Review 2014 EPIC Award Fantasy Finalist!
From the Inside Flap Excerpt:Frightened, Heather raised herself onto her bruised elbows. Shimmer, Joe, and Dane had also been thrown to the deck when the ship shot forward. She could see from Shimmer's face that he was as bewildered as she was. "It is not my magic," he yelled. "Dane?" "It must be Heather. She has my crystal," he shouted."Heather, slow the ship!" Shimmer exclaimed. "But I'm not doing anything," she cried."Yes you are," Dane said. "What were you thinking about right before it happened?"The image of the speeding arrow popped into Heather's mind. She squeezed her eyes closed as she imagined the arrow slowing. The wind eased and the creaks and groans from the ship lessened. The crisis was over, but suddenly she was hauled roughly to her feet. Dane snatched his dragon crystal from around her neck. "Idiot child. You could have killed us all.""That's enough, Dane. She didn't know what she was doing," Shimmer said.Heather muttered something under her breath as Dane turned away. An expression of utter incredulity came over his face. "What did you just call me?" he managed. This time, Heather made an effort to articulate every syllable. "A... horse's... arse."Joe and Manny nearly fell to the deck again, helpless with laughter. Even Shimmer had difficulty keeping his countenance."Why you cheeky monkey!" Dane sputtered. "I ought to spank you for that.""Try it and you'll feel the sting of my blade," Heather spat.

It's going on 4 a.m. as I write this review. I LOVED the story, it is so well written, you feel you are right there with the characters, riding the air currents, & battling foes.If there were 10 stars, that is what I would have rated this novel. I almost didn't buy this as I hate books that are in a series. So happy to find that this is COMPLETE in one book.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. 4.5 stars - a great read By The Every Free Chance Reader Did I enjoy this book: I really enjoyed this book. I was intrigued by the synopsis but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Tournament of Chance. I did not expect to like it as much as I did even while reading it. The last third really hooked me.I don't read a lot of fantasy, medieval times book. In fact, I can't remember the last one I read...if I did at all. Anyway... This was a really good "first" book for me. I didn't feel like I was in a time when there were kings and commoners and dragons but I was immersed in this world with such ease. I was lost in this land. There were dragons, trolls, wizards, other flying reptile beasts...and time travel. Who couldn't love that?Prince Dane Ormvalder was a fantastic character. He had so many emotions and struggled through them as he figured out what he felt and what was going on in his world. Heather was a strong, female lead character. I loved her wit, sarcasm, and how much she cared about others. There wasn't a character that I didn't like. I cared about just about everyone. Manny, Shimmer, Jovander, Gumm, and Ariel all added to the story and sometimes had me laughing out loud. The Dragon Rebels and other secondary characters added to this story. I loved the chef and even the fairy who had it out for the Ormvalder royals. For me, Tournament of Chance was unique and kept me interested. I thought the plot was really well-written and different. I didn't expect the outcome at all. The landscape, people, and cultures were described well and made me feel as if I were there. My only wish was to find out what happened to King Chance. I understand what happened but I would have liked a little more. (I don't want to spoil anything about this book which is why I won't say more about this one point.)Would I recommend it: I would recommend this book. I would even recommend it to people who would say that this isn't their genre, it was that good. Will I read it again: I think I may read this book again at some point in the future. I wasn't sure at first, but after finishing it, I think I will revisit Tournament of Chance.
