By Smokenator "Her scent hit him first, wrapping around him like the coils of a seductive serpent ready to lead him into sin."In the smut shorts of Master of the City we met Alpha Nick Trevais. In Mistress of the City we met Isla, Captain of the Guard... (Plot Queen Mina strikes again)Isla waiting on the Delegate was being accosted by a youngster she saw growing up...yeah gross much? Nick steps in and maneuvers his way into Isla being his date for the ball. Nick has been an aid to the tentative alliance between the two cities because he defended Reena's cousin that went over their cities borders, usual punishment:DEATH. Nick surprises Isla's Mistress by sharing information about an enemy their city has, warning them. Uncommon behavior that intrigued Isla even more, other than wanting Nick to herself.Isla was won over by Nick's behavior, the way he made her feel, the way he spoke to her... *sigh, me too* things get pretty hot and heavy once they on the ballroom floor.Yup, people.. Clothes get ripped off and hot and heavy .... And this is why you need to get CHOSEN BY THE ALPHA!!

What a awesome little story By Daria “Its not what you've got, It’s what you do with itIt was on fire just about as it started, in one sitting the heat will blaze you through meeting Nick and Isla. A Captain of the guard and a Alpha from another city, a match that cant be anything other that a slick heated roll in the sheets.Nick comes to greet the Mistress of the City to warn her of a possible threat, ah...but his focused attention is on the smoking hot she wolf Isla. Isla knows men hell she is around them all the time and as Captain of the guard she has to stay on top of the game, that in itself doesn’t leave her a lot of time to play. Then the visiting alpha claims her attention, with not only showing her that he knows what a women wants, but he also isn’t pushing against her position. What a awesome little story, characters I just loved both Isla and Nick they both fit the story. Mina’s talent for writing the hot scenes... Could possible over heat your tablet. (smiles) Enjoy

Harry Dresden, Chicago's only practicing professional wizard, should be happy that business is pretty good for a change. But he also knows that whenever things are going good, the only way left for them to go is bad. Way bad. Recent examples: A duel with the lethal champion of the Red Court, who must kill Harry to end the war between vampires and wizards...Hit men using Harry for target practice...The missing Shroud of Turin - and the possible involvement of Chicago's most feared mob boss...A handless and headless corpse the Chicago police need identified...Not to mention the return of Harry's ex-girlfriend Susan, who's still struggling with her semi-vampiric nature - and who seems to have a new man in her life. Some days, it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. No matter how much you're charging.

Shroud Thinking By Marc Ruby™ Shroud RemarksI only recently noticed that I had missed the release of the latest in Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series, and quickly moved to correct my error. Dresden is a wizard after my own heart - trying to make a living in modern Chicago, and a bit too honest to do anything but scrape by. Armed with a wand, a few special charms, and a flower covered ancient Volkswagen Beetle, Harry is always ready to take on a task completely beyond his capabilities. This time he has his choice of menaces. Having triggered a war between the Wizard's Council and the vampire's Red Court in the last volume, Harry continues to be in desperate straights. Duke Ortega of the Red Court has proposed a way to end the war - a duel between him and Harry. Needless to say, Ortega has no intention of losing, and Harry will need more that a few incantations to survive.More of a surprise, though, is the appearance of Father Vincent, a papal agent with an assignment for Harry. The Shroud of Turin has vanished - stolen and brought to the USA and, while they have more than an inkling of who the thief was, it will take Harry to track it down. The bad news is that the Shroud attracts all kind of attention, from everyone from mafia bosses to fallen angels. And they all want Harry's skin. The good news is that Harry will get paid for the work, and the rent is due. Or he will die in the attempt and won't need to pay rent ever again. There is more. Harry's ex-girlfriend and recovering vampire snack Susan is back in town, the police are looking for a murderer who collects parts, and the Knights of the Cross are there to lend a hand. Total madness wherever you look, and Harry is in the middle of it, bad attitude and all.Butcher has created a series that is a refreshing change from the usual pseudo-medieval magick tale. Harry is up to date, listens to good music, and, when he can afford it, even dresses fairly well. Or he would if people would stop stealing his clothes. He alternates between wisecracks, a love for money, and a set of ethics that keep getting in his way. And you can't help but like a guy whose closest friend lives in a skull.Even though there is continuity between the five books in the series, each still can stand on its own. It you like fantasy but are tired of the usual enchanted princess genre try a dip in the Dresden files. You won't be disappointed.

By Marcus Bailey I consider myself quite lucky, in retrospect, that there were already five books available in this series by the time I started reading. I cannot remember the last time I devoured a series as quickly or with as much enjoyment as this one. Butcher has really done an exceptional job in creating this world and these characters. He started off with one of the best first novels I've read and has only gotten better with each installment. I have literally laughed, cried, and cheered while reading these books, and that is something that is not entirely common with me (though I'll admit to being a sap and something of an easy target for the tearjerk effect). One reader commented that this installment left many things unresolved, and this is true to a point. Actually, the majority of the major plot points were dealt with quite nicely (far more neatly, in fact, than any writer so new to the craft has any right being able to accomplish). There were a number of threads left dangling, but only insomuch as was necessary in order to bring these elements into play in later episodes. Also, the reviewer who noted that there was a statement about the Jews being responsible for Jesus' death was not entirely accurate. There is a referrence to Barrabus who was freed by the Jews despite the fact that Pilate had wanted them to free Jesus. If Butcher deserves to have all but one star stripped from a rating for accurately reporting an event that was already written of in a much more widely published book (I don't have to explain that one, do I?), then we have a problem here. This was in no way intended as anti-semitic, and I thought it was actually rather neatly in keeping with the rest of the storyline. By the way, just for the record I am not Jewish but I am not Christian either. Frankly I think both sides of this particular debate ("The Jews killed Jesus!", "No they didn't!") are rather silly. But that's just me...Anyway, as for this book I was more than pleased. Somehow Butcher keeps making each one better than the last, and I'm keen to see if he can keep up the trend. Only problem is that I've run out of books and now have to wait for him to publish the next one. Either I'll have to slow down my reading speed, or else Jim has to start typing a hell of a lot faster. In the meanwhile, get Peter Jackson on the phone. I've got an idea for his next big movie series... :)

At the end of the fourth book, "Summer Knight," Harry's world was a tad askew. His girlfriend was half-way to becoming a vampire, he'd started a war between the Wizard's Council and one of the Vampire clans. Also, he'd been on the "list" with a Chicago mob-boss for quite a while now. He did, however, manage to play some fun D&D with a group of werewolf vigilantes. Hey, you take your victories where you can.So, when a priest asks him to recover a stolen relic (sort of like a big white cloth, taken from Turin... uh... yeah, that one), and demons start popping up everywhere trying to pop Harry off, things are tense. Toss in a suprise visit from his Girlfriend, three holy knights with very holy swords (one of whom has a very bitter wife), and you see why Harry's day is just about as bad as any he's had.The mystery in this one threw me for a loop (I thought I had it right, only to learn I had it way wrong), and the tone of the book was dark and fun in equal measure. The pithy one-liners are always well done, and there's enough insider-geek references to make you swell with geeky pride.Enjoy it, enjoy 'em all, and if you've never read any of Butcher's work, you owe yourself a copy of 'Storm Front,' a hot cuppa tea, and some quiet time you'll soon fill with laughter.'Nathan

A civil war on Venus has driven the Venusians to Earth for refuge, where they must adapt to their new surroundings and adopt the planet as their own. The Kyprian council has selected El, a sapient and earth dweller, to be the other half of an interspecies union. But contact between the species may very well mean a fiery death to both, and El is terrified.  Onine, a Venusian leader, doesn't know El, but from the moment he sees her he knows he has to save her. Sapients are slaves, soiled and dirty beings that inhabit the earth, and no Venusian would ever demean itself to take the crude form of the sapient. But the only way for Onine to save El is to forgo his beauty and fire, and become clay like her. A simple task if it were as simple as his giving up his form. Unfortunately, she is the one who must undergo a transformation, one for which she already has.  A creation myth inspired by Ovid's "Metamorphoses," El and Onine pursue a love more resilient than the bodies they've been given and the universe in which they exist.

El and Onine, by K. P. Ambroziak

Review Being a fantasy story, [Ambroziak's] introduced other races and worlds.  It's done so effortlessly and flawlessly.  Everything is put into the story line without you having to sit and read a bunch of back story or facts or even a 'new word' dictionary.  The characters pull everything in for you so you just transition right in.  The races are different than any I have seen, but not different enough that I was uncomfortable with them.  Also, the way that she tells the story definitely gives you that glossy, semi-blurry fantasy feel.  It's not a story of what is as we see it, but a story of what may be. Minding Spot If you enjoy elegant, smart writing, vivid fantasy worlds, and everlasting love that stretches beyond the imagination, you should add El and Onine, by K.P. Ambroziak to your TBR list, (or even better, your book shelf or Kindle!) A Well Read Woman K.P. Ambroziak writes elegantly, poetically and imaginatively, and has a fascinating story to tell that readers shouldn't miss. El and Onine is a rare excellent read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I predict it is going to be a huge hit with fans of the genre. Reader's Favorite

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. great greenhouses, and luxuriant baths of molten gold By Stephen Kozeniewski K.P. Ambroziak is unique among authors I'm familiar with. Traditionally even the most obtuse fantastical works will ease a reader into an unfamiliar world, gradually revealing facts as they become necessary - think of Tolkien's hobbits leaving the pastoral Shire or Martin focusing almost exclusively on the Stark family before expanding to the more complicated characters, politically speaking. Ambroziak eschews (or perhaps is incapable) of such worldbuilding. Her worlds seem to pop into existence fully formed, with deep wells of politics, biology, and tradition that the characters are all well aware of, and the reader simply intuits as time goes by (or doesn't.)It's a dizzying talent, one I'm not sure I would even know how to go about replicating. Perhaps I shouldn't even worry about it, because it's what makes Ambroziak's work so unusual. With EL AND ONINE, she revisits some of the themes touched upon in A PERPETUAL MIMICRY, about spiritual beings taking on flesh and the seemingly casual cruelty that such hybridization breeds.Rather than the angels of A PERPETUAL MIMICRY, the transcendent creatures of EL AND ONINE are Venusians, often described as beings of fire. (Who else could survive on the surface of Venus, after all?) A civil war amongst the Venusians has led to one of their religious cults taking a sort of a spiritual Stargate to a prehistoric (or perhaps simply ahistoric) Earth. The price of travel to Earth is taking on crude flesh, one that must be constantly fed by the sun, fire, great greenhouses, and luxuriant baths of molten gold. It all seems a terrible burden to the transformed Venusians. Not to worry, though, because the Venusians have slaves to take out all of their frustrations upon! The Sapients, implied to be a pre-human race of "clay" are cheerfully enslaved by their Venusian masters. Some of the early chapters of EL AND ONINE got me really thinking about slavery. The Sapients hate themselves, despise their own visages, and consider the Venusians to be insanely beautiful - basically for no other reason than that they're constantly told how beautiful their masters are and how hideous they are. The book wasn't especially overtly political, but it definitely got me thinking about some real world parallels - why some people, entire groups of people, even, have to do all manner of nonsense to live up to a standard that was essentially set by slave-owning jerks centuries ago. But I digress without really digressing. As I said, EL AND ONINE deals with a lot of the same issues as A PERPETUAL MIMICRY. Ambroziak seems drawn to the concerns of non-material beings in a way I haven't really seen addressed since I read Vonnegut in high school. I've kind of rambled on here a bit. This is all very heady stuff. Ambroziak is deeply intellectual in a way I haven't read in a long time either - I gather her stories would all change in light of a vast classical education - but also easily accessible. There aren't fifty cent words thrown in to remind you how smart she is. It's just goat farmers farming goats, and angelic beings trying to explain the ineffable to goat farmers with words goat farmers would use.I don't really know where I'm going with all this. Perhaps there's just a lot to digest. I recommend you check out EL AND ONINE and all of Ambroziak's work before the secret gets out.

It is a creation story, an epic saga, a paranormal fiction, a fantasy, and a romance. I took my time putting this review together because I wanted to do justice to the deft way Ambroziak deals with the complexities of a theme which appears in many forms throughout our human history. Those of us familiar with Ovid’s Metamorphoses will recognize the origins or theme behind the masterful way in which Ambroziak makes this recurring subject in literature new and fresh. As someone not familiar with Ovid’s version I found that my lack did not deter me from enjoying this one.Even those not accustomed to creation myths will find this book a joy to read. Yet, its complexity will challenge the reader – in a good way. Ambroziak creates characters that reveal themselves slowly and patiently. She does so with such a clever hand that we are drawn to them, wonder about them, want to know them better from the outset, even become impatient to solve the riddle of who they are in their depths. While this is especially true of both El and Onine, our two main characters, even some secondary characters, such as the Venutian goddess, do not appear full-blown, but become known to us bit by bit.The worlds Ambroziak builds, both on Venus and on Earth, are beautifully and completely wrought. The alien cultures are well developed, including the religious/mythological aspects which drive the theme forward. I marvel at the visual images that invoke both worlds. Ambroziak uses description with just enough detail that we see a full picture, but wastes no extraneous words to get us there. The story does not follow a chronological line, but moves back and forth in time. This allows the reader to learn why things unfold as they do without giving away too much too early. Some characters are given two names, depending on what part of the story they live in at the moment, or which other characters they interact with. This keeps the reader guessing, at least for a time, as to who is who. We have our suspicions, but no certain confirmations until well into the book. It is a clever device that keeps us on our toes, asking questions, wanting to see how it all ties together. While I loved all of these aspects, the underlying romance is what drew me in the most. Both El and Onine must suffer greatly before they can fulfil their destinies, El without knowing her role, Onine with full understanding. Yet neither are what they seem, at first, to the reader, or to each other. This exceptional book will keep readers engaged from page one to its conclusion. I recommend it for enthusiasts of all the genres mentioned.

Complexity, beauty, challenge, and a remarkable wholeness By Stillphoenix I’m not sure how to state this both simply and without alienating potential readers, but if you’re not interested in a story that is going to stretch your mind and make you think, research, ponder, compare, and quite possibly struggle with your own beliefs, don’t bother with this one. In fact, don’t bother with anything Ambroziak writes. What you will find with El and Onine, and with her other works as well, is complexity, beauty, challenge, and a remarkable wholeness.El and Onine is a creation myth, and a love story. It takes inspiration from Ovid’s, Metamorphoses, and if that doesn’t tell you a little something about what you’re walking into, it should. In the same way that Deborah Harkness’s All Souls Trilogy is suffused with depth and detail that only a professor of history could write, so is El and Onine enmeshed in the mythos of western literature that only a professor of comparative literature could weave. When you begin the story, you begin in the center. Ambroziak doesn’t build worlds as much as she invites you into a world fully built, and has ultimate faith that you, the reader, will discover all you need to know to inhabit this world along with the characters and live out their adventure. I personally, being a fan of creation stories (who doesn’t love a cosmic turtle or a spider woman?) thought I was in a good place to run with the story, and then boom. Suddenly we’re dealing with concepts like divine rape and the -- really truly physical as well as spiritually -- transcendent nature of love and absolute existence.I scurried back to Ovid. I refreshed myself on the nature of traditional western gods (they were jerks) and the nature of epic poets (they were sneakily political) and the nature of spiritual transcendence (it quite often involves immolation – and that’s just the beginning of the adventure). I reminded myself that although my personal worldview primarily focuses on worldly regeneration and psychological rebirth, there is sometimes more to the story for those who venture further into the realm of the spirit. And truly, Ambroziak does leave that element of the story a beautiful mystery. We’re simply not privy to the whole story, nor are the characters –“’It is unfolding as it should.’She had no guarantees. We all walked blindly toward the new world.”A note as to the characters. I find it fascinating that Ambroziak’s voice often finds its most eloquence with her male characters. You would be wise to pay special attention to Onine, as you read, for while El is the goddess, the creator, the mother of the new race that is to become, it’s Onine who truly gets stuck with the nearly Sisyphean task of making it all happen. He goes through all the preparatory physical agony, all the politicking, the plotting, he carries the seed, plants it, protects it from all who would betray them, who would tear it out and plant theirs in its place, and he’s the one who, motivated by utter love and devotion, gives his all in nearly anonymous fireworks to ensure the plan works and the old can become transformed into something entirely new. El does more than her fair share of the planning and the suffering, but Onine gets to be aware of it all, he gets to drive, while for quite a while, El gets to snooze in the back seat. But in the end, they are a team. The two of them, their intent, their action, and their belief are the Omega and the Alpha of this world. Their love transcends the suffering, and their intent works seamlessly hand in hand to create wholly new, unknown, unexplored, untested, brilliantly unique, (a little closer to divine?) life from the ashes of horror and destruction. And one further note, the goat gets a happy ending. I really cannot ask for anything more.

The Path to Appiness! After two years of developing iOS apps, I’d begun to notice that a major challenge for indie developers involved something so basic, yet so very often overlooked - smart marketing. Without it, their apps end up dying a slow death in the App Store, and most of them felt powerless to do anything about it. As someone who knew the challenges and obstacles each and every mobile app developer faced, I wanted to do something to change this way or thinking. Inspired by my drive to help others in their quest for total success, I decided to write out my story, bit by bit, as well as detailed step-by-step instructions for app marketing tactics that have helped me turn duds into profitable apps. Back in September of 2011, I started mapping out my first app, Mustache Bash. I had no programming experience. Photoshop and Illustrator make me feel like I’m lost in the woods. I am NOT a designer. But I was stubborn enough to keep moving forward, so I hired a designer, and hired a programmer, and scraped together enough cash to start the project. Yes, you read that correctly: I didn’t even have enough money to finish the app at first! Fast forward to June 2012. I had finished my first app, Mustache Bash, and it had made over $1200 in its first month. I was hoping for more, but was still very excited. I mean, I’d published a friggin’ app. Me. This guy. The guy with no real experience to speak of at the time! So after borrowing $3000 from friends, I made four more apps. That's when the fun stopped... Uh-oh. I’d spent over $8000 to make five apps, I was in debt (and to friends!) My apps seemed dead in the water and I was confused and unsure of the next step forward to remedy my dilemma. This uncomfortable situation forced me to start asking some tough questions: • Why aren’t my apps generating more revenue? • What if I’ve wasted all this time and effort creating worthless apps? • How are some indie developers able to make so much money with apps? • Rather than give up, I decided to start experimenting with small, inexpensive marketing tactics. For example, I changed my app titles and keywords. I added localizations. I released small app updates. I switched out ad SDKs, and even changed the colors of certain buttons. Slowly but surely, my apps began generating more revenue! The effort was paying off! My app business stabilized, and one by one, my apps went from the red to the black. Phew! That’s when I decided to do something to help iOS developers with what I found to be the biggest problem: Marketing! And not just marketing, but Smart Marketing! Though on some days I was only able to spend fifteen minutes working on the guide, 180 days worth of work adds up. I wrote out my true tale of appiness, as well as step-by-step instructions for the app marketing tactics that have helped me turn duds into profitable apps. Appiness: An Unusual Guide to Doubling Downloads, Minting Money & Finding Freedom is finally finished. It is an unusual step-by-step, how-to marketing guide available for iOS developers because it gets into brass tacks and tells you now to do stuff. I wrote the guide that I really needed when I first got started. App developers need to start with a solid foundation—that is, high-quality apps—and then execute a smart marketing plan to help their apps gain visibility, get more downloads, and start making money with apps. Appiness can help you do just that! All you have to do is follow the guide, have the desire to succeed, do the work and refuse to accept failure!

For those who are reluctant to install Windows 10, (especially if you are using Windows 7), it is an excellent help to ease the transition to Windows 10 and it tells you how to make some basic adjustments to Windows 10 to personalize it a bit more to your liking.

In this installment of the Colorado Shifters series we're introduced to the pride, and learn the social consequences of being an un-mated, out of shape cougar in your forties. Ari is constantly having to dodge thinly veiled criticisms from the pride, attend celebrations when others find their mates, and listen to her friends gush about their children. She fears she'll be an unmarried outcast forever until she meets Dylan, the werelion who will change her life forever. Ari's struggle is one I can completely relate to. Now if I could only find the right personal trainer ;).I was SO excited about Dylan, since he's the twin brother of my favorite werelion from book one, Leo. Dylan is tall, rugged, and sexy as hell. He's younger than Ari, but has a maturity about him, and a compassion that makes him oh so loveable. The guy on the cover absolutely captures my vision of Dylan.I thought this was a good addition to the Colorado series because it challenges the social norms of beauty and tradition. In her own way, Ari is the feminist of her pride. I love that. She is independent, self-reliant, and strong. But when she finds the man she loves, she's able to give her heart. We need more heroines like this. :)

Kristen has such a clean writing style, the story unfolds seamlessly, and before you know it you're almost done. This story line was great and I can't wait for the next one. I love the shifters of Woodland Park!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great read, unexpected issues. By CrftySAHM I read a lot...I mean A LOT...of shifter themed books. All animals, hard cases and soft cases. I have to say I really enjoyed the couple of twist or hiccups that this couple have in building their relationship. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone, and whether it was intended or not by the author, I found the fact that the cougar was an older woman to be endearing. I was caught by the story from the first few pages and couldn't put the book down until I was finished. It is a true happy ending, with just enough drama and conflicts to keep the story going great. I would recommend it to any reader that is looking for a sweet shifter read. I especially appreciate that Arielle has to face the same problems that so many women do today. Her age, wanting to have children, and wanting to be loved for who she is. And, the fact that even though Dylan loves her as she is, he wants her to better embrace who she is, the whole package, and that in itself makes Arielle want to be the best person she can not only for the man she loves, but for her own self worth as well.

Why do humans exist? What is our purpose in life? How did we get here? William Natas, a Harvard scientist and professor, has been on a mission to change the world by answering these questions. After years of research and labor, he has finally solved the most complex theory in science, and with it, believes he can unveil many of the mysteries of life, including the answers to these questions. He thinks the answers have nothing to do with religion, and, therefore, sets out to eliminate the institution from the planet.  After he consults his colleague John Mandeus about his discovery, however, John is not excited about it. He fears what the discovery means for the world and what Natas intends to do with this knowledge and power. He argues that religion is necessary for the survival of morality and happiness in the world. He insists that, without it, society would fall apart.  Nonetheless, John's warning is not heeded. Natas releases his theory to the world, and all of the leading scientists back his theory, except for John Mandeus. As a result, John becomes the laughing stock of the scientific world and seemingly loses the battle of convincing society that it needs religion to sustain itself. Ten years pass, and the future is dark. John Mandeus was right about society, but so was Natas. The progress of technology and science has exponentially increased; however, morality and religion have almost ceased to exist in the future world. In the middle of this future chaos is Joseph Mandeus, son of John, who embraces this new world and thrives in it. Working as a computer programmer by day and thief by night, he has made quite a living for himself in the lively city of Miami. Until one day, a robbery goes awry, and Joseph's life is left in disarray. After reconnecting with an old friend, Julianna Danielson, Joseph is convinced to move back to live near his family in Indiana. In his search for reason in this future world, he slowly starts to understand why his father fought for his beliefs. Happiness still eludes him, but his life is getting back on track. That is, until he begins to fight back against the regime of William Natas, his father's old nemesis, to resurrect the war for his father's beliefs. When a presidential backing and limitless wealth make William Natas one of the most powerful men in the future world, Joseph finds himself in the middle of a power struggle that could cost him his life.

From the Back Cover When he was younger, Joseph Mandeus never understood why his father, one of the leading scientists in the world, fought so hard for religion, an institution that the rest of the scientific world had decided to denounce. Ten years after the institution has been destroyed, Joseph has joined the ranks of the darker side of society, continuously falling into the moral abyss on his way to living a corrupt adult life.  However, a theft gone wrong forces Joseph to re-evaluate his life. In this search for reason in the future world, he slowly starts to understand why his father fought for his beliefs. Joseph reestablishes his relationships with his family and his old friend Julianna Danielson, and everything appears to be working out. That is, until he begins to fight back against the regime of William Natas, his father's old nemesis, to resurrect the fight for his father's beliefs. When a presidential backing and limitless wealth make William Natas one of the most powerful men in the future world, Joseph finds himself in the middle of a power struggle that could cost him his life.

Witt’s stories – both long and short - and Test Drive completely lived up to my expectations. It is short but that doesn’t mean it isn’t hot, or complete. From the moment Sean and Jackson come together it’s clear that’s where they should be, and I found myself rooting for them from the very first kiss. Their dilemma is recognisable and realistic; in the current economic climate nobody can afford to take risks with their jobs.Of course being sensible is far harder in practice than it is in theory and it’s only a matter of time before something has to give. I liked the way the story ended. It was the ending I’d been hoping for from the start and I was very happily surprised to have my wish granted. The overall conclusion therefore has to be that L.A. Witt has, once again, thoroughly entertained me with her words.

Some books on emotional stuggles are written as if we human beings do not have a spiritual side. Other books are written as if the proper prescription for all emotional struggles is, "Take two Bible verses and call me in the morning." Some are written from such a deep clinical perspective that they are actually worse than useless to the layperson. This book is not like that.If you, or someone you know, struggles with depression, this book is worth considering. If you, or someone you know, holds onto pains from the past and nurses them to the point of ill-health, this book is worth considering. If you are a professional counselor and don't have much experience with "Christian counseling", this book is worth considering. If you are a pastor or other religious professional, but don't have much experience with counseling from a clinical perspective, this book is worth considering.Actually, this book is so well written, that if you are breathing and have the ability to read this review, this book is worth considering. It should be in every personal library. You never know when you will be confronted with someone who needs your friendship and care.

By A Customer The way I came about this book was my church home pastor is doing a bible study series based on this book.Little did I know that the Lord would use this book(as well as His living Word) to destroy yokes and just annihilate strongholds in my life.Dr. Seamands is straight forward with his language, uses the bible , and also human examples to make his points flesh for the reader. Many times I had to put this book down because it was just so deep and I saw myself in a lot of the pages. As christians we have been told the false doctrine that if we are depressed or lacking in self-esteem that something is wrong with us and that we are not true christians.Well this book dispels these myths and outright lies and gives biblical proof that prophets too had emotional crisis at given times. This book gives you simple, helpful and Godly steps to rising above the enemy's tactics to keep you in a pity party with yourself and is not afraid to say to the saints that you can love the Lord with all of your soul and still want to die.It gives a way for us to work out our problems ,issues and just gives a lot of insight. This is the book that simply(along with the Word)changed me and my desire to just live life in Christ. What a blessing this book has been to me.

The planet Majesty is covered by a thick green growth, miles deep. Nobody knows what caused it or even what lies at the bottom of the growth. When Lysandra and her father (a coyote scientist) take on a mission to dive underneath the teeming bio-mass, no one knows what to expect. Even wild conjecture has not prepared them for the extreme strangeness that they will find around them. Bizarre, three-legged beings inhabit the bottom layer amongst the ruins of an ancient civilization, which may also hide the secret behind the current state of the planet. More importantly, they realize that the Hooded Seven plan to attack the human Confederacy. Can Lysandra and her father survive beneath the bio-mass long enough to understand Majesty, uncover the Hooded Seven’s secrets and save their own world?

Jungle, in some areas, that was six miles DEEP. Nobody had EVER seen what lay at the bottom, not even the natives, the taflak, knew what was under the Sea of Leaves. So when Lysandra and her father, G. Howell Nahuatl (both characters from Tom Paine Maru) are hired to test out a subfoline they don't know what they will find. A Yeti, a lost civilization and the Hooded Seven. Oh my.The first few chapters overlap the last few chapters of BrightSuit MacBear. In fact, both Middle C and Goldberry, characters from BrightSuit MacBear, become major characters in this story. Here is the funny part. When I first red this story years ago I knew nothing about the Confederacy Series or about L. Neil Smith. I enjoyed the story, then years later found The Probability Broach and only now have linked the book to the author. Taflak Lysandra is a adventure story, first and last, set in a different universe. Once again, you could read it as a stand alone, like I did so many years ago, or as part of the greater whole, like I just finished doing.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A juvenile but written well enough for adults By Trelligan This is a story in the universe of 'Probability Broach' by the same author. It is the second of a sub-series in a juvenile vein - Brightsuit MacBear was the first - and the third hasn't been written yes as of October 2013. The Taflak are an alien, tripodal race that lives on a world smothered in greenery gone wild - thousands of kilometers deep at the equator. In this adventure we find clues to what caused the growth, and what the planet was like before. Science fiction in a libertarian-philosophy vein.

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Weakest of the L. Neil's Confederacy books By K. Morris I've enjoyed all of the Confederacy (not southern confederacy) books written by L. Neil Smith since the first one "The Probability Broach." However, this one was the least enjoyable of the stories.Similar plot line to most of the others. Free and highly armed individuals whip evil pro-government conspirators.

The Regime is on the hunt, forcing the Resistance to take refuge aboard the Lifemaker, an advanced submarine that houses a special cargo: a handful of women who can still give birth to human children. To evade the Regime's own submersibles, all parties must work together, but tensions are high, and not everyone on board is looking out for the greater good. As they descend into the deeps, they quickly learn that not all monsters work for the Regime.

Interview with the Author

Q - What makes the Great Iron War steampunk fantasy series special? A - The characters, the vehicles, the story, the world, the action, and the adventure. Expect fast-paced steampunk novels, many quirky characters, lots of witty banter, and tons of good old-fashioned guns, metal, cogs and steam. Q - What exactly is the steampunk genre? A - Many people see it in different ways, but it's essentially a setting where steam-powered technology is predominant, typically depicted in a Victorian-esque world. Sometimes this can be an alternate history, while other times, like in the Great Iron War steampunk series, it is set in a completely different world. No matter where or when it's set, however, there's usually style and attitude in abundance. Of course, the "punk" side of the equation is just as important, and this generally represents a kind of anti-establishment mindset for the characters in the novels. This is especially true of the members of the Resistance in Hopebreaker and its sequels, who are living in a dystopian world ruled by a literally demonic government, but it can also be more subtle, such as the liberation of women from gender stereotypes, and a general rebelling against the expectations of the Victorian era. While fans of the genre may focus on historical periods, many of these issues are arguably still relevant today. There are also related genres and sub-genres, including (but not limited to): clockpunk (where machinery is powered by clockwork), dieselpunk (where diesel is the primary fuel of technology), and atompunk or atomicpunk (with the introduction of atomic energy, weapons, and the Cold War that accompanies them). While the Great Iron War is largely a steampunk series, the novels also include elements of these other genres. Q - So, what makes these steampunk novels a must read? A - Because there's a sweet spot where science fiction and fantasy meets, and the Great Iron War falls bang smack in the middle of that. There is a demon invasion and occupation of a different world, magical amulets that stop them being born, the substance called Hope that they need to survive, and then there's trucks, tanks, submarines, airships, guns, mechanical men, clockwork contraptions, and emerging new technologies that will shape, or destroy, the world of Altadas. The bottom line: Like many of the best steampunk novels out there, the Great Iron War oozes attitude, action and adventure. Q - How many books are in this stumpunk fantasy series? When will they be released? A - There are six books in this series, each releasing roughly 3-4 months apart. I'm also working on a standalone prequel novel, and there's certainly room for more stories set in the dystopian world of Altadas. Sea Creatures, Demons, Mines and More By Liquid Frost In this adventure, the land war is abandoned and the Pure, along with the rag-tag resistance, takes to the water for survival. Where I thought Hopebreaker was "okay", I enjoyed Lifemaker more. The second book in a set or trilogy typically fleshes out characters and Wilson definitely followed the recipe. The main cast of characters are back, but interesting back-story and developments take them to a place I wasn't expecting. For a reader, that is always a nice surprise. Lifemaker shares elements with Verne and Beach (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Run Silent, Run Deep); uncharted depths, creatures, mines, and The Enemy (Regime). As the good side stays submerged, Wilson expands on Tabs' back-story to understand why she is who she is and Whistler - well - he becomes even more human through the struggles. Jacob and Whistler become partners-in-crime which leans more toward a father-son relationship. Adding to all the situations the crew must work though, a saboteur has a plan of his/her own. There is less action then Hopebreaker, but the action is still good. Death, injury, and destruction all come to play. The author provided a copy for review. I'm glad I stuck with the story.

12 of 14 people found the following review helpful. an unforgettable addition to the series By Jonel Wilson has created an absolutely unforgettable story. His fantastic world building doesn’t simply bring this story to life; it brings readers directly into the middle of the story. The visually descriptive writing sets the tone and the scene for the story. Realistic and heart pounding action sequences really increase the suspense. The novel is well written and edited, with the plot presented in a logical yet captivating manner that keeps readers on their toes. I will note that you really do need to read this series in order, both for context and character development. The cast of characters in this novel is really holding me captive. Jacob actually broke my heart. Hearing his story tore at me, and seeing him with Whistler is heart-warming. I’m really starting to feel an emotional connection with some of the characters in this novel, and others, I just want to see get what they deserve. This contrast in character types makes you feel like you’re really there with the characters, like you’re invested in their lives. Some of the secondary characters absolutely floored me. They are larger than life and absolutely priceless! I can’t say more without giving too much away, but you’ll know them when you meet them. The dialogue also has a good flow, & the unique dialects really bring the characters to life and help them stand out from one another. My final thoughts? Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! I need the next novel now! I need to know what happens next. I am so fully invested in this story that these characters have become part of my life. This novel is dystopia with a kick. Wilson’s originality and talent as a bard really shine through. The suspense and battling against the odds made it impossible to put this one down. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. An excellent read... By Charline Ratcliff, Author Having never read anything from author, Dean F. Wilson prior to picking up Lifemaker: The Great Iron War, Book Two, I was uncertain what to expect. This Steampunk/Dystopian Fiction seemed like it could be interesting – based upon the brief synopsis I had read. However, knowing that this was the second book of the series, I was slightly worried that it might not work as a stand-alone tale. Regardless, I found some quiet time and began to read.Lifemaker: The Great Iron War, Book Two begins in October of Year 15. A terrible war has been raging for some time now between demons and humans, and things have not gone well for mankind. Jacob, one of this book’s main protagonists, is taking refuge aboard the Lifemaker (an enormous and extremely advanced submarine) along with most of what remains of the human Resistance. The ship, and all who are aboard, descends into the depths of the sea; intent upon escaping assured death if they are located by any members of the demonic Regime. So, initially I struggled to get ‘into’ Lifemaker – mainly because I didn’t understand who the various characters were, or why they were on the run from the Regime. As I read further though, and gleaned additional story information and/or bonded with the novel’s various players, time flew and I was surprised when I discovered I’d reached the end.I don’t want to provide additional plot in my review, but Lifemaker: The Great Iron War, Book Two was actually a great book and I’m glad I decided to read it. Wilson is an excellent writer, and is quite thorough in his character and/or scene descriptions. He somehow always manages to bring the appropriate-to-the-moment character emotions to life – even in scenes that some authors might find difficult to write due to lack of real-life inexperience. In summary, an excellent read, although I highly recommend that readers begin this series by reading Hopebreaker: The Great Iron War, Book One prior to picking up Lifemaker.(Book provided free of charge for an honest review).

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great Adult Adaptation By Nicole Butler Spark-X rounds out an interesting and intriguing series of novels. I have been waiting for this one for quite some time and I am happy I was allowed to read it. Ember is in for the battle of a lifetime, she must decide which side she will choose. The good, or the bad. She has spent a ton of energy trying to keep the distance between Asher and her. It’s hard to fall in love with someone that you know can’t be with you forever. I felt Embers turmoil, and her reluctance to accept things as they were.Cameron puts a wrench in their relationship. However, as bad as he may be…he really isn’t what he appears. If I had to choose between Asher and Cameron I would be torn. That is how Ember feels, the good side loves Asher while the bad side loves Cameron. Me personally, I pick Cameron…Yum! Cameron shows his true side throughout Spark-X and his deep feelings for Ember. I can feel the torment in him knowing she loves another. It’s on the edge of gut wrenching. I could see his face, masked, trying to hide how he feels. Ouch!Ember and Asher delve deep trying to figure out the details of a book. They venture into some intense situations to be able to read the content of it. Parts of it ripped my heart out, but have faith this is a happily ever after.I love this book and I truly enjoyed this series. The supernatural and unique plot twists create a tension to keep the readers intrigued. I was glued to the pages, you know when you can’t turn the page fast enough to find out what happens. That was me.Spark-X is an adventure not to be missed, mixed with memorable characters that stand on their own. Grab it up!

I have to say it has been quite awhile since I read the other books so I needed a little refresher. Once I realized which book series this was I couldn't wait to read it. I was so into this book that I was even dreaming about it, it was that good. I love the story of Ember and everyone else that is in her life or were in her life. The story was very sad but I loved the end, it was perfect. I want to know more about Cameron though, it kind of just left of hanging with him.

BOOK #4 IN THE BEST‑SELLING TAU CETI AGENDA SERIES.A century and a half after the Martian Separatist Wars, and the final defeat of insane terrorist leader El Ahmi, Alexander Moore returns to the stars with the Sienna Madira, a United States Navy supercarrier spacecraft outfitted with advanced FTL and endlessly strange, extremely effective, quantum‑based weapons and remote sensing technology. And, of course, he's brought Marines, and lots of them. These are troops superbly trained for space battle, and equipped with advanced powered armor and artificial intelligence backup.Moore's task: hunt down remnant weaponry platforms left by the brilliant, mad artificial intelligence known as Copernicus, the being ultimately responsible for the Solar System wide civil war. Yet Moore is about to uncover something far more sinister: before his destruction, Copernicus had established multiple mecha‑warrior defended bases with the intent of resuming the destruction of humanity. Worse, an a.i. presence even more dangerous, evil, and clever than Copernicus may have formed an alliance with something else out there with a similar goal: wipe humanity from the galaxy forever. But those enemies will have to face a fully armed and equipped military task force led by a resolute general and his soldiers who know they are all that stand between human life, freedom, and progress—and the total annihilation of mankind. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management).About Travis S. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Taylor's books and really enjoyed them all By J. D. Aumann I have read all of Mr. Taylor's books and really enjoyed them all, so I was excited to see this one come out. However, the slipshod way the story is told, the gaps in time and the lack of explanation around issues in the story make it hard to follow. The previous stories make little if any mention of the AI which took over the head of the Seperatists, yet now this is the main character and the story comes across as if this was something which should have been known all along. It's very disappointing to see such a good story idea treated so poorly.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Shoulda stopped at One Good Soldier By Josh I loved the Tau Ceti trilogy and was very excited when I first heard that the series would be continuing. Sadly it felt like all the things I really enjoyed from the previous books were missing. I loved the solid dog fights and descriptions of ground combat in the other books but somehow this book while it did have some exciting parts, didn't really have those truly exciting fights. It feels like the technology was getting to the point where anyone could do anything now. I mean AEM suits can now do the puke and death blossom and their new QM abilities allow them to move virtually anywhere on the battlefield. Engineers figure out how to create shields that make the ships undetectable to sensor except for the fact they can still be scene with the naked eye and the same shields will bend missiles away from their ship or even turn lasers away. Why not just create AI controlled mecha, battle bots and clones to do the fighting... oh wait they do... It's like all the tactics and strategy the other books used and broke down for us just went out the window in this book. The closest we got to a tactical explanation is let's do the battle of the 300 in space and pincer the enemy using the secret goat path that equates to use just QM jumping in front and behind the enemy. That's pretty much how Alexander outlines their battle strategy. The 300 & the battle of Thermopylae on space... In the 2nd half of the book, it turns into more capital ship battles. I thought it would get better but think, Star Trek TOS type of battles with beam weapons that can just turn in space at right angles to make sure they don't miss. The mecha pilots are relegated to the background. I think more time about Diana Moore is written in sex scenes than she is piloting mecha. The characters we have come to know and love feel like they make choices that are out of character just to make sure the plot advances. Jack Bolan goes from Advanced ground recon to CAG to CAG running supply runs in his mecha to capital ship captain. Also sentences would be repeated multiple times in just a few pages. I lost count of how many times/variations of "Nancy could see why Dee liked the Seal" was used. By the time I finished this book I felt like it was all over the place, and I couldn't really decipher an intelligent reason for the main characters attacking a new enemy. We now trust Capernicus and take it on their word to attack another group because he says they are the enemy... These actions just don't fit the Alexander Moore we've followed through so many other stories and the supposed jumps in logic the characters make boggle my mind. I was seriously shocked that the book is a cliffhanger unlike all the other previous books.Judge for yourself, especially if you already have read the first three books. While I hope the Mr. Taylor continues to write, I'm not sure if I'll be reading the next book in this series. Sadly I'm just not interested enough to see how things turn out... Though I definitely am open to reading something else he may put out in the future.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. If you liked the first three books you should definitely read this fourth book in the series. By Nobody Special This is the fourth volume of a series I particularly enjoy. The story changes significantly with revelations that come in this new volume and this indicates that there is a good deal more to come taking the series in a new direction. Only fault I can find with this installment of the series is that the book ends in such a way that you know exactly where the next part of the story will pick up. It was still a thoroughly enjoyable read.
