Short and Steamy By JH This is a short work that introduces us to a series about people snatched from today's world and sent to the future to help repopulate a decimated world. The future world contains not only humans, but also shifters, vampires and cyborgs.The main character in this book, Andrea, is forced to face, and ultimately embrace, her true nature ... one she can barely imagine. As the action raced to the end, I wished the book was longer, because now my interest is piqued and I want to know what happens next.

Steamy & short By Kristy Heinicke I just got finished reading 'The Mating Challenge' book 2 of the "Vanished" series, which is a spin off of Jami's PBI File Case series, more specifically episode 3 'Lost Plane'. I would advise reading the "PBI File Case" series first, then book 1 of the "Vanished" series, before starting 'The Mating Challenge'.If waking up years into the future to re-populate the human population, wasn't bad enough..... Andrea has escaped the underground colony only to be attacked by werewolves within hours, she awakens to be told she has the gene & must undergo the Mating Challenge. Six werewolf Alpha's fight for the chance to mate with Andrea, but only three make it into the next round.I really enjoyed this story, it gave you an idea about what's happening on the surface of Earth, even though you only get a glimpse of it in this book. My only wish was that the book was longer, as it felt like I'd only just started, then I was finished. I can't wait for book 3 of the series.

I liked the way the author lets the world's meet, yet she sends characers off in different directions, to different time lines, and independent fates.This episode in the paranormal series allows the author more time and space for he characters to further develop and obtain a soul.I liked this ok and highly recommend you read it!

I've been using Swagbucks for awhile but I have to say that the author's suggestion is appealing. I plan on trying it out.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Omg, zombies, degenerates, Cullen & Phoenix!!! Enough said! By Book Addict 619 I received an ARC of this book for an honest review. I had some questions from the first book Into The Darkness & luckily they were addressed in this book. Like I had mentioned in book one I had some parts that weren't believable to me concerning Ike & how he handled the outbreak & getting to his family. That was addressed here during Ike's POV this helped me to see into the mindset of this character that I had such high expectations of. Thank you for that Kira, I really appreciate how things were addressed & settled. As we follow these characters through their determination to survive from the zombies, degenerates & the breakdown of the American society we get more information on their pasts. I know I kind of questioned how Phoenix was so badass off the bat in Into The Darkness & why there wasn't a meltdown. Slowly learning about the characters past it all started to make sense to me. Seeing her being badass in Emerging From Darkness but also seeing her have an emotional breakdown & struggle through some heavy emotions solidified her growth to me. This book was emotional almost immediately off the bat with it picking up right where the first book left off with Ike, Cullen, & Forest being held hostage & about to be executed by the Degenerates. We loose Forester to the Degenerates & when we do here is where we see Ike & Cullen's badass military skills come into play. So as I'm crying over the loss of Forester, I was cheering on Ike & Cullen. Kira really pulled out a lot of emotion in this book, there was some serious loss, some strides in finding a cure. & of course tons of action. Some of the Degenerates finally get what's coming to them but just when we think that there may be a happily ever after. We are thrown for a loop & left with a cliffy!!! One doozy of a cliffy! So this one is a so,I'd 4 stars for me & I can NOT wait to read the next book & find out what the heck happened that led to the cliffhanger.

There’s a virus that is turning everyone into a zombie and the prisons have been let loose and that group calls themselves Degenerates. This doesn’t make for a very friendly world. Add in the fact that Phoenix seems to have something everyone wants, and you’re in for a world of deceit and treachery. The only people she has to rely on are Cullen, Ike, and Rian.I still really like all these characters and am afraid of what’s happening next. I will say that there were a few surprises that I didn’t expect, but no tears. YAY go me! This isn’t the end of the series. It ends on a cliffhanger. And I’m not sure when the next book in the series will come out. So if that’s a deal breaker for you, then you heard it here. I wish I could say something because as I think of what to say, it’s going to be a spoiler of some sort. I will say that I found the writing more tight in this second book than in the first. I also enjoyed it more. I think it’s the investment of the characters.Ms. Adams writes a very interesting story about the zombie apocalypse. It’s been done, yet not. I also like her characters. They are all tough but not impervious and are vulnerable. I mentioned before that I’d avoided reading her stories because I’ve been told that they’ll turn a person into a blubbering mass of jello, and I don’t like blubbering or jello. But so far this series, I’ve been fairly safe. I’m glad that I risked the chance. So would I recommend this book? I would. If you’re not one for cliffhangers, then I think you should wait until the series is complete. If not, go out and get Into the Darkness first, then this one.

Emerging from Darkness is the very definition of "What else could go wrong" and it shouldn't be Emerging more like Submerging to the Darkness. Now don't let this stop you from reading, because what someone doesn't like others might enjoy.

They also ignore her grandfather's visions even though they have come true in the past. The characters are well developed. They react realistically to a life changing new world. I look forward to reading more stories by this author.

I was extremely fascinated and captivated by the characters and storyline.Rob and Cat are an awesome duo (sort of Duo because Cat is really leading the show!) as they encounter monsters and make their way through amazing settings. Castles and forests and Scotland--come on! I was so immersed in this story that I felt like I was following behind them. Teresa's writing is dark, gorgeous and layered--you won't regret taking this journey!The one flaw you'll probably find with this book is that it doesn't have a movie deal---yet. : )

The setting is beautiful and magical Scotland By Kaffy The setting is beautiful and magical Scotland, where mythical creatures thrive alongside humans. The story is compelling and enchanting, with characters who each has their own unique personalities, that you can't help but fall in love with. Teresa is very good at painting pictures in your head as you read, and you can't help but feel like you are on the adventure with the characters.Each chapter ends with suspense, and it was difficult for me to put the book down! I just couldn't stop reading. I'm a picky reader but this is a book I know I'll be reading more than once.If you're up for a good read and ready to fall in love, I highly recommend this!

About the Author Kazuo Koike is a prolific Japanese manga writer, novelist and entrepreneur. Early in Koike's career, he studied under Golgo 13 creator Takao Saito and served as a writer on the series. Koike, along with artist Goseki Kojima, made the manga Kozure Okami (Lone Wolf and Cub), and Koike also contributed to the scripts for the 1970s film adaptations of the series, which starred famous Japanese actor Tomisaburo Wakayama. Koike and Kojima became known as the "Golden Duo" because of the success of Lone Wolf and Cub. Another series written by Koike, Crying Freeman, which was illustrated by Ryoichi Ikegami, was adapted into a 1995 live-action film by French director Christophe Gans. The author lives in Tokyio, Japan.

Glass Even though I had not expected it to happen, I have been waiting for New Lone Wolf and Cub a long time. I had already been a huge fan of author Kazuo Koike and artist Goseki Kojima’s “Baby Cart” samurai saga for decades. I had enjoyed the samurai cinema of Akira Kurosawa and others since college in the ‘60’s, but the screenwriter Koike’s Baby Cart series during the ‘70’s were something different. They featured Ogami Itto, a ronin assassin, pushing his son Daigoro through feudal Japan in baby cart with both his blade and his son for hire as death stalks them every second. Ogami Itto is framed man (marked for death by the shogun) who wants to clear his name and save his son. Besides learning about life and death through Daigoro’s eyes as Ogami Itto cuts a swath through the Yagyu ninja clan which had framed him, the six Baby Cart films introduced me to slasher samurai cinema. Limbs flew, blood splashed, and skulls were bisected with gusto [tastefully] while young Daigoro stoically learned the disciple of Bushido. Ogami Itto battles through overwhelming odds many times in each film. I tried to see as much of the series as I could. It wasn’t until AnimEigo brought out a DVD boxed set of the series in 2003 that I could be sure that I’d seen all of the Baby Cart films in their proper order. Even so I felt I did not know the whole story. While back in downtown LA for jury duty in the early ‘80’s I discovered the entire Action Comics 14 volume collection of Lone Wolf and Cub in a Japanese book store. I still cannot read Japanese, but I could follow the story like watching the films without subtitles and I had the complete story arc. Between 2000 and 2002, Dark Horse finally published an English translation of the entire Lone Wolf and Cub saga in 28 volumes. Since artist Goseki Kojima had passed and the series had a “happy Japanese ending” [almost everyone dies], I thought that was the end. Imagine my pleasant surprise to discover this year that there has been a new series of Lone Wolf and Cub in translation since last year on Amazon. There are 5 volumes out already out with volume 6 due in September, volume 7 due in December, and volume 8 coming out March 2016. The size of this new series is between the larger Action Comics run in Japanese and the Dark Horse “Big Little Book” run in translation. Kazuo Koike, like the previous manga and the movies , is still the creative mind expanding the life of Daigoro beyond his father’s death. Hideki Mori is the new artist who continues the saga drawing on the spiritual guidance of Goseki Kojima’s art on the original series. In fact, Koike shares creative credit equally with both Mori and Kojima on this new series. This time the translation does not flip the artwork so it is read right-to-left, back-to-front like its publication in Japan. Does the story live up to the original? Daigoro’s new guardian is Togo Shigekata, a master of Jigen-ryu style from the Satsuma clan, who carries a dotanuki sword as did Ogami Itto until his death. He meets Daigoro standing over the bodies of his father and Retsudo Yagyu, aids the boy in cremating the bodies which both the pro-shogun and anti-shogun factions do not dare do without starting a civil war, and takes him under his wing. The Shogun’s forces wants to dissolve the Satsuma clan and take over its wealth. Keeping Daigoro and himself alive while wanting to save the Satsuma clan keeps Togo Shigekata busy as the reader finds the tale a compulsive page turner. The twists, the turns, and the precipitated blood baths add up as Togo earns Daigoro’s trust and begins to intensively train the child in swordsmanship. One of the things I learned when reading the Dark Horse translation of the original series over two years is that one volume is not enough. I’ve started the new series by getting the first four volumes – about a third of the series. Below is the last volume of the original Dark Horse edition and the first Dark Horse edition of the new series. Under the covers are the last two b&w pages of the first saga and the first two b&w pages of the new series [reading right to left] so that you can see that, for Daigoro, no time has passed. YES! Koike’s narrative powers remain as strong as ever. Mori’s detailed art compliment’s the detailed research of the Edo period in Koike’s scripts. Some of Togo’s Satsuma dialect may be hard to follow at first so make good use of the footnotes and glossary at the back of the books to ease into it. You won’t believe the suffering both good guys and bad put themselves through to satisfy the needs of honor or greed.Shin Kozure Ookami’s run of 11 volumes is complete from Shogakukan in Japan which means New Lone Wolf and Cub should be complete from Dark Horse in America by the end of 2016. I’m in it for the long haul. Won’t you join me?

So far the overall story isn't as epic as the original, but I do find myself sad when I finish up one volume and must wait for the next. Fans of the original series will enjoy the new series. The story and art is top notch.

I gained some good understandings of grounding, why it’s important for my life and ways to get grounded. Its clear, easy to follow approach allowed me to practice the outlined techniques immediately where I was in my home. I loved the test too! It really worked for me and now I’m playing with the test for many things in my life. I’m also using the grounding techniques during my work day. We live under stress all the time, we're not anymore in real contact with nature, so it's really difficult to stay grounded. In this book, we understand easily what being grounded means, how to test it and finally, how to be goruned if we weren't! I really recommend this book:)

I loved her Breeder series, and knew this one was going to be a winner. And I was not disappointed!Combine Cara’s impeccable writing with a fantastic, “draw you in and make you want to stay up all night reading” kind of plot, along with awesome characters, and you have a story that you can’t put down.I loved the whole premise of women (Sharona) on one side versus men (Lahon); it kind of reminded me of Xena. Reena, the Queen’s daughter, was an amazing, strong character I absolutely had to root for! I loved her!And Garat, the leader of the Lahon was so hot, strong, alpha male; an awesome depiction of man at his best. I adored him.But my biggest reaction came from watching the bad guy (I won’t say who it is, so I don’t spoil any early reading). This was a bad guy that I LOVED to hate!I poured through this story as fast as I could, while also going slow enough to not miss anything.It was such a thrilling ride, filled with awesome romance, hot sex, a great plot with lots of twists and turns, truly good “good guys”, and reeeeeeeally bad “bad guys”.I cannot wait to read the next book when it comes out.

The Sharona women are strong (think Xena Warrior Princess) but the one thing they need for their race to survive is men. Of course, only sparingly and only when they are overcome with libidinal fever, which is their strong urge to procreate. The men, the Lahon, have their village and the women have another and never the twain shall meet until an essential, life-sustaining element puts both their tribes at risk.Reena is a fantastically feisty heroine and the perfect counter-match for the hero, Garat. The push and pull of these two flawed humans and societies highlight the eternal battle between men and women.As usual there was so much tension, I might have skipped ahead to find out what was going to happen!Oh and there is a deliciously evil villain who will surprise you for sure.I can’t wait for the next book in this trilogy.I highly recommend this book!

This is just the start of this wonderful new tale from Cara Bristol. Proving that true love and soulmates can overcome almost all obstacles and triumph over evil.Definitely a five star read that will have you cheering on Reena and Garat as they discover each other and a new way of life for the Sharona and Lahon, while hoping that the evil doesn't win. This was one story that was hard to put down and I can't wait for more in the series.I received an ARC for an honest review.

The characterizations and setting are both excellent, and as always with the Iron Kingdoms, you learn a bit more about the world and various cultures in it as you go. This was a very entertaining story that I would recommend to almost anybody interested in an action story.

Pero éste no lo es. Si uno quiere saltar a otro capítulo tiene que pasar página por página, y si no se ha acordado de poner una marca de página allí desde donde saltó, también tendrá que volver página por página. Además cada más o menos media página hay una especie de numeración inútil con una retahila de símbolos, de lo más molesto. Por último, aunque no lo puedo probar, me da la impresión, por la sintaxis y alguna palabra, de que el texto ha sido traducido del inglés, en lugar del italiano. Desde luego el traductor no se molesta en aclararlo.Una chapuza.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Crow Girls! By MsMerricat Crow Girls! My very favorite people! Thank you Charles DeLint for this little gift of Crow Girl stories. I do love Newford and its denizens but the Crow Girls are a guaranteed draw. Some of these I had read other places but the perk to this is that you have some very nice Crow Girl stories all in one place. There is also an excerpt from his book Someplace to be Flying and that is one of my favorites. If you get this Kindle book (and you should) you should put STBF next on your list because you will want more of the Crow Girls and Raven all of DeLint's people.

Nice collection, but don't make it your intro to the Newford world of de Lint By Derek Rivard I like Charles de Lint a lot, and the Crow Girls have always been some of my favorite characters from his universe of Newford, the oh-so-desirable city to live in in imaginary Canada. I love de Lint's ability to weave urban into his fantasy in a way that is credible and not cheesy, like fiction based on Shadowrun or similar mixing of faerie with high tech and urban settings. I'd highly recommend this work, but I would also strongly suggest you pick a point to begin reading de Lint's work (mine was the wonderful "Memory and Dream") and then read forward in time, because for some reason he does not read nearly as well in his early works. What becomes familiar moving forward seems cheesy and forced in works like "Yarrow" for example. And also, I limit this review to four stars because as much as I love his work, de Lint has become somewhat predictable in the last 8 years or so. His novels almost all follow a predictable narrative pattern, and sometimes the familiar is welcome, it's just boring or trite or both. Don't start your journey with "The Crow Girls" as it really doesn't stand alone that well without having met them before in their Newford roles. But definitely do read this pleasant short work, you won't regret it.

Now! - Read Crow Girls, in the Before By Sally Adler Well, I put 'some' violence and sexual content, but not like we generally think of it. De Lint often writes, poetically, lovingly, about the struggles of women who were abused as children. So the violence isn't present, isn't graphic, but a young person reading it would need to have an adult help them understand what the pain, and continuing struggles are about. But so worth every word. And the Crow Girls! Oh, the Crow Girls! They are healing embodied, and joy.

His ideas are easily possible with existing technology, or nearly so. And that is equally wonderful and terrifying.If you've been following Doctorow on Boingboing, twitter, or his posts on Publishers Weekly, you know he's been experimenting with Self Publishing. Selfpub/epub/newpub is looking more and more to be the way of the future, and what better way to figure out how it all works than to dive in, head first? Alright, maybe not head first, as Doctorow has been publishing his writings under creative commons with everything downloadable on his website for years now.Some of these stories made me chuckle. Many of them caused my jaw to drop and my eyes to get all big and a thin whisper of "Holy ****" to escape my mouth. All of them made me think. And that, I believe, is the point.Every entry in With a Little Help is a gem. Here are my thoughts on a few of them:Epoch - Odell Vyphus is a lowly sysadmin. Maybe not so lowly, as he's in charge of keeping BIGMAC running. The year is 2037 or, and BIGMAC is a burly, 32bit, old school AI with a penchant for Mycroft Holmes and Hal9000 jokes. And he's a dinasour. BIGMAC eats a ton of energy, kicks out too much heat, no one has published a paper on him in years, and grad students are bored with him. Wait, why am I calling BIGMAC a "he"? BIGMAC is a fancy schmancy computer. Definitely an "it", not a "he". Odell also has a bad habit of anthropomorphizing talking computers. And BIGMAC has developed a bad habit of running a killer endgame. How do you kill a computer that doesn't want to die? If it's not alive, are you really killing it? How do you reconcile a very human reaction to an artificial construct that is begging for its life?Scroogled - plainly put, this story scared the **** of out me. In this near future, Google is completely transparent about the fact that your search histories never die, adwords can be used to predict future behavior, personality profiles can be built via your blogspot connect friends, youtube searches, your picasa uploads and your gmail contact list. The US government could really use a hand with "Doing Search Right", and a deal is brokered. The technology has existed for years for this to be non-fiction. Do you remember everything you've ever googled and every picture you've ever viewed on someone's Picasa or saved in your GoogleDocs? Google does. Think about that for a minute, and realize nothing is stopping the Google Guys from waking up one day and deciding your search history is worth a pretty penny.

I have no need to buy Doctorow books because I always read his public domain versions. Therefore, this is the 4th or 5th book I've bought at retail. He has a feature where libraries and schools can ask for donations, I've done that a few times. Otherwise I think of someone to send one to. I really respect his "putting his money where his mouth is" with his experiments in how to build a just and workable and free publishing system for this real world. I purchased this particular book especially because it is another experiment and I want to put my money there.About the book. Doctorow is an excellent writer. Excellent in technical skill and craft. He always has interesting plots, good characters, and important, timely information. I get a lot of my now/near future culture grok from him. I love reading his work.I picked this book out of my phone's library last night because I don't care as much for short stories, and I thought I'd read one or two and get to sleep at a decent time. I think it was about 4am before I forced myself to put it down. And then finished it today. Always interesting.

By Dizzy Littlething An interesting and different unasked for gender transformation story, with plenty discoveries and insights. A peak at what it is to be transgendered from someone who did not start out that way. While the transformation is unasked for and unwilling this is Not a "Forced Fem" book and all that usually means. Filled with reactions of interaction with family, friends and coworkers and his own feelings as he becomes a she. What does "he" tell people? Can "he" stop it? can "she" change back? can "she" live with it? How and why did this happen? It is intriguing journey as follow the protagonist's quest to answer these questions and more. All to the background of being a researcher in to aboriginal tribes and a university professor, plus all that entails.Overall, an entertaining and thought provoking read.

About the Author Kevin Siegel is the founder and president of IconLogic, Inc. He has written hundreds of step-by-step computer training books on applications such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe RoboHelp, Adobe Presenter, Adobe Technical Communication Suite, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, QuarkXPress, and TechSmith Camtasia Studio. Kevin spent five years in the U.S. Coast Guard as an award-winning photojournalist and has nearly three decades experience as a print publisher, technical writer, instructional designer, and eLearning developer.
