About the Author Thomas A. Watson lives in Northwestern Montana, but grew up in Doyline, Louisiana and Grenada, Mississippi. He moved to Shreveport, Louisiana to start a family. He graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelors in Science. Watson's love of reading, which was instilled in him at a young age by his parents, inspired him to begin his writing career. Watson is an RN in an emergency room in Missoula, Montana. He loves the outdoors and taking time off of work.

By Amazon Customer More like a 3.75.** SPOILER ALERT**Ok, but a number of things bothered me, and didn't make sense given that we are told that Nathan Owen's main, overriding drive was to make the dangerous and arduous three thousand mile trek to get home to his survival group as conditions steadily deteriorated and violence increased.My primary problem was with protagonist Owen--from his attitude and actions a very pragmatic, no-nonsense, very savvy survivor who was quick to kill if opposed--spending the first few critical days after an EMP attack---when he knew that violence was not yet widespread and he would face little opposition if he undertook the essential first step of walking out of a high population area---tutoring total strangers he'd just met at the truck stop in survival techniques, and distributing almost all of his arms and equipment to them.The decision and these actions just seemed at odds with Owen's overall goal, and the single-minded focus, ruthlessness, and the pragmatism necessary to achieve that goal. Maybe it was the good, Christian thing to do, but the time taken certainly endangered his efforts to get home.Also seriously endangering his efforts to walk home was his taking the robbed, beaten, injured, and untrained thirteen year old girl he had come across with him when he finally did start out on his trek, instead of dropping her off with his new found friends who would have taken good care of her. Moreover, on the way out of town they ran into the girl's robber, Owen killed him, and the girl ordered Owen's attack dog to kill the dog which had bitten her and helped in robbing her.In this instance, as well, the girl's murderous action was also out of sync with what we had seen before of her character and attitude. I just didn't buy that she could kill so easily--and a dog at that--in just a couple of days.

Following the story of Nathan and Ares as they deal with the beginning of the EMP disaster is at once an interesting story, a learning experience for the reader, and even at many points amusing. As they help others to hopefully, try to survive this new world, and for Nathan to face the fact that he if over 2000 miles from home and family has you rooting for Nathan and his friend to survive.I bought this book and finished it withing 8 hours..I could not put it down any more than necessary. At the end, I kept trying to 'turn' the page on my kindle..I wasn't ready to be done yet!! My only complaint with this book is that now I have to wait for the next book! I recommend this book, and any book, written by Thomas A. Watson. You journey with the characters, you laugh and you cry. Love this author!

By Jim I'll go on record as being a "Blue Plague" fan and well every time a new book comes out, I read the new book first, then re-read the entire series from start to finish. Well I have read it more than that, since I usually read it on my way overseas either to Asia or Europe.I didn't realize this book or any of the Blue Plague books (I have been with Bruce, Mike and the others since the being in the Fall) had been released until I happened to try a search one night.Now having said that, I will say that I was not disappointed by this book and am looking forward to the next book. I gave this a 5. I was a little thrown by Nathan sticking around so long and risking his life for people that he had no real connection or obligation to protect, but I eventually came to the conclusion that if I was in that situation, I would end up doing the same thing. Then pressing on as fast as possible to reach my family and loved ones.I should point out that there are some proof reading errors, but not enough to really make a huge impact. Granted it could be a bit annoying, but for me it was not a real issue. There was at least one word (possibly more) that is not normally used by Americans and am not sure how many of the readers know what a Banger is........and doubt they have bangers and mash in a truck stop in the deep south. But hey I could be wrong.....it has been awhile since I was in that area of the country.Usually when I encounter poor editing, with a lot of errors that required me to either re-read, "interpret", "decipher", I will down rate the score, but in this case while there were a few, they did not cause me any real issues, but were a bit of a let down.I did like the fact that Nathan never passed up an opportunity to strip the dead of whatever they were carrying and use it to help others, who were in need. In some books the hero just shoots and scoots, leaving behind what could be vital supplies laying on the ground for someone else to pick up. If nothing else, every time someone in a situation like this expends a round down range, it is gone forever, so replacing them from the enemy makes sense to me, whenever possible. After all Nathan has to travel somewhere in the neighborhood of at least 3000 miles to get home, on foot and with a dog and two young teenagers as his only companions and back up.Now I am sure some people will complain about the fact that he had a "ton of gear" in his Suburban, or even went so far as to have a full auto sear set in his vehicle. Let's just say that I have "seen/heard/know/suspect" some of the people that I see around the range and local gun stores having some really nice gear in their BOB and BOV,. Some just have an SKS or even a Mosin Nagant of some kind in there. Some of them would not surprise me to find out that something they should not legally have, may or may not be available for use should a serious SHTF situation arise.Heck someone I know has a FN SCAR 17s in his BOV (with some other nice gear as well) and he is a Rad tech (well actually I think his job title is Nuclear Medicine Tech) and makes some decent money. Those FN SCARS are not cheap. I guess it all boils down on what your priority is and what you can or are willing to afford to purchase for you use in a SHTF situation.Anyway enough of that, one of my stray thoughts was that while I am definitely interested in reading the second book in this series, I hope it does not delay the next book in the Blue Plague series.Overall imho, this book was well worth the price and I would highly recommend it and I will definitely be re-reading it, and is stored on my Kindle under the category of All Time Favorites, along with the entire Blue Plague series....among others.What I would like to see though, is some type of notification system, like other authors have so that when new books come out, people that sign up are automatically notified.I would like to thank the author for his hard work and effort as well.
