About the Author Frederik Pohl (1919-2013) was one of science fiction's most important authors. Among his many novels are "Gateway", which won the John W. Campbell Memorial Award, the Hugo Award, the Locus SF Award, and the Nebula Award, "Beyond the Blue Event Horizon", which was a finalist for the Hugo and Nebula Awards, and "Jem", which won the 1980 National Book Award in Science Fiction. He also collaborated on classic science fiction novels including "The Space Merchants" with Cyril M. Kornbluth. Pohl was an award-winning editor of "Galaxy "and "If", a book editor at Bantam, and served as president of the Science Fiction Writers of America. He was named a Grand Master of Science Fiction by SFWA in 1993, and was inducted into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame.

A Classic of 1950s Science Fiction By Elliot This novelette is, without exaggeration, one of the best pieces of science fiction written in the 1950s. It is at once a scathing satire on our advertising-dominated consumer culture, a frightening piece of urban paranoia, and an exploration of the nature of reality (prefiguring the 1960s works of Philip K. Dick). Don't miss this one.

Pojl does a great job of getting in digs against advertising and the alt-reality definitely has a PKD feel. I've downloaded a bunch of other free PKD stories from Amazon. This book was just as great. Now to see what other Pohl is in the public domain.Ignore the 1-star review. This is a great story and should not be poorly reviewed due to unscrupulous sellers.
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great read By Joe Dahlin I enjoyed reading this short tale with a great twist! The main character is easy to empathize with and the story line is enthralling. I would recommend this story for all ages.
