The Survival Apocalypse series opens nearly a century after an apocalyptic calamity caused most folks to die after civilization collapsed. In the days of our epic series beginning with Escape to the Choccolocco Valley, by ones, groups, and tribes man does his best in a world reminiscent of the earliest days of pioneering America. The adventure opens as young Jedidiah Reuel is forced to flee his home in north Georgia because of nature and relatives. Heading west he encounters interesting post apocalyptic characters, both good and bad, and faces the dangers of a new and primitive civilization. It's the world of Survival Apocalypse. Be advised...Though the chief protagonist is only a lad, this book is not presented as juvenile fiction. Jed is no Harry Potter. Much grown up action and adventure awaits. In the Survival Apocalypse series you’ll experience the romance of being a pioneer with all the hardship, challenges, and successes too. You’ll read about love, laughter, death most cruel, and a promise for the new future, post apocalypse. In the world I have created, scattered humans still manage to survive. But one bunch survives better than the rest, and that’s the residents of The Choccolocco Valley. How they did it, and why they succeed will be revealed in the books beginning with this one. You’ll find no hocus pocus or contrived material. Everything is as accurate and realistically extrapolated as I can possibly make it. Come enjoy this hearty series beginning with Escape to the Choccolocco Valley

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Refreshingly different By Amazon Customer A different take on survival set 80 years after the apocalypse. Survival means hiding and sometimes killing in a brutal world of cannibals and preachers. Yes that seems unusual but its quite fascinating. It also reveals a divergent language and it's courageous to have a new style of speaking because the writer has to be consistent...this was achieved. Looking forward to the next one.

I read a lot of post apocalyptic books and was excited to find one that didn't just regurgitate the immediate apocalyptic event By babytxblue The story was a little slow and was difficult to get into. I read a lot of post apocalyptic books and was excited to find one that didn't just regurgitate the immediate apocalyptic event like so many do. It was refreshing to have a book that dealt with the survivors years down the road. Unfortunately, the book didn't quite live up to my expectations. I couldn't place my finger on it, but something about the author's writing style made some parts difficult to understand and retain.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A good series By Topoftheworld The good: The characters are well developed and the plot and story lines are generally well written. Some holes and a very odd placement for the explanation of the arcane world becoming public. I can see this series becoming a favorite of mine if the author can keep the same depth of character and not succumb to apparent need to turn protagonists into super heroes. The bad: there are some inconsistencies and holes that need to be fixed. The book is set 6 months after the first book and Eric has acquired equipment and apparently some training yet even with Amy's guidance has not progressed at all in that time in his understanding of magic or what is contained in his mothers books? It even appears that he hasn't even read them. In fact it appears that this book in many ways should only be a week or two later based on every other indicator. The major inconsistency that didn't appear in the first book as obviously is that supposedly arcane have the same rights as humans yet Eric is apparently able to kill them and leave bodies laying around with no consequence. No manslaughter charges or even investigations besides a five minute talk with a single detective. The ugly: The editing at times is just plain horrible. Some errors should have been caught with a simple spell check while others are the wrong use of similar sounding word. Yes the book is only a few dollars but you would hope that it would buy you a book that at least was spell and grammar checked.Overall though I did enjoy the book and have enjoyed the series so far. It is not the Dresden files or Iron Druid series but it is entertaining and close enough to want to buy the next book hoping it gets there.

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Big Disappointment By GK This book was a big bust after the promise showed in the first of the series. The main character shows no development, through two books now he has no idea what his most trusted partner is, he drops everything to help a guy he doesn't like or trust, and the only thing truly magical about him is how often he loses his gun. Doesn't matter, he can't hit anything with it anyway. This matters because although he's healthy, in shape, and six four, everyone he meets can kick his ass. Editing, grammar usage, and sentence structure was rough enough to be a distraction. Sorry I bought this one.

I found a few too many cases of poor pronoun use: "she looked at Serena and I". That is a pet peeve for many of us, and I can't figure out why a writer would be allowed to use it continually. For me, that lost it a star. I am greatly enjoying the story arc and will certainly read the third book, I just hope this single grammar point is addressed.

"Downfall" is book #1 in the Systemic series. Something terrible is breeding in the mountains of northwest China…a virus so infectious, its symptoms so overwhelming that its mortality rate is almost absolute. The “Su flu” as it eventually becomes known, quickly ravages the body of its host, killing it within just days, and worse yet, it’s gone airborne. Just weeks after making its appearance on the world stage – the earth’s population held as its captive audience – the virus has taken that stage and annihilated nearly all its spectators. Writer and stay-at-home dad John Stevens never considered himself a “prepper” like the ones he’d seen on television. Just a regular guy, married to a regular girl, with a wonderful two-year-old son, life in the suburbs of Chicago is good, and John and his family are living the American dream…that is, until the Su flu strikes. With mankind suddenly gripped by the worst pandemic in history, will the foresight that led John to prepare some emergency supplies and an evacuation plan be enough for him and his family to survive not just this deadly virus but the chaos that ensues? Or will they succumb to the renegade lawlessness that has turned much of humanity’s remnants into a vicious, scavenging, do-anything-to-survive populace? As John and his family search for some semblance of the world they once knew, they’ll discover just what they’re willing to do to survive in a grueling post-pandemic world.

By Sandra B The book preview sounded so good I bought all 5 books at once and after reading book one, I definitely feel it was a good decision. These people are exactly the "normal Joe's", people who grab grocery bags and clear their pantry shelves, grab warm clothes, blankets, the camping tent, etc...and without any 9 month planning, get the heck out of town! The story was intense and believable from beginning to end and held my attention constantly. I definitely recommend the book....now I'm off to book 2 and see how they survive (or not) their cliffhanger ending in book one!!!!!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. entertaining By Amazon Customer It was a good story, plausible plotlines, well crafted. A bit more slap and tickle than I cared for but not so much that it ruined the rest of the book. Fair amount of violence, but that is to be expected to some degree in the SHTF genre. I will say that I was entertained enough and vested enough in the characters to be really irked by the cliffhanger ending :)

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Who Will Survive? By Odie John is a prepper who has done a lot of thinking about every possible disaster that might strike. Friends and family thinks his prepping is a bit odd but harmless. When a killer flu hits and people are dying by the millions, John and his family head for the wilderness to seek safety. Before he leaves he encourages other loved ones to join his family. The question is, will they listen and leave the city in time. This is a fantastic story about an average guy who tries to care for those he cares about. Life becomes an hour by hour struggle, making them all wonder if they'll live to see tomorrow. Great story!

Review "Guardians of Terath: Seeking Sorrow is very unique. Immediately I noticed that not only is the writing style unique but the world, characters and plot are all unique as well." -Candace's Book Blog "I truly enjoyed reading Guardians of Terath: Seeking Sorrow. The writing is excellent and I felt that it blended aspects of many beliefs to form a world and characters that really felt alive to me. My favorite is the Shiv I won't say much but let's suffice that being reborn, awe inspiring and badass are great descriptive words;) I honestly can't wait to see what comes of this quintet of characters."-Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock "Imaginative and exciting Seeking Sorrow was an awesome adventure with great characters. The writing brought together action, emotion, curiosity and a little bit of magic for a very exciting and fast-paced ending that I didn't see coming."-Stephanie's Book Reviews

From the Author Hi, thanks for checking out Seeking Sorrow! This is a very character-focused sci-fantasy book, and a good fit for an adult or NA crossover audience. The main thrust of the story is  how society would evolve with abundant resources, including a resource that resembles what those of us on Earth would call magic. Rather than a dystopian with heroes fighting to break free of something oppressive, this is more of a utopian, with heroes fighting against previously unconsidered problems. It's a reversal that has been very interesting to explore.

From the Inside Flap Author's Foreword Welcome to Terath, a world much likeEarth, with advanced technologies and humans much like us. Terathians werelucky enough to evolve on a world without environmental stressors like foodscarcity and life-threatening climates. As a result, there was never any hunger, homelessness, or war. There was no need to develop advanced weapons. But what happens when a nearly utopiansociety suddenly realizes that it's unprepared for a crisis they neverconsidered? With sword and shield and bow, plus a natural resource called mana thatwould look a lot like magic to us here on Earth, a chosen few must worktogether to forge a new path and safeguard their world.  Welcome to their journey.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Completely unique! By Candace Robinson This book is a sort of sci-fantasy. It has some futuristic aspects and it takes place on a different planet, but it also has some magical elements and some creatures that seem more in the fantasy zone. Lately though I have discovered this is a really great mix! I love fantasy but scifi I’m not always sure about. When you combine the two though, it’s fantastic!Guardians of Terath: Seeking Sorrow is very unique. Immediately I noticed that not only is the writing style unique but the world, characters and plot are all unique as well. I happened to LOVE this particular aspect and it kept me anxious to see where things would go, just because I couldn’t really predict anything. This is a character driven novel, at least I felt it was. But it’s pretty equally focused on all five characters. Which is not often done. This obviously makes it take a bit longer to get to know them, but it worked surprisingly well regardless. The transition from character to character was smooth and done in a way that I didn’t feel confused. It may have taken a chapter to get use to it, but it wasn’t at all long and I barely remember ever not connecting with the style. It’s not often that I find myself almost giddy about characters. Like there’s just something you can’t help but really love. I actually felt this way about several of the characters and at first I was wondering how it would work, everyone was so nice and so agreeable and they all just got along so well. I really liked this, but how realistic is it? Well, we do start to see the other sides of the characters so it felt real, but I never felt annoyance and irritation at them.I never felt like this book had info dumps but I still got a good idea of the world. And of course the author was clever and had characters asking other characters questions which made it easy to get to know this information. There are some good twists in the book but the first one was kind of given away by the cover so it wasn’t as shocking as it could have been (apparently this wasn't even suppose to be a twist, interesting!). However, I LOVE this cover. Seriously, LOVE it! So I’ll deal. ;) I still loved how that particular aspect went with the maybe romance and well, other stuff that you’ll have to read to know.So should you read this book? Yes, you should definitely read it! Be prepared for a slower start novel, as it’s not packed full of action off the bat. But for me, I didn’t care that much as I was enjoying getting to know the characters and world. Totally worth reading!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A great new fantasy adventure. By C. J. Anaya Author of The Healer Series There were so many things I enjoyed about this narrative, I hardly know where to start. Just a brief summary here: Two towns have literally disappeared, gone up in ash along with any inhabitants. A group of five people with varying gifts and backgrounds must band together in order to discover who or what is causing such widespread destruction before another town is obliterated from the face of Terath. Not only is the plot intriguing and original, but it is full of luscious, captivating detail in regards to world building, emotional conveyance, inner conflict and dialogue. I learned a thing or two from the author about fundamental writing techniques that I truly appreciated and needed.Anyone who knows me understands my obsession with strong female leads, and Kassimeigh is everything I could have ever hoped for in a main female character. She has trained and as a shiv, a kind of judge and peacekeeper of their realm where the discipline for her order strikingly resembles that of buddhist monks. On the flip side of this role, as adjudicator and peacekeeper it is necessary for shivs to be masters in the art of combat and Kassimeigh has some serious skills in that department. She is a well rounded character who uses her training to keep her emotions balanced and in check despite being thrown out of her comfort zone due to changes in her environment and changes in her relationships.I related to Izzy's character as well. Having studied psychology and possessing a weird obsession for the social dynamics and interplay between others, I thought her insights into individual's emotions and motivations were spot on and so interesting to read about. Her quirky, teasing nature lent itself to some wonderful levity in the book. I guess you could say she and Arc were the plucky comic relief.I adored Arc, and felt that his personality most resembled mine due to his genuine interest in other's backgrounds, thoughts and feelings. He's a real people person, affable and charming. I couldn't help but hope that something might happen between he and Kassimeigh.Luc and Will play important roles in combat. Luc has the innate ability to control Mana, a powerful energy source on Terath. As a Mana wielder he possesses quite a bit of power. He must wield that power to encounter the person responsible for the devastation of two towns. Will is a blade and an incredible fighter who is coming into his own and learning to lighten up a little. This isn't a romance novel, but there is romance present, something I enjoyed immensely, and the romance was very tasteful. I could easily give this to my teenager and feel fine about it. On the whole DiPietro has weaved an intriguing mystery where first impressions are not always what they seem, and bonds of loyalty and friendship are tested to their limits. It is enjoyable to discover just how each of these fully developed characters handle every challenge that besets them. I highly recommend this to...well...pretty much everyone. I can't imagine anyone not liking this well written fantasy adventure.

By Kara Lauren I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!I have been looking forward to reading this one for over a month and it did not disappoint! Once I found out that Zen was another redhead like me I had to check it out! :)This story was intriguing to me because it is about Mana. I play a mmorpg, called Ultima Online(it's an older one, before WoW), and mana is very important. However, it is even more necessary to the Guardians of Terath.Zen DiPietro did an awesome job at building up the plot and characters. Once I got to the middle of the book, I couldn't stop reading. I stayed up into the early morning hours to finish it. I cannot wait for the next book. I am a fan now for sure.I loved each character, especially the Shiv. I loved all the surprises in this book, and I won't spoil any of them. However, I did not see any of them coming, so it definitely was surprising each time! Zen described the characters so vividly I could picture them in my head. I loved Arc, his charisma never faltered. This book had some violence, no sex or even kissing that I saw (Here's hoping for a lot of kisses in book two.), and just one bad word "dammit" if you consider that a bad word. So I would definitely recommend this for anyone 13+. I think male and females would equally enjoy this story as well! The ending was great, but left me wanting me more. I cannot wait for book two to see what happens. I couldn't get enough of this story or the characters. If you like YA fantasy(but really this book is for any age), awesome characters (especially the one with red hair!), and an awesome plot check out this book, you won't be disappointed!

Delmater Jews vs Aliens is a charity anthology supporting Mosac (Greenwich, South London), which provides practical and emotional support to non-abusing parents, carers and families of children who have been sexually abused. But don’t buy it to support an excellent cause. Buy it because it is fascinating, and at times laugh-out-loud funny. We start off with “Antaius Floating in the Heavens Among the Stars” by Andrea Phillips. Oy, gevalt, this alien wedding venue and catering company is a Jewish mother-of-the-bride’s nightmare. You could see the inescapable train wreck coming when the groom’s favorite food was “pigs in a blanket.” The place has a decent reputation, but the aliens who run it have lost their human adviser."Welcome to Antaius Floating in the Heavens Among the Stars, the galaxy’s premiere spot for luxurious accommodation, fine dining, and views so beautiful they are capable of halting your autonomous biological functions temporarily!" Let’s just say the person who thought this was a good place to have a wedding won’t be invited to Seder next year.“The Scapegoat Factory” by Ofir Touche Gaflais is possibly my favorite story in the collection. In the future some of the dead inexplicably reanimate, not as zombies but as real people. The Reamimated cannot get work, their families want nothing to do with them, and they cannot get out of it by dying again no matter how hard they try. It’s tough-going to be a reanimated person, especially if you are one of God’s (re-)Chosen People. But there is paying work as a scapegoat, and people blame the Jews for everything. Interesting resolution. In “The Matter of Meroz” Rosanne Rabinowitz has a rabbi who describes manner of travel called “the leaping of the road,” or kefitzat haderech. It seems Aliens were here in the time of Deborah, and we blocked to road for them to return to the stars by “jaunting,” Alfred Bester-style. Should we reach out to these aliens in a time of need, or should the knowledge stay hidden on an ancient scroll? Good story.A meteorite sends us the rules for speaking the unpronounceable Name of G-d in “Alien Thoughts” by Eric Kaplan. It’s sent by something that wants us to have the knowledge so it can infect our world. We let it in, but manage to send it off elsewhere. And the consequences are unexpected.“The Reluctant Jew” by Rachel Swirsky is set on a space station. Aliens are very interested in human religions, a crew member who is at best an agnostic has a vaguely Jewish background. Hey, presto – he’s ordered to reluctantly represent the Jews at a booth next to all the other showcased religions. For the good of inter-stellar relationships, don’t you know. Why the aliens are interested is . . . pretty cool.It also includes “To Serve… Breakfast” by A&A author Jay Caselberg, “The Farm,” written by Elana Gomel, “Don’t Blink” by Gon Ben Ari, “Nameless and Shameless” by Lois H. Gresh, “The Ghetto” by Matthue Roth, and “Excision” by Naomi Alderman .

About the Author

Miguel Oliveira

Miguel Oliveira is a versatile IT architect, system engineer, and information security enthusiast who has been living in Switzerland since 2012; before then, he lived in Portugal. During that time, Miguel worked mostly as an IT consultant, having worked with the major companies in Portugal (namely Novabase and Microsoft) with which he designed, developed, and implemented several System Center solutions across different clients, from the banking/financial industry to energy/oil companies. In Switzerland, he worked for international organizations and for a private company as an infrastructure architect and as a senior systems engineer at the time of publishing this book. Miguel's experience in IT started early as huge curiosity developed in him when he was very young, and it hasn't stopped ever since. The will to develop his knowledge was so strong that at the age of 16, he had his own server at home, and with it, he achieved the first step of his career as an IT systems administrator in 2003, making him an expert on Microsoft products today. He also has good knowledge of VMware, Unix, Network, and Security, which he uses in his daily tasks as an infrastructure architect providing insight and expertise for solutions that are requested by his company. This book is Miguel's first ever published book, and it has been an amazing and interesting adventure.

A well structured and organized book on SC Orch 2012 R2 By Daniel Thomati I find most of the information on SC Orch scattered across forums and blogs with no structure or end plan. That is why i prefer a centralized source of information on a complex product as this. This book is very well organzied not only for a simple installation guide with the best practices on the product but if you grasp the knowledge passed on by the author you will end up with a clean and easy too use piece of software as a Sys Admin in your infrastruture.I hope to see more on the other System Center products.

It’s 1882, seventeen years since the end of the American Civil War. And while the country struggles to rebuild itself and come to terms with its history and possible future, a new conflict befalls the young government. A sickness has begun consuming the country, causing those with the ailment to crave the flesh of the living. Now Tallulah, a displaced Choctaw - having been taken from her tribe and sent to become “civilized” at the Carlisle Indian School – only desires to return to her people, getting as far as possible from this new poison spreading throughout the white man’s world. But to accomplish this she must rely on the assistance and bear with the aggressions of others also desiring to find safe haven; including two former slaves who had already experienced the worst the country had to offer; overly aggressive Cavalrymen coming to terms with their own war demons; and a less than open-minded tugboat captain struggling to keep his two sons safe. Each of them trying to survive the beginning of The Great Conflagration.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great beginning to a YA fantasy series! By M.S. Valdez As the author, Justin Sloan, notes at the end of part one of this series, he took inspiration for his tale from the Peloponnesian War between Greek and Sparta. Although set in a fictional world, you immediately get the sense of that ancient conflict right from the beginning of Falls of Redemption. The story centers mainly on three characters: the boys Narcel and Lokum, who are cousins; and the girl, Kaire, whom they are attracted to. Vivid world-building and exciting battles as the boys learn to become warriors! A great coming-of-age story that will leave the reader in suspense and yearning to dive into the next chapter of the series!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. So good! By Melanie M. The first book in the Falls of Redemption series does not disappoint. Perfect YA adventure but so well written that adults will enjoy. Sloan's imagery is vivid. He puts you right in Narcel's armor as he fights for honor, respect, duty, and the love of Kaire. Thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for more!

You have in your hands THE definitive barbell strength training program for the tactical athlete. Whether you’re in the military, law enforcement, or emergency services, Tactical Barbell will give you extreme levels of functional strength. Tactical athletes are a unique breed. You need to physically operate at an extraordinarily high level in stressful situations. Often in dangerous environments. As a SWAT operator, front line soldier, or other operational athlete, you have to be a Jack of All Trades. Let’s take that a step further. You have to achieve some degree of mastery. You have to be strong, have incredible levels of endurance, and be capable of sustained bursts of intense activity. All while tired, hungry, cold, or worse. You can’t train like a bodybuilder. You can't be sore for a week after 'leg' day. You may not have time to spend hours in the gym. And unfortunately, you can’t afford to specialise like a powerlifter. After all, you have other abilities you need to develop, things like cardiovascular training, work capacity, and occupational skills. Anyone in the operational field knows it’s a constant juggling act trying to become (and stay) superhuman. So how do you achieve extreme levels of strength, while still maintaining time and energy to train your other attributes equally? This book will provide you with that answer. You will receive strength programming designed to fit in with your training and lifestyle. Periodization based, with a simple progression model that allows for a great degree of customization. You won’t find cables, balance boards or medicine balls in this program. What you will get is a reliable, repeatable cutting edge system to increase your strength dramatically. In a manner that leaves you time and energy to train all those other things you need to be good at. No fluff. No frills. If you’re in the tactical arena, you know talk is cheap. There is a built in strength testing component in this program. You will know whether or not your strength has increased, and by how much. Simple. Join the countless soldiers, mixed martial artists, personal trainers and recreational athletes across the globe taking their abilities to the next level with Tactical Barbell. Written by a twenty year veteran of the military and federal law enforcement. The author has spent a career in physically demanding units, as an infantryman, paratrooper, operator and Subject Matter Expert on a federal Hostage Rescue Team.

27 of 27 people found the following review helpful. Authentic Insider Strength Training By Lee B I did a long stint in the military, in a front line mud monkey unit. No fobbit or air force clerk here. ;)There are thousands of books that use the 'military' or 'bootcamp' angle to sell strength training. In most cases they're promoting push ups, sit ups and calisthenics, with a little lip service dumbbell training thrown in for good measure. Oftentimes with a stern looking drill sergeant or 'Gunny' screaming in the background. This is what the general public associates with military fitness through movies and the media, so it comes off as authentic.Calisthenics and cardio ARE used by the military as physical training for new recruits, because it's cheap, can be done on a mass scale, and brings everyone up to a general level of fitness. But no one's becoming extremely athletic or strong doing this alone. This type of training is also done when recruits are posted to their respective companies, battalions, units, what have you. It's good for keeping soldiers at a general level of fitness so they can perform the bare minimum. Private Fatboy loses some weight and can keep up on platoon runs, along with Johnny High School Football Hero. After being transferred to their regular post, most soldiers spend a lot of time on their own fitness. Army PT is far more cardio based and is sadly lacking in functional strength training...regular army units are still a little old fashioned that way and it's just more practical. If you doubt me just take a look at the annual physical testing in the army.I divided soldiers into three fitness categories when I used to serve:Category 1:These guys were naturally fit and lean, usually played high school or college sports, and had the least amount of issues physically at bootcamp or in the field on an exercise. Some of them would play around with weight training, but they never really delved into things in depth. Probably the majority of the guys I worked with fell in here. The backbone. I was in this category for a long time.Category 2The meatheads (one of my best friends is a meathead btw). These guys lived for getting big, muscular and pumped. They were in the gym every night in garrison hitting the bicep curls, bench press, and calf raises. Performance in the military was second to them. They wanted to look as massive and muscular as possible. They'd also be the ones sucking gas on platoon runs, the 'diesels', and would mysteriously fall sick when long field exercises came around hehe.Category 3The slight odd or OCD brigade. These were the guys that would go all out and get obsessive about things performance related. They'd be the first ones to try some new work out program, start fasting, or do kooky visualizations or meditation for performance. Like the guy in your platoon that's doing intervals with his gas mask on, on the treadmill in the base gym. Or the guy that shows up with weight in a backpack for the morning company run. Now these are also the guys that tend to trickle into tier one and two special operations units. If they were civilians, a handful of them would've ended up as professional athletes, Olympians or adventure racers. Or in asylums. This book has definitely come out of the category three camp.I have a small handful of acquaintances that I stay in touch with in the spec ops community. Their strength training absolutely mirrors what is offered in this book. This applies to their strength training only, barbell training in particular. Cardio and conditioning is a different subject. I use similar strength programs and will be switching to this, as it lays everything out in a tight, concise fashion, with proper progression. The negatives: more work out pictures would've been nice. It's a very dense book and more photos would've broken it up and made it a little easier on the eyes. There are typos here and there. In the supplement chapter I would've liked to have seen something on natural testosterone boosters, and a more in depth review on pre-work out supps. All in all this book is gold. If you want the real thing, and not commercialized 'bootcamp' programs, get this. Highly recommended.

I've been a fulltime SWAT member for over five years now, with my LE agency.I started the 'Operator' template a few months ago when the beta pdf was buzzing around on military/spec ops forums.I was doing variations on all the popular 5 x 5 type programs before that for years, but was getting stale. Frankly, I stalled out on most of my lifts fairly early and was spending too much time in the gym. Since starting TB all my lifts are up. I broke 460 on my deadlift for the first time, new PR. Team fun runs are much easier, since the template leaves me enough time and energy to train my conditioning throughout the week as promised. It took some time getting used to the longer rest intervals but the results have been worth it. I might switch templates and try the 'Gladiator' in a few months. TB is now my go-to strength system and probably will be for a very long time. A lot of guys on the team are using it now too. What I do now is kettlebell work from 'Simple and Sinister' in the mornings, and TB in the evenings or prior to my kettlebell work depending on the schedule. I find this to be the perfect combo.TB takes care of my strength and barbell work, and KBs have brought my conditioning to a new level. See my Simple and Sinister review for more. The days I'm not doing TB, I add some steady state cardio or HIIT.If you have the beta pdf, this book is actually far more fleshed out and has three new templates, easily worth the cost. Be warned, the nutrition chapter is OK, but won't be good enough stand-alone if you're looking for detailed eating advice.Overall worth every penny, especially if you're in my line of work.

I've been into functional fitness for years, crossfit, starting strength, and kettlebells. I've pretty much settled on crossfit as my baseline workout, with one big problem. Before crossfit I had really high strength levels, because of my focus on barbell programs like starting strength and 5-3-1.Crossfit's great at keeping my conditioning and muscular endurance at high levels, but I lost a lot of strength compared to what I had. I'm talking strength, not mass or muscle size. I've never cared about muscle size or bodybuilding, just real world functional strength.I could never figure out how to combine a good barbell program with crossfit, and the loss of strength had taken a big bite out of my performance.Tactical Barbell saved the day. It's based around five periodized templates, and several exercise clusters. The clusters consist of functional strength exercises like deadlifts, weighted pull ups, squats, and muscle ups. One of the templates is a two day a week program (the rest are all three) which is perfect for me. It's called the "fighter" template and is recommended for people like mixed martial artists, boxers, and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu fighters. These people need strength and power, but usually spend most of their training week practicing fight skills. Like me, they have a hard time incorporating a hardcore three day a week strength program. Yet they still need high levels of power and strength, which poses a dilemma. The two day fighter template is the answer.I've cut my crossfit down to three days a week, and I do the Tactical Barbell fighter template twice a week. It's perfect, my strength and power levels have shot up again. One telltale sign for me is my burpees are no longer flat, they have a lot of 'spring' to them. Before getting on tactical barbell, when I did burpees I felt like a sack of potatoes picking itself off the floor after a few reps. Now I feel like I'm generating some serious torque, and people have commented on the improvement. They think I'm practising extra burpees on the side, which is not the case. My muscles are getting dense and wiry too, I'm not complaining. I did my first tactical barbell one rep maximum re-test yesterday, and all my lifts have gone up. My crossfit performance has improved. I can't really ask for anything else. The only negative I have about the book is the nutrition section. It's a good read, but it doesn't really dive into the nuts and bolts around preparing an eating plan. I feel the author could have made the section longer, and written a lot more relating to calculating base caloric needs and macros. It seemed glossed over.Other than that, this has been the most effective barbell program I've personally used. I am extremely tempted to switch to a three day template like the "gladiator" or "grey man", seeing the strength gains I've been getting with just two days a week. I can't recommend it enough if you're into strength training, or have a situation similar to mine.

Wrightful Heir Prince Wright comes from a family of heroes and royal blood. His future bride has been chosen since his birth. All he needs is the powerful Sword of Truth to ascend the throne and become King of Haldor.. But the Sword of Truth chooses an ordinary man. A man long foretold to become the hero who will defeat the coming Lord of Darkness. Prince Wright is now forced to choose between two paths. Bow to the new king and swear loyalty to his reign or raise an army and become the Lord of Darkness. Excerpt: Wright slowly opened his eyes. He was no longer in the forest. He was sitting on a chair made of iron in the middle of a large room. The room was full of brightly lit torches. But the brightest light was coming from the yellow flame behind a woman looking down on him. Anger quickly rose up inside of him! The woman was none other than Wisdom, the middle incarnation of the Oracle. She was the one who declared him unfit to be king! Angry insults toward the woman came rushing out of his mind. He quickly suppressed such thoughts and emotions. Wisdom had the power to see through a man's heart and deepest thoughts. If she started reading his mind, he would be in big trouble. Wisdom’s emotionless golden-tinged grey eyes continued studying Wright. Had she heard his thoughts? If she did read his mind, she showed no sign of being affected by his blasphemous thoughts. Her words that woke up Wright earlier came back to him. Who was being possessed by darkness? He tried to rise from the chair but cold chains restrained him! His eyes widened as he realized he was tied like a common criminal in an interrogation chair! Such a chair was designed by a Solaris blacksmith several decades ago to protect the interrogators from lawbreakers who were either insane or too drunk to behave properly. The chair was made of iron as was the chains attached to it. Wright's arms were pulled behind the chair's back where a chain securely tied both his hands. Both his feet were also chained on the two front legs of the chair, severely securing and limiting his movement. Wright never once thought he would be in such a predicament. "Wright? Have you come back to your senses?" said the worried voice of his mother. Wright turned toward the direction of his mother's voice. He saw his parents standing on the right side of the room. Their faces were full of concern. The five regents were also with them. All their eyes looked at him with grave concern and fear as they kept a safe distance away from him. Only Wisdom dared to stand near him. How did he get here? Or was he really here all along? "Queen Maia, please do not touch Prince Wright. You could become tainted by the darkness," warned Wisdom. It was only then that Wright noticed his mother near him. His mother began crying. Wright felt his heart breaking as he watched his mother's tears streamed down her face. His strong and composed mother looked so frightened and helpless, and he was the cause of her tears! His father held his mother's hand and led her away from him. "There must be something we can do to drive the darkness out of our son’s body." King Saxon pleaded to the Oracle. "If we let the darkness leave Prince Wright’s body, it will only find another body to possess." Wisdom's words were cold and emotionless. "No, please! Wright is our only son!" begged Queen Maia. She fell down on her knees, shaking. Her face ashen and full of fear. "We will take care of him. Keep him locked up and guarded all the time. He won’t cause any more problems," promised King Saxon. "Mother, Father, what are you talking about?" Wright needed to know his situation. His parents both turned their eyes toward him. "Oracle, our son has regained his mind!" his father pointed out. "His eyes are no longer blank like before. "This means that he can regain control of himself and his body. That he can drive out this darkness!" argued King Saxon. "King Saxon," Wisdom’s voice was the voice of author

Longer Than It's Page Length...and Not in a Good Way By Rose While the story itself seems interesting, there is a thin line between fleshing out characters and bombarding the reader with unnecessary information. So much care is taken to background characters that only appear a few times or to situations with little impact on the story itself. Meanwhile, large chunks of information are left missing from the plot, and grammatical errors pop up frequently. The story draws out for so long with not nearly enough advancement, and the whole thing reads like a romance novel that somehow isn't. While it is clear from her reviews, both here and on Goodreads, that Mrs. Alia has a loyal fanbase, I am, unfortunately, less than impressed with Wrightful Heir. Should the novel go to print, I highly recommend having professional cover art done as well. While you cannot judge a book by it's cover, this one is painful to look at.

The characters seemed very flat despite their initial descriptions. Characters I had high hopes for in the very beginning left me disappointed by then end because there was no real fleshing out. There were lots of moments where there were obvious logic gaps and plot holes that the readers were forced to ignore in order to keep reading. Things happened, but it didn't feel organic. It felt very marched along puppet style. I just wasn't a fan, sadly. Her descriptions were quite lovely at points, and the world seemed really interesting to begin with, but nothing about the book grabbed me. There are so many five star reviews for this book saying she has written before, and she states in her intro that she previously wrote romance books. I looked but couldn't find them on Amazon. It's unfortunate because I did enjoy some of her elements, even if I did not care for this particular book. If anything else by her comes up I might give it a read. With better editing this could have been really interesting because the world is pretty unique while still being traditional fantasy.

By mmcalimoso I love this book but its more on the battle between Prince Wright and the Oracle. It will make you feel nervous because of some battle between two people who love each other. I was actually waiting for romance but then again this book is fine as it is. The good thing is there's book 2 where can I find the romance I was looking for. The adventure of the Prince will continue in book 2 and some questions will be answered there.

You can hunt down my full review on RPG.net which I posted a decade ago. Crimson Cutlass IS a brilliant RPG way ahead of its time. I cannot recommend this game highly enough. I hope they launch a Kickstarter to do a pretty version that's cleaned up and easily digestible for today's audience. So much terrific fun!

This product has been updated very well for electronic reading. The diction still feels like the original though; it's got that 1970s tone to it (compare to Gary Gygax's casual writing in Dragon magazine). The only disappointment is that this is not the whole thing! Waiting eagerly for book 2.

There are other games that are longer. There are other Pyrate games. But, there is only one Crimson Cutlass. If you are a gamer who likes great games and want to see one of the gems of the past 30 years, this is your chance. You can search pretty hard for the original and if lucky, you can find a copy. You won't be disappointed. But, if you want the chance to get a copy, here it is.Can a RPG be played with little to no prep with just the use of a deck of cards and be equal (or better) to a well planned, detailed, detailed module? The skeptical gamer might say no way, but ... believe your lying eyes. Once you play Cutlass, no other RPG will be the same.I would recommend the Universal Tarot of Marseille and Zochhi eight siders (blue) for the full effect. One word of warning. Don't travel to the new world until you know what you are doing. It's not a place for the weak of heart!

The Confessions of Arsène Lupin (Arséne Lupin), by Maurice Leblanc

Review “[Arsène Lupin] has taken his place in public estimation with Sherlock Holmes and other universally admired heroes of fictional crime.” —The New York Times“The Cyrano of the underworld.” —Jean-Paul Sartre

About the Author Maurice Leblanc (1864–1941) was best known for his tales featuring the gentleman thief Arsène Lupin. Born in Rouen, France, Leblanc was inspired by the success of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories and invented Lupin as a French adversary for the great detective. Lupin appeared in dozens of novels and short stories and was the basis for several films. Of his great antihero, Leblanc once said, “Lupin follows me everywhere. He is not my shadow. I am his shadow.”

The previous books were all book length series but this time the book is composed of short stories a single chapter long. Each story is self contained mystery for Lupin to solve. The character feels more like a detective like Sherlock Holmes or genius like Prof. Augustus S. F. X. Van Dusen. This may be my favorite Lupin collection yet. Some of the longer novels could get quite complicated with all the intrigue and it wasn't uncommon for me to get lost. I like these bite sized stories and some of them could get quite riveting for instance The Infernal Trap where Lupin is bound tightly to a bed and death seems inevitable.

It is a series of stories that are a combination of mystery and farce, with the stereotypical police force that is almost competent. The protagonist, Arsene Lupin, is not the super competent detective but the criminal. No complicated plots, no graphic violence. A good, easy read.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Classic reading By Joerg Grimm A great classic. What I enjoy is the description of the usage of then new technology like telegraph, electricity, cars. And the wonderfully old-fashioned view of things. Its entertaining, phantastic, and a little lesson in history.
