The whole of humanity lies broken and scattered. More than a thousand years have passed since the Modi virus brought human civilization back to the middle ages. The Long War has finally ended with Torsten triumphant, forging the remains of the Coalition and his own armies together into a burgeoning empire. He is now the undisputed master of Veldt. But there are worlds other than his own to worry about. The Eaters. Like demons from tales of old, a new enemy has surfaced. An insatiable swarm of xenos monsters devouring everything in its path, including entire planets. One human world after another falls prey to this new danger, and Veldt has not escaped their notice. A huge alien armada descends upon the isolated world, driven by hunger and vengeance. Time is running out for Torsten and his crew. They are faced with an enemy that could mean not only their own deaths, but literally the end of the human race. They must ply the depths of their courage and ingenuity as well as testing the limits of their will. A deal with the devil himself may be their only path to salvation. In this war there can be no negotiated peace or settlement. Against The Enemy of the Gods, this is a war of annihilation and there can only be victory or death.

It was a nuanced and original take on what can sometimes be a rather crowded and formulaic genre of fiction. The protagonist's underlying passion for the esoteric and homoerotic was so skillfully conveyed while still appearing subtle really causes the reader wonder whether or not this character is in fact an amalgam of how the author truly feels on the inside.Whether the books homosexual undertones were intentional or not they shine brightly and consistently through the pages as the author weaves a whimsical story of extraterrestrial contact full of phallic symbolism. The massive black ships of the alien fleet which, much like a puffer fish, swell to many times there original size when aroused by the threat of a rival squadron. The ships proton canons that spew loads of translucent goo capable of rendering other craft completely incapacitated. The forbidden tall and slender onyx obelisks that denote extraterrestrial habitation of particular areas the discovery of which compel and obsess the protagonist almost to the point of madness. These carefully crafted symbols are not lost of the astute observer.I would highly recommend this novel.

I've read and enjoyed most of her other work, including Fearless and the 13th Floor collection of novellas. I knew Of Blood and Sorrow would be darker and grittier, and I wasn't disappointed. Erin is a likable character in an impossible situation, dealing with demons and vampires who can't get along. Add to that her own inner turmoil as a Phage who exists by devouring people's emotions—something that can be both a blessing and a curse—and you have a flawed character worth rooting for. She kicks butt and cares about those closest to her. My other favorite character is Abdiel the Allu, a faceless creature who likes to wear the faces of dead celebrities. (The scene with him as JFK is priceless.) Plenty of humor, plenty of action, plenty of romance, and plenty of F-bombs—Of Blood and Sorrow ends with a satisfying finish. Sure, there's a lot of blood and sorrow leading up to it, but what do you expect?

Christine Rain’s Of Blood and Sorrow put me through breakneck twists turns that made the ride quite worth it. With her creative concepts and gallows humor I can tell she has wicked fun as she writes. Oh, and it’s sexy, too.Erin, the leading lady and a demoness, gains energy from sucking up the sorrow of others—a totally weird but great concept. Rains explores Erin’s character and motivation in depth. Erin is ashamed of how her on mother fed so completely on one of her “victims” she killed them. This is partly why Erin takes sanctuary in the Putzkammer Mortuary. There, she can “safely” feed on the natural sorrow of the grieving, while sparing random outsiders a fatal feeding fate. Erin hates her spots, which engorge as she feeds. They remind her of her mother’s appetite and of her own, which at any moment could rage out of control. There are so many fascinating analogies with these elements: the consequences of any type of appetite gone amok, the dread of potential inherited tendencies, the effects of shame on one’s life and even love. Constrained by the people around Erin and by the demands of her job, she hopes her dark past will never come to light. But when Nicolas Reese lands in the mortuary and is decidedly undead, Erin’s failsafe shrouds are ripped away. For one, she is falling for the dashing vampire. And then there’s the fact that vamps and demons don’t trust each other. Nicolas’s creator, Hessa a terrifyingly powerful and evil being, is stalking him. He needs Erin’s help but when the Putzkammers, who took her in and gave her a home, start to die off in scary ways, Erin starts to doubt her own allegiances.I recommend Of Blood and Sorrow to readers who like inventive paranormal with dark humor and spicy romance. And I look forward to the next in this series.

Of Blood and Sorrow by Christine Rains By ?wazithinkin I enjoyed this story about an insecure demon and a fledgling vampire who isn’t sure how to be a vampire. Erin Driscol was raised with an overbearing and abusive mother. She has found a new family with the Putzkammers and her job is an excellent fit for the type of demon she is. Erin is known a Phage demon, who feed off people’s sorrows, she is always careful not to take all of their sorrow away. Usually just enough to help those who have lost a loved one to be able to cope and move forward. Erin fears she may one day become like her mother and drain people until they are an empty shell, and this haunts her. When Nicolas awakens in the morgue one evening while Erin was working late all she really wants to do is get him out of the morgue. Once he is out of the morgue she starts feeling guilty about unleashing another vampire into the world. But Nicolas is not like other vampires, and when Erin sees this she does her best to protect him. Hessa, Nicolas’ sire, wants her new boy toy back. She is as evil as she is beautiful and has a plan that will devastate the demon community and leave the vampires in control.Ms. Rains has done an excellent job building her fantasy community into our own world. Which is kind of creepy when you start thinking about the possibilities. Her characters are well defined and original. The plot moves quickly with several twists and turns I didn’t expect. It was hard to put the book down during confrontations and showdowns. If you like urban fantasies with original interesting characters who grow into their strengths, you will likely enjoy this story. I know I did.FYI: Adult language, there are several F-bombs dropped.Format/Typo Issues: No significant issues were noted.**Originally written for "Books and Pals" book blog. Blue light ripples and crackles as the shield walls fracture. The remnants of a doomed civilization stand vigil outside, intent on plunder and slaves, desirous of untainted blood to strengthen their broken lives. With the poisons, came deformities and powers, enhanced senses and the ability to manipulate waves of energy—lightbenders and fire-wielders. For those who thrived for generations within the walls, the broken world looms, strange and deadly, slowly dying. While the righteous pray for salvation, Rimma prepares for battle, fueled by rage and blinded by vengeance. Her twin, Angel, bound to her by unbreakable magic, seeks light in the darkness, hope in the future, and love in a broken world. Trigger Warning.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. `Paradise has fallen' By Grady Harp Oregon transplant author D. Wallace Peach has a background that leads directly into her mysteriously consuming novels: MYTHS OF THE MIRROR, THE MELDING OF AERIS and SUNWIELDER. Originally from the East Coast, working as in the business world while managing her life as wife and mother, she made a life shift which in many ways began with directly observing the tragedy of 9/11. Returning to school to gain a Masters in Counseling, she restarted her career away from business and in direct contact with aiding families and children, understanding refreshed by the importance of relationships - or as she terms it, The Belonging. She now lives in the beauty of the Northwest and has committed her time to creating novels of significance.Just as in other novels the author continues her ability to create fantasy in the most credible fashion in THE BONE WALL. While some writers in this realm push the reader to such a distance with bizarre names, magic, mythical beasts, and impossible kingdoms, Peach instead makes her characters life like, and in doing so she is able to manipulate her story into a string of sensitive metaphors that apply to the fragility as well as the indomitability and the indomitability of humanity. More important, it seems to this reader, Peach is concerned with the betterment of humanity than she is in comic book tales. Not that she is unable to transport us to strange make believe lands and there find epic type concepts and ideas that hold the mystery of fine fantasy writing: she instead makes her stories reach out for communication to the reader as well as entertainment of a story well told. That is a gift, and it becomes more obvious one of Peach's strengths with the more novels we read. One of the reasons this reviewer is fond of her writing is her utter honesty. She opens THE BONE WALL with a philosophical statement: `Our human journey through time lies sunbathed and shadowed with remarkable advancements, some clouded with secret and not-so-secret costs. What if we continue to poison our land, water, and air in the name of progress and profit? What if we continue to blast our way through conflicts on a global and personal scale? What if we abandon compassion, no longer our brothers' and sisters' keepers? What becomes of us when righteousness is blind? This book is a work of fantasy in a world without vision or concern for consequence.'Wallace begins her story in heaven with the twin sisters Rimma and Angel. Briefly, `Blue light ripples and crackles as the shield walls fracture. The remnants of a doomed civilization stand vigil outside, intent on plunder and slaves, desirous of untainted blood to strengthen their broken lives. With the poisons, came deformities and powers, enhanced senses and the ability to manipulate waves of energy--lightbenders and fire-wielders. For those who thrived for generations within the walls, the broken world looms, strange and deadly, slowly dying. While the righteous pray for salvation, Rimma prepares for battle, fueled by rage and blinded by vengeance. Her twin, Angel, bound to her by unbreakable magic, seeks light in the darkness, hope in the future, and love in a broken world.'With every new novel D. Wallace Peach becomes more poetic, more lyrical, her rich vocabulary grows and her stories mature. She is at the top of her game and we can only look forward to her next splendid adventure. Wallace Peach's writing since I picked up her first book, "Myths of The Mirror". Diana's skill as a polished writer and novelist were glaringly evident right from the beginning. Her new book "The Bone Wall", which she describes as a dark novel, is a story I would better describe as a beautifully crafted and philosophical relevant story on human endeavors, as well as human foibles of self-destruction working themselves out. I almost want to say that she has strayed from tantalizing fantasy to theoretical social anthropology. The Bone Wall is a story set in a futuristic world, a broken world of barren landscapes, fouled water and remnants of civilization, after the "deceivers" of the old world have long faded away into an ugly historical memory. What is left are two worlds, two regenerated civilizations separated by mutual animosity and distrust. What remains as remnants of the old world are domed cities, protected from outsiders by power shields, which are failing after centuries of use, and no one left to understand their workings, or how to keep them functioning. Outside the domes are the People, made up of tribes who's social order is enforced via brute force, and magic of the Touched. The story is told through twin sisters, Rimma and Angel, who grew up in the domed city Heaven, which is at its functional end time. The failure of the dome will leave the city totally defenseless to the hostile tribes who have encircled the city in wait of its collapse, when raiding the dome and the pillaging and plunder begins, along with the rape and killing of all those who do not kneel in supplication to the People. Woven into this story is magical realism, where the Touched are members of the tribes who have physical deformities, and magical powers of light bending, and Pyrokinesis, among others. What is striking about this tale is the philosophical arguments woven into the story through the characters and their actions. Real human emotions and natural behavioral responses become played out throughout the story, as the characters from different world views, and abilities, clash and fight for survival in a broken brutal world. As in her other books, Diana Peach is master of metaphor, setting and depth of character. This book is in all senses a page turner. A story difficult to put down or turn away from, as we the reader, are the domed inhabitants, and People of our own time.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A Post-apocalyptic tale By Robin Perron I am an avid gamer with a love for post-apocalyptic games as well as a great fantasy story. In The Bone Wall by D. Wallace Peach those two worlds are married perfectly. The Bone Wall is definitely a fantasy novel. It has elements magic, odd names, mythical beasts and impossible kingdoms all of which are set in a post-apocalyptic world where you can’t trust anyone outside of your community. The great thing about this story is that even with the elements of fantasy and a setting based in the future, you still feel like it is all totally possible. With the world that we live in today it is possible that the future of our planet holds dirty water, empty landscapes, and a civilization divided. In The Bone Wall I experienced the world Peach created through 2 protagonists: Rimma, the fiery strong willed twin bent on revenge; and Angel, the gentle hearted twin looking to find peace and reconciliation. As each twin makes their choices their lives and the life of their sister is impacted. If you enjoy fantast and or a post-apocalyptic setting with strong characters then this book is right up your alley.

"He'd been gone from the kingdom so long I never expected to see him again. Nevertheless, with every sun rising over the walls of my fair city his memory walked with me. Then one day, I found him. There he was, standing in front of me--I was telling him about the death of a prince and how we needed him to come back to help Kesan avoid a devastating war. But, all I could think was, 'I have found my mari. And I am not letting him go.'" - Kaywren of Forsolelh /-------/ Stephen and Kaywren have spent the last decade in their own worlds, separated by a near-forgotten portal. Impending war prompts the adopted princess of the medieval kingdom of Kesan to seek out her long lost teacher friend only to discover they were destined for each other. But, these aren’t the only odds they’ll have to beat to enjoy a life together. Joined by three friends, also from Stephen’s world, they step into a land flooded with cryptic meanings and outlaws who are leaving a trail of blood and murky connections in their wake. Racing back and forth across Kesan, the group risks their lives with increasingly dangerous gambits as they work desperately to unravel the complex mystery behind this well-planned conflict and prevent a tragic loss of life. As troops pour onto the battlefield, the survival of these two idealistic dreamers is just another variable. But, they’re absolutely sure about each other and that’s what makes this story worth telling.

By Anonymous Return to Kesan is an enticing medieval mystery in which the meaning of the clues seems to be almost drowned away by the impact of two lovers' thoughts for each other and also by their intimate passage though a stimulating natural (and supernatural) environment. The main characters, Stephen and Kaywren, seem to be bound together by belief and stronger-than-typical cosmic forces that prove to be increasingly untenable in our day-to-day existence. In this story, Stephen and his three life-long friends forsake our modern world that is beyond saving to save a kingdom in special world'its simple beauty exemplified in seemingly insignificant, but less-than-subtle natural occurrences. As the friends work with Kaywren, princess of Kesan, to establish an understanding of the purposes behind a series of terrible crimes, they interact in a fashion that reflects their unquestioned loyalty to each other and dedication to a higher purpose. In Return to Kesan, the reader is exposed to a refreshing writing personality that brings an undeterred humor to otherwise serious circumstances. The characters repeatedly manage to find levity right around the corner from every conflict, raising them and the reader up as they pass from challenge to challenge. The author also shows himself capable of ranging from very perception-driven artiness to equally extreme science-driven philosophizing. The resulting fashion in which the scenery is intensely detailed is signature to this author as are the casual discussions on theoretical physics held by the main characters. These aspects are the "gifts that keep on giving" in this story. The characters, the creatures and the land each have a very present existence separate from all of the turmoil that the actual plot is based on. The universe is personified....it worries....it sighs.Ultimately, the reader is left constantly entertained while simultaneously speculating on several unknowns. How are all of these violent acts connected? Will Stephen and Kay find their love and dedication to each other strained by the extreme danger of current kingdom obligations? Is the "magic" portal to Kesan a random occurrence of miraculous luck for Kesan (and the friends) or is there a rationale for its existence? Is it constructed for a purpose? Is it likely that the friends are the only souls aware of its existence? Will their knowledge of science, magic, politics and religion be enough to decipher the machinations behind the pending war? Or will they end up having to vacate their plans in a desperate retreat back to Stephen's world? Regardless of the outcome, Stephen and Kay will struggle through it together, all-the-while pondering the complexities of the universe and the amusing peculiarities of their own cultural differences. This was a fun, meaningful read and it hints at a strong follow-up in the pending sequel.

OMEGA Conscript, by Stephen Arseneault

About the Author I came to this planet fifty some odd years ago. After exiting my mother's portal, the doctor slapped me around until I started breathing the oxygen. I'll admit, at the time, I had no idea what I was doing or where I was. Being an infant Human, I was completely reliant on the responsible actions of others. It was a time that I have largely forgotten. I reside in Central Florida with the wife and children. After thirty years in engineering, my time is now spent chronicling the adventures of fictitious heroes. They are off-world, fighting the good fight. For me? I'm stuck here on this planet in this feeble existence that we Humans are all forced to endure. So, I ask you this... do you wish to escape the bonds of this surly planet we call Earth? Are you looking for a bit more adventure than what the grocery store has to offer? Do you worry about being enslaved by alien androids or six-eyed alien goats with lasers? Pew, pew, pew! Yeah, that's what I thought. Asking yourself those questions and getting back an answer is the first hurdle to cross in the race to get off this world. Sounds like you are ready to venture out, to put this place behind you. So crack open one of my books. Take to the heavens and let me shout this out to those who remain: "Watch out universe! Another Human is on the loose!" Join the email list for a free copy of the science fiction ebook short story titled 'THE SQUAD' along with notifications and release dates at comments@arsenex.com. By Gloria DuMais Sutton The love of Knog's life, the apple of his eye and his kryptonite, is his beloved and dominant wife, Getta. As his muse, if you will, she keeps him focused, and keeps him in line. Hardin Salton, upon getting wind that somehow/someway Knog has become the Emporer of the Talisans, has conscripted the Grunta population to try to put Knog in a galactic checkmate...and this has included Knog's own family. This move has upped the stakes for Knog and his loyal entourage. There are some twists and turns that make for a wild, intergalactic ride! The author has not yet exhausted his ideas for this storyline...it gets better and better with each book. I cannot recommend this author and his books enough!

Without spoiling anything, this book follows the same structure of story as the previous books. Knog and team pull of an amazing feat very early in the story to have things come crashing down, with the rest of the book building up to either a cliff hanger or a plot climax. If you enjoyed the earlier books in the series, this one falls right in line. The story is still interesting with character development, new twists, and plenty of action.

By Peter Anthony Roland (PARoland) The Omega Series has a lot in common with the ten cent comic books I loved as a kid. Author (Arseneault) is a very clever story teller & his "Omega Series" is as good as any of those offered by Asimov or Roddenberry. If you love a good old fashioned Sci-Fi Adventure Story.. Filled with lots of Action, & Unforgettable Characters? This is the Series for YOU!

As the heir to the largest shape shifter pack in North America, Alec Graves has inherited a savage, dangerous life. If he can successfully take over his father's pack, Alec will finally have a chance to make changes for the better, but he wouldn't be the first person to be corrupted by that kind of power. Human teenager Adri Paige is only days away from manifesting a supernatural ability that is as powerful as it is terrifying. Her only hope of survival lies in mastering her gift before it lures dark forces into her life. Separately, Alec and Adri have no chance of seeing another year. Together they just might be able to save the world. This omnibus edition includes the first three novels in the popular Dark Reflections Series (which has received more than 300 4- & 5-star reviews), and is nearly 800 pages of action, danger and romance set in one of the richest, most complex worlds in the genre. Even better, this is a chance to get the first three installments of the breathtaking epic urban fantasy Dark Reflections series for 45% off of the normal retail price. This Bundle includes: Bound: The only thing worse than having no family at all, is having a family that is out to hurt you. That would all be bad enough for a normal 17-year-old, but it's even worse for Alec Graves. A shape shifter's pack, his family, is the only thing stopping the other preternatural creatures out there from killing them. Alec's pack isn't just neglectful, he's pretty sure that his father wants him dead. Alec is about to be sent to the front lines of a war between his people and everything else that goes bump in the night. His only chance of survival is to convince everyone around him that he's the perfect soldier, but there are lines that Alec won't cross, not for any price. Hunted: The Perfect Weapon: Adri Paige can visit people inside of their dreams, where they are defenseless. The Ultimate Spy: Adri's power lets her ferret out anyone's secrets and even influence their waking actions. The World's Biggest Prize: Adri's power comes with a price. Dark forces hunt her, hoping to bend her gifts to their purposes. The Real Problem? Adri needs to make it through high school without letting anyone around her figure out her true capabilities—all while crushing on a guy she knows is probably trouble. Ambushed: Adriana Paige has survived not one but two vampire attacks in less than twenty-four hours, and unless she's able to master her ability to share other people's dreams, the attacks are only going to get worse. Taggart has promised to train Adri, but he's got even more enemies than she does and there's no guarantee that he'll be able to keep her from being caught in the crossfire. More than anything else, Adri wants to talk to shape shifter Alec Graves, but he's gone strangely silent. There's no way for Adri to know if that's because he's no longer interested in her, or if it's simply because he's still on the run from his ruthless father, Kaleb. As enemies both new and old start closing in on Adri, she's starting to worry that she might be forced into choosing between Taggart, the man who saved her life, and Alec, the guy to whom she feels inexplicably connected. Publisher's Note: Dean Murray's ongoing Reflection Series has been a stunning success with more than half a million copies in circulation, and a rich, complex world where choices—right or wrong—have real, profound consequences. Unsatisfied with the restrictions imposed on him by writing inside of the conventional series structure, Dean has returned to Sanctuary and the characters so many fans have fallen in love with. The Dark Reflections Series is an alternate timeline set in the same world and featuring many of the same characters as the Reflections Series, but with a profoundly different backstory.

Review Praise for the Dark Reflections Series: 'A very dark, fast moving book. I would recommend this to all...' -Kindle Reviewer 'I really enjoyed this book, almost against my own desires, and am looking forward to reading more in this series.' -Merissa (from The Archaeolibrarian Book Blog) 'Loved the book. Werewolves, hybrids, vampires, you name it, this book has it. Not only is the story riveting, but the characters have you cheering for the good guys.' -Kindle Reviewer 'Like others when I discovered this was an alternative timeline to the Reflections series I had my doubts. I ended up loving this timeline as much as the other...I love the way this author's mind works.' -Kindle Reviewer 'I've never seen an author turn his own series on its head and rewrite it with a different set of circumstances in the same world. I approve wholeheartedly of this effort. Dean Murray has lots of tricks up his sleeve and they all work beautifully. You will want to read this and all the other books in both series.' -Kindle Reviewer '[I]ntense and unexpected. I liked it.' -Kindle Reviewer

About the Author Dean Murray is a prolific author with dozens of titles across multiple pen names and more than half a million copies of his work currently in circulation. Dean started reading seriously in the second grade due to a competition and has spent most of the subsequent three decades lost in other people's worlds. Things worsened, or improved depending on your point of view, when he first started experimenting with writing while finishing up his accounting degree. These days Dean has a wonderful wife and two lovely daughters to keep him more grounded than he used to be, but the idea of bringing others along with him as he meets interesting new people in universes nobody else has ever seen drags him back to his computer on a regular basis. Keep up to speed on Dean's latest projects at DeanWrites.com.

I was lured by the comment that if you like Patricia Briggs you will like this, and I made the doubly irresponsible mistake of not downloading a sample first (thank you Amazon, I love that feature). So I bought the book and found within the first chapter that the writing style and story lacked what I love so much about Patricia Briggs. I don't and won't bash an author because I know that work very hard, and writing can be a very personal experience for them. But, I will say that I'm disappointed in myself for not being more through before I caved into the impulse that this series might be as satisfying to me as all of Patricia Brigg's work.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. More like Twilight than anything else... By Nicholas Storyline is average. Writing style is as bad as twilight. Very little attention to actual character development. Would have given three stars but comparing yourself to Dresden files was grossly irresponsible and misleading.

Not all princesses get their happily ever after... They tell me I killed my boyfriend Phillip in cold blood. I stabbed him twenty one times. I’m only seventeen years old, and I am serving life in Spindle Ridge Asylum for the Criminally Insane. I don’t remember killing him, so it’s really hard to believe I’m capable of murder. In fact I don’t remember anything before I came to Spindle Ridge, not even my boyfriend. I can only grasp onto my realistic dreams while the madness of the asylum threatens to pull me under. I dream I’m a beautiful princess and there is an evil faerie named Maleficent who is bent on my destruction. The dreams are the closest thing I have to memories of my life, except they aren’t real. I’m crazy. I’m not a princess. They’re the mad illusions of an irrational teenage girl, right? They’ve assigned me a new doctor, and she says I can trust her, and that she’ll help me see the truth of who I really am. When she arrived she brought a new patient, Sawyer, who is everything Spindle Ridge isn’t: exciting, mysterious and beautiful. He promises he’s here to rescue me. Trusting either of them frightens me. Could it be possible that my dreams are more than just the imaginings of a delusional girl? Could they be truth?

However, she has no recollection of that night. In fact, she has no memories at all before arriving at Spindle Ridge. She has dreams, but it’s hard to differentiate between what is real and what is not. Then one day a new doctor arrives, and she claims she can help Rory with her memories, with remembering who she really is, and that she can trust her. But can she? After all, this new doctor claims that Rory is really a Princess. How is that so? A Princess wouldn’t do something so horrible to another person, and a Princess certainly would not be in an Asylum. Or would she?Along with the new doctor came a new patient, Sawyer. He is handsome, wonderful, mysterious, and there is just something about him that draws Rory to him. And those eyes…. Those beautiful eyes that seem to change colors. Sawyer says he is there to help save Rory, help her remember her life before Spindle Ridge. But can she trust him?Slumber is much like Sleeping Beauty. You have a Princess who is suffering from memory loss- which is a gift more than a curse in her current predicament. You have an evil being who would stop at nothing to take the throne she thinks she is entitled to, and you have a King and Queen who are suffering at the hands of said wanna-be-queen.As Rory quickly learns, things are not always as they appear. Can the Fae and Warriors help her remember in time to fix things and free herself of the curse bestowed upon her?

Isn't it? As soon as I saw it I knew I had to read it! I adore Fairytales, fairytale mashups, & basically all things magical so this was right up my alley. The characters were great. The story was full of emotion, questions, & drama. Then we had the evil fairy & her minions who were definitely throwing around some magic & mischief. The moment we arrived in Spindle Ridge I felt how I imagine I would if I were in Rory's place i(n an asylum with no recollection of the past or events leading up to my imprisonment). For the greater part of this tale we are witnessing Rory's confusion & attempt at remembrance, but with all of the meds & brainwashing being shoved down her there isn't much more to expect ... until everything begins to change. This is where some action jumps out to play & some interesting twists are thrown at us.My rating teetered a bit for a few reasons. Even though this wasn't my #1 favorite story by this author I feel it was told extremely well. (And, I have read all of her previous work.) Sloat's writing is always impressive. The characters are never lacking. I just enjoy a bit more action throughout. This is totally a personal preference, & I think that the lack of action was appropriate for the beginning of this tale. I will say that the action Sloat did bring was very entertaining. And ... as always ... she leaves us wanting more. I can't wait to see what she has to come.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. The premise was great.... By AE I don't know. After reading this book I was surprised with all of the 5 star reviews. The premise was great, but the book itself fell a little flat for me. I know its YA- but I've read so many great, deep, exciting, emotional YA books recently- and this one just didn't "feel"for me.I wasn't feeling that she was truly in danger. I didn't feel the connection she had with her love interest. I thought that the people who came to help her got in too easily.Written a different way this story could have been incredibly awesome. A little bit deeper, scarier and more emotion- would have made a fantastic book.In this case- it was a good idea for a story- but the actual book could have been a liitle bit better.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. An excellent resource By Mr Pendent I purchased this because I already owned "Mastering Manga Studio 5" by the same author and had found that book useful. This book looked like something that might come in handy to solve specific problems or answer specific questions I still had, even after using MS5EX for a few months. It is very useful and, most importantly, is well documented and illustrated. Rather than simply giving you the steps to achieve something, the book includes copious screen shots and images to be sure that everything is clear. If you aren't sure how to do something, it is unlikely because it wasn't explained clearly enough.I removed a star because a few of "recipes" I felt were not really necessary, and might have been used just to pad out the book. Nevertheless, the rest of the content is useful and handy. This is, like any good cookbook, not the sort of thing you read from front to back. This is instead where you look when you can't figure out how a feature works or how to do something in the software, and that is a job it does very well.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Useful By Myles Strous A great addition to your shelf if you use Manga Studio 5.Parts of this book are pure gold, such as information showing how to create a custom fabric and transform it to the contours of the garment or its wearer. This is valuable information that you would otherwise have to struggle to find piecemeal, and which would be nearly impossible to adapt directly from tutorials for other software. It falls short of 5 stars because it suffers some confusion as to whether it is a cookbook or a user manual. Some chapters, such as making brushes or creating special effects, are presented as true cookbook recipe examples that provide insight and inspiration as well as adding to your repertoire of skills, while other chapters are presented as "how to use the tool" instructions or explanations with simple examples.Admittedly the information in the latter-mentioned chapters is valuable and presented with clarity, but (for example) showing every blending mode with the same two boring thumbnail layers of coloured stripes (which become a variety of greys in the print version) misses so much potential for providing recipes for how specific blending modes can be used for shading and lighting, adding textures, making white paper transparent in scanned line art, and similar effects.Apart from the impression that this is combined from parts of two different books, I would still recommend this book to any user who is not already at expert level of familiarity with Manga Studio 5 features.

Packed with easy to follow tutorials By Kyle Shold Full disclosure: I was asked to be one of the original reviewers of this book during the editorial process. I am listed inside the book and was compensated with a final printed edition.I'm a professional artist and I use Manga Studio EX5 on a daily basis. I found this book be extremely well written and easy to follow for both the experienced artist and novice. As part of my review process I purposely followed each step in order along with my copy of Manga Studio to make sure each "recipe" brought me to the same conclusion as the author intended. If you're a beginner to this wonderful program I believe you'll find this book extremely helpful in getting you started from the moment you open it up. If you're already experienced in Manga Studio you will probably have your own art techniques in place but this book may help with file set up, page layout, navigating the materials palette and a few other tricks.I kept this at four stars instead of five only because of the overall visual presentation. This has nothing to do with how author Elizabeth Staley presents her tutorials which are very well thought out. As stated before, you'll have no problems following along. My disappointment has to do with the use of gray scale images. For the most part if dealing with just menus, for example, the images work fine. But when dealing with special effects, layer blending modes and other color specific tutorials the gray scale images detract from the usefulness of what the tutorial is illustrating. With that said, don't let that be the deciding factor. This book is crammed with a lot of information that doesn't require color images. Especially the first and last parts of the book which go into copious amounts of detail regarding page set-up, book set-up and exporting of your finished comic. There is also a section on using the powerful 3-D model tools in Manga Studio EX5 that I found very helpful!

In Book One, Corgan expertly sets the stage for her story with an introduction to Flesh, an amazing experience for those who would like to safely test the waters in the world of BDSM with as much or as little as their heart desires. And oh my good glory, is it ever sexy! In Book Two, Corgan now delves into the development and personality of the characters. In Book Three, Corgan begins to build the heat to a slow sensual burn! In Book Four, Corgan begins to kick up the heat! In Book Five, as the heat blazes and attraction builds for our two main characters, we see more of their individual personalties, their fears and desires. And now in Book Six, Corgan begins to reveal the true nature of Dr Lucian Reddick and the darkness of the beast that lies within him. Oh my! Somebody call 911! Sky Corgan is a woman on fire and judging by what I've read so far, this is just the beginning! Good Golly Miss Molly - I am now officially hooked - hook, line and sinker! The story is exciting, thrilling, enticing, compelling, rriveting, erotic, sensual and steamy. And did I say hot? Well, it's HOT! The dialogue is smart, seductive, arousing, very well written and flows effortlessly. The characters are fascinating, captivating, engaging, intriguing and sexy as sin. Corgan uses her amazing talent, unparalleled skill and unique style to brilliantly combine these elements into a wonderfully entertaining and superbly satisfying read. Amy Underwood is in a rut. Her life is boring and she hasn't had sex in seven years. She loves her job as an interior designer and decorator at Environ Design and Derrick, her gay, work boyfriend is great but none of that satisfies her sexual needs. God, so pathetic! Her roommate Janice finally convinces her to sign up for a session at Flesh but good lord, she's never even had sex unless she was in a relationship. How in the world is she supposed to be naked in front of some stranger much less participate in some kinky BDSM scene. Oh well, maybe she could just dip a toe to see if the water is warm. Just one time, that's all. Maybe then her roommate will stop bugging her about it. Yep, she'll try it once and never go back. Or will she? But her mysterious, sexy one night only Dom, only known as "Sir", just may have something else in mind. Oh my! Was their chance client meeting strictly a coincidence or was it "strictly" set up by none other than Mr Mystery Man himself, wealthy, well known plastic surgeon, Dr Lucian Reddick? Hmmm.......I wonder??? It seems the dominant Dr Reddick has plans for the lovely shy Amy Underwood. And what are those plans? Well, I don't like to give spoilers but I will say that we see much more of what he has planned for the lovely innocent Amy in this installment but I suspect the best is yet to come! And his plans include a lot more than working with her to redecorate his home. He definitely wants to see how the creamy flesh of Amy's body looks draped across his bed! A perfect accent to the room decor - especially if she's tied up and waiting for him! It seems the irresistible Lucian Reddick is very involved in the BDSM lifestyle and wants Amy to be involved as well. He invites her to Fleshfest to try to initiate her into his world. Amy doesn't like what she finds at Fleshfest especially when she discovers another woman in Lucian's lap! What? But the innocent naive Amy struggles with the morality of the BDSM lifestyle and unlike her roommate, is not eager to become a willing participant. She would never become a submissive and participate in a staged scene in front of other people! Never say never! But just what will Amy do to keep her job! Or is her job just an excuse to continue to see the handsome Lucian? Me thinks Amy doth protest too much! Amy has already dipped a toe to test the water but she better know how to swim because she's definitely in deep water and apparently she can't decide if she wants to sink, or swim with Sir. But Amy has no idea that within the handsome Lucian Reddick lies a tortured soul with dark desires - for her! Will those desires cost her everything - destroy her very soul? Hmmm.......Yowza! I guess we'll find out more in Book Seven! I can hardly wait! Oh, Oh, Oh! It's just so exciting! I was turning the pages so fast, my IPad couldn't keep up! I can't get enough of this series! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

He spots her as she's running down the stairs and convinces her to stay and check out the vendors. They have a fun time with body paint. Janice hooks up with her Dom and they play out a spanking scene. Lucian and Amy check it out, but it's too much for Amy to handle when the Dom starts paddling Janice with the word 'slut'. Amy runs out to head home. Lucian convinces her to let him take her home. Things get very hot and heavy. Amy is self-conscious knowing that the driver can hear her, but lust wins out. The sex is unbelievable! However, Lucian tells Amy that he's not hers so she shouldn't be jealous of him seeing other women. Amy's devastated! They arrive at her apartment, she gets out of the limo and Lucian drives off. Amy just can't separate the sex from emotions. Lucian is the same a**hole, but he really cares about Amy and doesn't understand how to express his feelings for her other than in the BDSM lifestyle. Amy isn't feeling the lifestyle. I have a love/hate relationship with these cliffhangers. I know each installment will be better, but I hate being left hanging! Sky! What are you doing to us? Until episode seven...

Flesh: Part Six (The Flesh Series Book 6) By unicorn64 I'm kind of confused because Sky sent me book 6 to review in pre release but the book that downloaded says Book 7. I already had my review for book 5 written. Amy and Janice came upon Lucian in the back room upstairs at flesh fest. Amy felt a twinge of jealosy seeing the girl on Lucians Lap. And she said lets go to Janice. Janice said I thought we were looking for you boy. She said I found him with another girl. She said I was late and Janice said I'm sorry, I thought..... They were walking away when she heard her name. And they didn't stop so Lucian caught up with them. He asked her where she was going and she said home. He kept talking to her and convinced her to stay awhile. He was even letting her touch him the way she usually couldn't from being tied up. He got some liquid latex that they were paiting on each other and she started having fun. They were even giggling and laughing. Then Janice showed up she had found Sir and they were going to the dungeon to do a scene. Lucian wanted Amy to go but she as usual fought it. And he finally convinced her but she still wasn't into it. She could tell that apparently Janice liked getting spanked and then marked as slut. She said she was tired and was going home. He followed her and she said she would call a cab. He said lets go to my house, she said she was tired and he said ok I will take you home. He called for the limo. On the way she submitted to him again only now she is starting to accept it more. She even got quite demanding with him and he allowed it. Then when they were done she talked about the girl and made other comments and Lucian said I don't belong to you and she said I know you don't. Then he made another comment, I make people beautiful, and I hurt beautiful people. Then they were at her apartment. She sees what he said as a good bye. She goes in texts Janice that she is home and takes a shower. When Janice gets home she is terribly drunk and Amy helps her. Janice tells her that her Sir knows Lucian and said he had a bad past. Now Amy is curious but Janice passes out before she learns anything. End of this installment. Now patiently waiting for Flesh 7. The book does contain explicit graphic sexual acts and is not for minors under 18. I love the story and think Amy and Lucian are going to fall in love and yet I also have bad feelings about it. Can't wait for the rest of it.

It really hit home for me. Interestingly when I was trying to find out more about the author I found a whole instagram account devoted to him eating - Fioreouseating.

This just put all the pieces together that weren't thoroughly covered in the first three. I had a lot of "aha" moments as I read this book in reference to the first three. Really enjoyed it!
