If you are comfy with just recycling your soda cans and want to continue to believe that your children and grandchildren will have roughly the same experience with this planet as you have had, then this book and the rest of the Percipience series may not be for you. Through this fast paced eco-fiction series, the author lightly touches on key points of our relationship with the planet and the growing urgency for each of us to take action to avoid a much darker future for our children. The story line of 2022, revolves around a world-wide threat made by an eco-terrorist organization and the efforts to stop them while at the same time setting up a large scale experiment for sustainable living. The book combines murder, espionage, romance and revenge into the fictional story while exploring the urgency of global issues we face in real life. This book, along with the others in the Percipience series are not just meant to entertain and to raise awareness of important issues. This future is exacerbated by the return of cold-war-like tensions, sophisticated terrorist organizations, and new controls on information flow. He believes he knows what needs to be done to reverse the trend, but can it be achieved in time, even with the resources at his disposal? Should he turn to terrorism to make it work? And if he's wrong, and his plan backfires, will it mean the end of most, or all, of the human race?

Chilling Read that Takes Aim at the Most Pressing Issue of Our Time By Andrea Davis 2022 is a work of fiction, but it is not hard to imagine it as reality in our near future. The author crafts a taut thriller that balances a lot of spinning plates. There are global ramifications at stake, the future of our planet as we know it. The writing is clear and concise with attention to detail and research into scientific concepts and terminology. The characters are well formed and feel three-dimensional. Some of the players are cunning and mysterious while others are much more forthright. The dialogue they share is rapid-fire and white hot. This adds to the gravity of the stakes. Full of suspense and intrigue, this is an excellent starter for the series and I can’t wait to read more. Fantastic!

Fast paced and thought provoking By Michael Nail for gimmethatbook This review originally appeared on my blog at [...]Thanks to the author for gifting me this review copy!2022 is a fast paced, thought provoking read. Basically, the world is running out of resources and one man thinks he has the solution. His ideas have validity, but is there something more sinister going on under the surface? The plot is easy to believe; we are experiencing this right now, with all the furor over greenhouse gas, oceans full of plastic, and food shortages. Also very believable is the giant organization that is monitoring and disseminating information–they appear to be benign, but that is also a concern lurking just below the surface. As I read, I found nothing that would strain my credulity. I even believed that there would be hundreds of people willing to sign up to go live in one of the remote “villages” that was being constructed under the guise of saving the planet. I would liked to have seen more of the inner workings of the villages, but they were in the process of being built. I’d be interested to see how the Elders managed their people and if they would be as fair as they claimed they would be.There are three strong women, Diane, Sue and Olivia, as main characters. Each of them have their own personality and foibles; I had to laugh about the idea of no makeup or coffee being a deal breaker for village living! There is also a professional killer who is, surprisingly, a woman. This adds an interesting twist to the story, as Hope (the killer) can befriend the other women and not tip her hand. She’s a true chameleon.Richard, who wants the villages built for his own agenda, is a great characterization of a megalomaniacal genius. There is no problem that money can’t solve for him; but does he really want the planet saved? Or just saved on his terms? The twist at the ending sets up book two perfectly. The best part about 2022 is how it makes you think. There is the obligatory population killing virus, and double crosses galore (and a few surprises), but I enjoyed reading about how the world is being affected, conveyed through normal plot advancement. The author takes this subject very seriously, and even provides a few appendixes at the end of the book, explaining his thought process.Overall, the message comes through loud and clear without being too preachy. Anyone reading this will come away with more information that they didn’t even know was lacking in their mind, and hopefully, they will practice some of the suggestions put forth by Kroes. This truly is an issue that affects us all.Want your own copy? You can pick it up here.

The world is not the same and the government scrutinizes everything you look at, all of your search engines and decides if you are going against what you have been given access. Within this world there are many who feel that we are abusing our planet and depleting our resources. Within this book you will meet many different people whose ideologies and outlook will conflict as this eco-fiction series takes off with a murder geared at waking up the public to what this organization called CURE feels needs to be addressed as one man is killed and others will follow. Are you abusing the planet and do we need to take action? What about the future of our planet and our children?Meet the people of CURE and learn more about the organization that is used as their cover or umbrella. This organization is well hidden and the work they are doing to create a virus that would kill millions yet hoping to store it safely upon needed, will terrify the reader as you learn more about this eco-terrorist group and how they set up a large scale experiment for what they claim is sustainable living. The Percipience is the place or city where they will house the virus and somewhere in Africa there are people that will be vaccinated if needed. As we hear the voices of the people of this group and learn about their organization we witness the murder of a man named Mikhail by a young girl so well disguised you would never know she was a woman. Within this organization there is a man named Richard who developed this virus, hires those who will work on it and it is his master plan that another organization called the DIR will have to stop. The information highway is vast and the way data is processed unique. Would you want a chip implanted in you, or phone or credit card that would allow the government to know your every move? What happens when you try to hide but can’t. As the sister of this man who was killed accesses his laptop and information she learns about the virus and falls prey to their ad. One phone call could put Diane in jeopardy as Hope the girl who killed her brother is able to access her burn phone, triangulate her location, meet with her friend Gwen hoping to snare her.The Preservation of Faith is the organization and Olivia is about to enter into something that just might not be what she expected. Listening to Richard as the author flashes back to his planning with Mikhail, you learn of his intentions, the areas where he wants sites and the amount of people that will be housed there and their purpose for being there. Olivia is concerned about her friend’s murder not realizing that the people she works for are responsible as the sister of the victim, Diane, decides to become part of this group possibly uncovering the harsh truth. But, Mikhail is smart, astute and Hope even smarter as they realize that Diane is just the candidate they want for their project.Within DIR we meet Sue and her new partner Spencer who is about to learn more about these people when attending what the author calls The Colonies to learn more about their work and hopefully plant a device on one of their computers to learn more. But, this is not an ordinary organization and people are hired, as spies and their capabilities to funnel and get information is mindboggling. Recapping the events and how Olivia became part of this project and making the virus will help engage readers further into the story. The flashbacks help tell the background story and the author shares his thoughts on why CURE is becoming so powerful, just how it is linked to Preservation of Life and how dangerous their ideologies are and if DIR can stop them. But, someone is wise to Spencer’s visit and when he tries to access a computer and plant his bug the surprise is anything but what is expected. As Olivia relates her work and meets with Hope to share a trailer she hopes to learn more about Virtuesh a vaccine which is a derivative of the H1N5 Virus, how it will be maintained and why once she joins the team she can never return home. This vaccine if stored the right way can survive two hundred years or more. There are builders who sign up for a year and residents for life. No one is allowed to bring anything but the personal effects that they are told and no one can share what is happening in these sites which there are four in all. Virtuesh and its vaccine are about done and Olivia has been charged with creating more. The Pleasant Belief Foundation is looking to hire people with different skills like researchers like Diane and Olivia. Their main concern is the current state of the planet.Imagine living by the rules set out by someone who decides what you wear, eat, own and how you live. Would you sign up for a lifetime living somewhere without the normal conveniences in life and no real way to leave on your own? CURE’s threat is serious and the DIR wants to get more about their environment information. But, those behind it have another agenda and hoping to keep the residents at bay and under the control of the group they named The Elders would make sure that the people living there would never question anything. Richard’s plan is to have four villages that would operate “ as experiments in sustainable living.” The world’s eight billion people would destroy the planet. So, Mikhail has an alternate plan and here is where things get dangerous and you begin to wonder what the real motive behind the plan is and what he intends to accomplish. Mikhail’s plan involves more people and like-minded people. He developed a virus or as he calls it Viruesh-B and it is dangerous if released. Did he want to obliterate everyone? What is his reasoning and how would this work with the population in each village and why? While Diane is given the tests needed to enter the program and be a part of it, she never expects that she will be given certain rights that others are not. Wanting to settle her business and take her own RV it is surprising that they allow her to drive up on her own. But, what they have planned for her and her plan are two different things. Hoping to learn about her brother’s death and why he was killed she enters this job not without fear. When learning more about the virus Olivia is able to get time to work in the lab to develop more. But, why? The DIR now has to learn more about the Pleasant Belief Foundation and why they need to stop CURE. They disrupt oil refineries, and placed explosives where they could co the most harm and the DIR or Department of Information Retrieval formed in 2018 was set up so that there would be a “ single organization, with no vested interest anywhere responsible for providing data on any topic to other government divisions. Curtail Unnecessary Resource Exploitation: CURE: the eco-terrorist group is at the helm and now Internet information in this new era and time or the Internet Information Protection Act or ITPA was put into place to make prevent access to any data movement from Internet sites “without proper authorization while still allowing for e-commerce and some types of social media. Within the chapter titled planning you hear the voices of both Richard the creator and Mikhail and I can’t help thinking the concept and what they plan is chilling. Imagine being forced into what you might think if you really look closer and hard slavery of a different type. People that have to complete tasks, have no control over who they mate with and Genetic Pairing according to specific traits. The author through Mikhail and Richard explains on pages 45- 54 the rationale behind their thinking.Creating the responsibilities of the Elders and explaining how he wants the villages to be run you begin to wonder why these people decided to live there, go along with his plan and accept everything he says. When Sue learns that Spencer, her new partner is missing and learns that he was held by the people in the Colony, she immediately inquires, tells him to remain and with the help of Olivia he learns more and even obtains a vile of the deadly virus. But, just how are these villages or sites learning or going to be self-contained? What and where would their food supply come from? The more you learn the more bone chilling it is and the more you wonder just how this man was able to create something that brainwashed so many into submission. But, the government was alert and colonies were closed for infractions and laws that were broken and how did a strange new strain of flu come about and the tensions were rising and just where would the next crisis come from? CURE stuck to its word and posted the results of consumption from the industrialized countries and punished the top ten by hacking into the central computers and changing the host –country codes. Just how you will learn when you read page 122 and how can they be stopped when social media outlets, phones and charge card transactions are stopped. How far will CURE go to make a point? Leaks, lies, betrayals, flu that came from where and someone within their organization that is expendable. As the final scene comes into play and all of the players are revealed what will happen if the virus is released? Who is really behind the plot and why? What happens at the end will mystify and surprise readers as one man’s plan comes to fruition as truths become realities, lies become facts and 2022 takes on a whole new light as the end just might be near but for who?As Sue, Olivia and Diane rush to stop the virus from being released someone else just might have other ideas. The Percipience Series has just begun and what happens next will continue in 2222 the next installment. But, first read the information in the Appendices at the end of the book as the author shares some interesting research and information. Would you want you life controlled by someone else? 2022: is this your kind of world? Characters that are well developed, a story line that is fast paced and the end result frightening to say the least. Will the plan that someone devised backfire or will it go off as planned? Read this thought provoking book and you decide whether this is the only way to safe the planet!Four and a half stars
