Dissapointing fourth chapter of a good series By Amazon Customer I enjoyed reading Mr Nuttalls first three Ark Royal books, but this last one, I was terribly disappointed. The premise of the story had real potential, however I only got to page 193 before I could no longer take reading this "book"... I found it to be too slow, bad job of character development, military rank structure not accurate (Corporal outranks a Sergeant), a civilian is given the rank of Commander and made the XO of a warship is quite a stretch even for sci-fi (page 29 where the admiral gave her the formal rank), the story line just doesn't work out well, the reader can not envision himself/herself as being part of the story, and frankly I don't really care nor do I want to be told that the Captain is gay - many many times, ad nauseam. I could go on and on with my comments.I really hate to say this, but unless Mr Nuttall improves his story telling, reads up on the military a little and tries to incorporate it into his books so as to make it a little bit more believable, and reverts back to the style of his first three Ark Royal books I'm afraid this is where we part ways.

Had great characters, solid story line, was a good read. I would recommend those first three stories in the series to all readers. I have very much enjoyed other novels this Author has published.Not so with this fourth installment of Ark Royal that begins a whole new story Ark.We have done Space Pirates. We have done Stockholm syndrome. We have done technology meets Scaly Birdman with sharp teeth and no technology. I have read 100's of Scifi books these past few years and there is nothing original in this fourth Installment when it comes to story depth. What demographic was the author targeting with this fourth Installment?I would work on character development and more depth in the story line.This is the first negative review I have posted here in Amazon.

I'm about halfway through and feeling like I wasted 4.99. I'm getting frustrated by the constant repeating of the same phrases over and over. Something is just not clicking here. First three Ark Royal books I'm a fan of and have already reread once. This one, I feel I will struggle to finish. I will update once I've finished the book, if I can finish it.Still unable to convince myself this is the same author. Its like there has been a giant step backwards in style, imagination, and ability.
