Review "Steel & Stone by far is one of my favorite series of 2015! Ms. Annette has done an AMAZING job surprising me in each installment with a new twist into this epic world!" - Pandora's Opened Box"I just love this YA urban fantasy series! This whole series has a wonderful world, with wonderful characters, tons of action, interesting magic, and some romance. I have devoured all of these books and find them incredibly hard to put down." - Hidden in Pages "It is the most adventurous series of the paranormal romance genre that I have read in a long time. This is not a laid back, let things unveil, type novel, but a get in your face, let's rock and roll, kick butt heroine action packed ride. This story is seriously unique in it's approach, and I've read many series and books under this genre." - The Bookend Family"I was DYING to get my hands on this book ... I will definitely be reading anything else Annette Marie comes out with! So delighted to find a new author!" - BookAngel

Such a fast-paced read (like the rest of the Steel & Stone Books).Piper had an uphill battle ahead of her after losing her apprenticeship and having her Consul burned down just after her arrival. She learns the Gaians plans and why they are so interested in keeping her alive. She is also reunited with Lyre and Ash (and can we take a minute and thank Annette Marie for not exploring a love triangle? Piper has too much going on for that) and they team up again to face their challenges. We also get some questions answered that I kept wondering about in previous books (Who is Vejovis? Will Piper learn to control her magic? What kind of Heamon/Daemon hybrid is Piper?)The ending though. Oh the ending. I'm very glad there is a 4th book in this series or I don't know how to handle the cliff-hanger!Overall, this was a great book and it is probably my favorite of the series. I like questions answered and this book did a good job getting the story moving forward while at the same time tying up loose ends. I don't typically rate books 5 stars but I can't find any flaws in this one! Can't wait for Reap the Shadows!

I just love this YA urban fantasy series! This whole series has a wonderful world, with wonderful characters, tons of action, interesting magic, and some romance. I have devoured all of these books and find them incredibly hard to put down.Piper returns from boarding school only to have her home Consulate burnt down around her. When she wakes up she finds that she has been kidnapped by her mother and the Gaians. The Gaians want to unlock Piper’s sealed magic and offer Piper the chance to help lead the Gaians in a rebellion against the Consulate. However when the seal on Piper’s magic is broken things don’t go as planned and her very life is at stake. Now Piper and crew must go on a quest to find a healer who can help her control her magic. It’s a quest that will answer many questions about Piper’s past. This has been such an excellent series. I love the characters, the world, and the magic. The book is incredibly easy to read and super hard to put down.I will admit a bit part of what makes this book wonderful is Piper’s relationship with Ash, the Draconian. Ash is still such a mystery and such an interesting character. The scenes between the two of them are absolutely engrossing and captivating.Piper is an amazing character as well. She goes through many trials and much pain in this book, but some of things we learn about her abilities and past are amazing. This is one of those series where things just get more and more interesting the longer you read it.I love this world with Earth, an Overworld, and an Underworld. This book expands on our understanding of these planes of existence. You find out more history behind this world and behind the conflict between the Overworlders and the Underworlders. The action scenes are amazingly written; it’s so easy to picture what is happening and the story is absolutely edge-of-your-seat engaging. Additionally there is a lot of humor in here and witty dialogue that make the book very entertaining.Overall this is just a perfect urban fantasy read. This book is a perfect blend of interesting world-building, amazing characters, action, romance, and fascinating magic. Really this book just has it all. Right now this is one of my favorite urban fantasy series and I am dying to read, Reap the Shadows, when it releases. This whole series is highly recommended to urban fantasy fans.

Howard I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.Book three delivers and is every bit as great as the first two. As with the previous two books in the series, there is plenty of humor, a truly compelling love story with great chemistry, and tons of action and adventure. The scenes are so vividly written, you can truly imagine yourself walking (or almost drowning) in this fantasy world. Once again, the story was so suspenseful that I could NOT put it down. What’s more, it was never tedious or predictable. Just when you think you have reached the climax of action and can finally take a moment to breathe, the heroine is thrust into even worse danger. The action isn’t a series of gratuitous chase scenes either or I would have become burnt out on the adrenaline. I’m “all in” with this series because I care about the characters. As much as I love reading on the edge of my seat, the people and relationships are what really draw me in. The characters are realistically flawed, neither truly good nor evil. The heroes’ strengths, humor, and wit are offset by other weaknesses. On the positive side, Piper has all the attitude of a typical young adult, but comes across as smart and likable, never bratty. I especially like that Piper isn’t motivated by ambition or a need to dominate, but rather a need to serve a greater good. Then there is Ash who is sublimely hot and dangerous, yet so vulnerable and noble. Lyre is just a delight, providing all the safety and comic relief of the stereotypical gay best friend, but who just happens to be straight sexy. Any of the characters in the book (goodish or baddish) could have their own spinoff series. Also refreshing is that the author respects YA readers enough not to glorify or demonize opposing factions in the book in order to simplify war or betrayal. Instead, the author explains (not excuses) sometimes despicable behavior by providing plausible arguments and rationales. In book 3, Piper must challenge childhood assumptions, make difficult choices with limited information and insight, summon the courage to act despite realistic fears, and make sacrifices for love. Our lives in the real world may not be as epic, but we can all relate. The book once again ends masterfully with a new purpose identified for the next installment, rather than an arbitrary cliff-hanger.
