a grandchild. But when a co-worker turns up dead on his doorstep, Seiran realizes his problems are only beginning. With the police dogging his steps, a stalker-like bartender watching his every move, and a magic groupie following him around, Seiran is finding it hard to hide his power—a power that if revealed could get him killed. The Dominion, the ruling body of elemental magic, seems to have started a deadly game to control the rare magic he possesses. Someone is pulling strings, murdering witches, and gathering power. When Seiran finds himself next on the hit list, he doesn’t know whether to run and hide or prove himself to be the powerful witch he is. If he stands up and fights, he’ll have to decide what is more important—hiding his power or protecting the ones he loves.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A thrilling urban fantasy, new adult story By Becky C Lissa Kasey is a fabulous world builder, a talent that is obvious in this book. Dominion is a world inhabited by vampires, lycanthropes, humans, and witches. It is mainly the witches, or one in particular, that is the focus of Inheritance, although one of the vampires plays a lead role, also.Sieran Rou is a male witch in a matriarchal witch society, and is the only male witch in his courses at a university that teaches magic. We learn that there are many kinds of witches and Sieran is an earth witch. There are also different levels of witches, and Sieran is a very powerful one. However, he has been bullied by the female witches and his mother all his life. Witches who do wrong can be imprisoned or, in worst cases, burned at the stake, and Sieran fears that is the fate his mother wants for him.Sieran is watched out for by Jaime, and we don't learn exactly why until late in the book. His friend-with-benefits is Gabe, a very old vampire, but Gabe is in love with Sieran and wants much more of a relationship with him. What Sieran's mother really wants from Sieran is a baby, a female witch baby, to be specific, that she can raise in the way she intended Sieran to be raised. Sieran, being gay, has no interest in a wife or baby. The book is full of mystery (it's a story of witches, after all!), suspense, love, hot sex, and a world where witches are tested and categorized according to their powers. It is quite exciting and I enjoyed every minute of reading this book. There is a villain reveal that is a surprise and it is no sure thing that this person will not defeat Sieran and become an anti-hero.The thrilling last few chapters left me excited for further Dominion stories. This is not my first Lissa Kasey story but certainly not my last! Highly recommended.

Book Review by Brandilyn By PrismBookAlliance 4.5 of 5 StarsFor original review see The Prism Book Alliance Blog onlineI first read Inheritance by Lissa Kasey almost two years ago. To say I was underwhelmed at the time would be an understatement. The thing is, at the time, I wasn’t very into reading paranormal at all. None of it really “did it” for me.Here is what I had to say two years ago:Meh. Okay, I guess that isn’t long enough of a review, huh? This world was just a bit too much for me. I am not sure of “Too much” what, but just too much. I mean there were witches and vamps and lycan and female dominated society and and and… not to mention that it very obviously was sitting itself up for a series because it threw in details that never got resolved or touched again. But the thing is… tastes change. This is now my third time to read Inheritance. The first two were the old DSP version. This time I read the re-release. Each time I fall a little more in love with this world. With the re-release came some new content a some additional editing. I think the new prologue gives us some more appreciation for the predicament in Sei finds himself. It also gives us an appreciation for his relationship with Gabe. The prologue is the former Dominion short, Friction (or at least taken from it). It is a necessary part of Sei’s back story. I can’t pinpoint what else is different in this version because it has been so long since I last read the title.Sei is a powerful male witch in a female dominated society. Add to that the fact that he is femme, gay, and a lynx shifter, he finds more safety and security in the world of vampires than he does with his own kind. Well, he doesn’t really know any of his “kind” as male witches are allowed to be. The only reason he gets an exception is that his mother is a powerful and well-connected witch in her own right. There is a lot to assimilate in the Dominion world. There are witches who shift and those that don’t. There are vampires and lycan. There are levels of power that determine your standing in the magical world. There are those that want to overthrow the current regime and those that just want power however they can get it. Oh and there is Gabe, Sei’s vampire lover and his only true champion. All this packed in about 170 pages, give or take. But Inheritance is only the first in a series. As the series progresses, we get to learn more about Sei, of course, but also more about this fabulous world of Kasey’s creation.I have read the previous versions of the rest of the series and am tempted to go read them again, but I am making myself wait for the re-releases…

Gabe will do anything for Sei and does his best to protect him, which is hard to do when Sei keeps running from even a hint of commitment. This is a wonderful fantasy story and while the story has been extended the main story is still the same. Seiran is the only male witch allowed to take magic classes at college; male witches are looked down upon by the female witches so Seiran’s college life is hard. His kinda boyfriend Vampire Gabe would like more commitment but Sei runs scared. Connecting with a brother he never knew he had and a group of male witches who want recognition and admittance into the magic classes Seiran finds himself struggling with what to do, especially when his mother is pressuring him for a child. This book was cool, I loved the struggle that Seiran had with himself about Gabe and how he really feels about him, I also loved the fact that although Gabe loves Sei he doesn’t crowd him and lets him come round on his own rather than force the issue, no matter how long it takes. The characters are cool and we get to know them quite well, the way some of them are wrote into the story is brilliant and their parts were quite surprising, believe me no way did I think the baddie was who they turned out to be and the relationship that Seiran had with his mother made me shudder. There are a couple of loose ends but I don’t think we have seen the last of Gabe and Seiran.A definite must read for those who love magic, vampires, paranormal, mystery and danger, hot men, ok I could go on for a while, but what I do say is that this is an incredible paranormal romance.
