This is the story of Imoshen, named for her ancestor, Imoshen the First. The last pure T'En woman, she is a throwback to the mystics who settled Fair Isle. When the Ghebite invader, General Tulkhan, conquers her island she is torn between her duty to smooth the transition of power and her betrothal to Reothe, last throwback T'En male who leads the rebellion against Tulkhan.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Good Addition to the Series By Wendell Upon Fair Isle, the garnet-eyed, silver-haired, pale-skinned, twelve-fingered T’En have nearly become a thing of legend, as years of intermarriage have made the race of conquerors nearly identical to their human subjects. But even so, T’En blooded nobles still rule the land, and, occasionally, that blood will show, resulting in a pure blooded “throwback”, causing a disruption of the tranquility as the specter of the violent past rears its ugly head. Imoshen is one of these blessed (and cursed) individuals. For most of her life, Imoshen’s family has sheltered her from the revulsion and novelty that her condition causes among the nobility, but as dutiful adherents of the laws, they have taught her that as a “throwback” she must devote her life to one of service, abandoning any selfish desires for a family of her own. (Throwbacks are forbidden to marry or sire offspring.) And until recently, Imoshen accepted her fate in silence, but then her path crossed the only male throwback upon Fair Isle.To say Imoshen and Roethe have sexual chemistry when they meet would be too mild a term for it. For once they are together the magic inherit within them ignites, drawing one to the other. Each touch of the other’s hand is lightning; each kiss is ecstasy; and each caress is pure nerve-tingling erotica. Quickly, Imoshen and Roethe cast societal conventions aside, announcing their intentions to wed. A decision that the nobility find frightening and somewhat abhorrent. But before the two can begin their life together, the wrath of the gods falls upon Fair Isle.To the north, across the narrow seas, the Ghebite Empire has been spreading across the continent like a plague, engulfing each kingdom it touched. The barbaric horsemen too mighty for even coalitions of nations to hold back. And now – unlooked for – these conquerors have landed upon Fair Isle, intent on destroying the soulless “dhamfeer” as their religion labels the magical T’En.Armies are raised. Battles are fought. And Fair Isle begins to lose. All too soon, Imoshen finds herself the last of her family, Roethe’s fate unknown, beset with the legions of the famous General Tulkhan, the son of the Ghebite King and a mighty conqueror. And while every instinct within the young T’En screams for her to bar the gates to her small city, rally the remaining people and fight, the ancient T’En known as the “Aayel” – and Imoshen’s mentor – counsels something different: surrender! Not only of the city itself but of Imoshen to Tulkhan’s carnal desires to bed a pure blooded T’En. The Aayel warns that only by such a sacrifice can Imoshen save herself and all of Fair Isle!Pretty interesting story. At least, I thought it would be as I began, and overall, it delivered on that promise – with a few exceptions that is. But let’s start with the positives about The Fall of Fair Isle.As followers of Rowena Cory Daniells’ T’En novels already know, there is a lot of history and legend in the series. Not the general retreaded Tolkien fantasy or even the older Arthurian type that many fantasy aficionados are accustom to but something fresh yet still familiar. And in Fall, Daniells doesn’t make the mistake of unveiling her world in huge info dumps but deftly allows it to be revealed slowly and consistently as the story progresses, so that by the end many of a reader’s questions about Fair Isle and its T’En inhabitants have been answered without them even realizing it.But the strength of this novel is definitely the romantic love triangle. From the first chapter, the attraction, distrust, and political machinations between Imoshen and General Tulkhan are front and center. The constant shifting of the viewpoint from one to the other allowing a reader to experience each person’s feeling as their first violent meeting leads to an even more complex relationship later on. And while Roethe enters and exits the narrative quite frequently, his presence and pull on Imoshen’s emotions and decisions never totally ceases. So if romantic love triangles and all their wicked twists and turns is something that you adore, The Fall of Fair Isle will not disappoint. For all its interesting and compelling qualities, Fall did not entertain me as much as I would have liked, however. Mainly, this was due to my preconceptions of the novel. Perhaps I’ve read too many traditional grimdark fantasy series, but whatever the reason, I went into this novel expecting a great deal of combat, warfare, and intense political upheaval in the vein of Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire and instead found myself presented with a novel very light on the violence and warfare and heavy on the romance and emotional turmoil of the characters. A turn of events that was not necessarily bad but which did not meet my needs of the moment. So should you give this novel a try?It really depends upon your favorite type of fantasy faire. If that is grimdark or the violent variety of fantasy on the shelves, then The Fall of Fair Isle might not have what you are looking for. But if romantic fantasy is something you enjoy, then I’d recommend you pick this novel up.

The characters felt very well put together and real. I liked the mythos, but I feel there could have been more mystery, especially revolving around the Ancients. It also bothered me just a teeny bit that there's a throw away line in the book about the possibility of a civilization on one of the moons, but the idea never went anywhere. The romance aspect seemed to be the main focus of the plot, and boy was the resolution bitter sweet. I feel like the ending will stick with me for a very long time; however, as much as I loved the romance between Imoshen and Tulkhan, I really felt she and Reothe had much more chemistry, so just a little gripe on my part, I wish Daniells had given Tulkan and Imoshen's interactions a little more oomph. The upside is that Tulkhan didn't necessarily feel mismatched (just maybe a little less compatible than Imoshen and Reothe). The plot was very up and down - many small climaxes and interludes. I would have liked for a stronger sense of suspense. The final climax felt a little, well... anticlimactic. I feel the final battle could have been more drawn out than it ultimately was. I feel that the love triangle was Daniells' main focus for the story, and that's fine. I personally enjoy a good love story, but this setting really needed more warfare and mythos. Seriously, for a fantasy, the fantasy aspect isn't quite up to snuff.I give it a 4 out of 5 for these reasons. I loved this book and will read it again, but I think the whole thing only read at 90%, and Daniells needed to give it just a little more to get it the rest of the way there.

The Fall of Fair Isle wasn't as knuckle biting and heartbreaking as the Outcast Chronicles but it finished with hope and relief which I liked. This trilogy-in-on-book is incredibly well written and the characters are well drawn out. The themes are about fighting for the survival of their people, trust (... that theme was excruciating at times but very well done!) and where to put loyalties. On the trust note, after reading Brendan Sander's Mistborn Trilogy and now this one, I'm realizing the power of trust and the devastation it causes when we don't have it. If your interested read Mistborn and the Fall of Fair Isle and you'll see what I mean.I've waited so long to read this book... thank you for reprinting it, it was wonderful xoxo

Books are missing from the archbishop's shelves and the librarian is helpless to explain until the culprit is revealed: Arcade, the clergyman's guardian angel, has been educating himself. Immersion in works of philosophy and science has convinced Arcade that God is a cruel tyrant. Revolution is the only answer, and Arcade joins a host of fallen angels to mount a rebellion that proposes to install Satan on the throne of heaven. This 1914 novel by Nobel laureate Anatole France offers a brilliant satire of war, government, and religion. Published on the eve of World War I, the fable voices an ever-resonant protest against violence and despotism. The author's sense of humor brings a remarkably contemporary air to the Paradise Lost scenario, and stunning black-and-white illustrations by Frank C. Papé complement the tale's fantasy elements.

My only dislike (and its a trivial one at that) isthe lack of an author biography that usually precedes the story. It gives the work a more relatable touch, that's all. Excellent book!

It's a bit stilted; written in the late 1800's/early 1900's. Hard to understand why the church thought this book might be a problem.

This critical history of Iain M. Banks' Culture novels covers the series from its inception in the 1970s to the The Hydrogen Sonata (2012), published less than a year before Banks' death. It considers Banks' origins as a writer, the development of his politics and ethics, his struggles to become a published author, his eventual success with The Wasp Factory (1984) and the publication of the first Culture novel, Consider Phlebas (1987). His 1994 essay "A Few Notes on the Culture" is included, along with a range of critical responses to the 10 Culture books he published in his lifetime and a discussion of the series' status as utopian literature. Banks was a complex man, both in his everyday life and on the page. This work aims at understanding the Culture series not only as a fundamental contribution to science fiction but also as a product of its creator's responses to the turbulent times he lived in.

17 of 18 people found the following review helpful. but I'm finding this retrospective on Iain's Culture novels quite good. I've read most By Ernest Lilley I'm only a few chapters in, so take this with a grain of salt, but I'm finding this retrospective on Iain's Culture novels quite good. I've read most, if not all of the Culture novels, and was very saddened by the author's death in 2013, so this book attracted me more than the usual academic treatment of a science fiction author does. Right off I discovered two things; First that Iain was someone I would have liked tremendously, full of fun and paradox, and, as I think Neal Gaiman says, "a good bloke." Secondly, that the Culture novels were an exploration of utopia, and not one of those utopias that's hell for other people, but one based on a reasonable society. That it's space opera that subverts the notion of right wing space opera, and that the conflict that the story needs to give it some backbone comes from the challenges the Culture receives from the other cultures it meddles with, and the self examination that this offers.I've enjoyed reading the novels, and now I'm enjoying the insight that Caori provides into what the Culture stands for and how Bank's thought. The central dilemma of the Culture, that doing the right thing is hard to do when "right" isn't proscribed by some apriori framework, is certainly relevant and resonant with me, and I hope many others. As the author of this critical work puts it, "We make our own meaning as we go, until we don't go anymore, because we all have to die, and our fury at the waning of the light ends in silence, like everything else; everything matters, and nothing does."Which seems to me to say that Banks wanted to find a way to reconcile the romantic and the rational in a way that would point out the possibility to the rest of us.As I said, I'm only partway in, but this work has already given me a better understanding of the books, and a clue as to why they've always seemed important as well as enjoyable. Now, back to our reading, already in progress.Ernest LilleyEditor Emeritus, SFRevu

Whatever June Coffin says, goes—literally. And it’s not just because she’s a chain smoking rebel. As a Siren, June has the ability to force people to obey any command she voices. But in a world where those with supernatural powers quickly become lab rats for science, she’d rather look out for herself than fight on the front lines…until her similarly gifted twin brother, Jason, is captured by Chicago’s Institute of Supernatural Research.    To save Jason, June has no choice but to enter a hidden world of conspiracy, murder—and strange bedfellows—including a widowed paranormal advocate whose memory June accidentally erased, and a fiery paranormal separatist leader. Soon the lines between attraction and strategic alliance become blurred. But in a city exploding with paranormal crossfire, and her brother’s life at stake, June will have to face her inner demons and finally take a stand.74,357 Words

Expected publication date: 3/3/2015 ***3..5 stars June, a Siren, falls under the category of paranormal but due to things that happened in her past, she has done everything she can to live a normal life, until she and her twin, Jason, get cajoled into going to Chicago and The Institute. Not long after they arrive things go to hell in a handbasket and June finds herself in the middle of a middle of a situation she spent her whole life trying to avoid.June was an interesting character and I can’t say that I didn’t like her, but there were quite a few moments where I had the urge to smack her. She could go from being a snarky badass to a sullen teenager in two seconds flat, and her lack of edit button could be off putting to some, but I still couldn’t help but like her. She just felt real. While she was strong, she wasn’t a total badass all the time and her reactions to some things were pretty funny. I also found it interesting how little she knew about the situation in Chicago, but it fit since she has done all she can to maintain a normal life. The rest of the cast of characters: Jason, Micha, Sam, Cindy, Muse, Robbie, Serendipity et al. All made the story fun to read, especially Cindy, They also served to give the world more depth because of the different roles they occupied in it. While this book/series is touted as paranormal romance, I’d classify it more as urban fantasy. There is a romantic element and a few sexy moments, but it’s not the main focus of this book and there are still a few things up in the air when it comes to that relationship, though I wouldn’t put it in total cliffhanger area.Overall, I enjoy this book, there were times it dragged due to the authors attention to detail, which was not a bad thing and I believe others may enjoy it quite a bit, so I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next for the Siren and her cohorts.

Recommended to Anyone That Likes Paranormal Books By Angel Hatfield **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review**June Coffin has what the scientists call a hypnotic voice phenomenon, or an invasive persuasion. June's twin brother's name is Jason and they are both sirens. June saw Micha Bellevue give a lecture at the Chicago Institute for Supernatural Research. She had been held captive there but broke out. June needed to get out of Chicago but couldn't until she got Jason out of the institute where he was being held captive. Micha was a paranormal activist but still believed in the institute. June is staying at Cindy's house while she tries to figure out a way to rescue Jason. Cindy's friend Robby is telepathic and also a powerful telekinetic. Cindy and Robby take June to see Sam Haain. he is the leader of the Paranormal Alliance. Sam has all kinds of connections within the city. Using an Oracle of Death, they are told not to go to the institute but to have him brought out in public instead and for him to get to Ethan Roberts. Ethan Roberts is the lead paranormal reporter for the Tribute. There is also the Secular Normalists of Chicago, a dastardly force that is spreading misinformation and blatant ignorance about paranormals.I feel June loves her brother and is very determined to rescue him even at the cost of her own life. Yet she's also very attracted to Micha although she also feels guilty as his wife was recently murdered trying to help June and Jason escape.I thoroughly enjoyed this story. There are a lot of turns that June goes through. I like the way the book ended. I would recommend the book to anyone that enjoys paranormal books.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great voice! By S. Patel This was definitely an entertaining novel. The thing that stood out to me the most was June's amazing voice (she's the only POV). The characters are well-written, the writing is great, and the story itself is interesting. There was a huge OMG moment about 75% of the way in, and I hadn't even realized I was that far into the book. A captivating book for sure.Just so you know upfront, it's a bit different than most HEA's. June and Mischa (her 'love' interest) do get together at the end, but they were never really apart because for most of the book they were having a casual relationship. Their story ended on a positive/optimistic note, but their saga continues so to speak (I'm assuming this will be a series). And although it was a casual relationship, there was tension between them, making you want to root for them. Also, June is a very tough/rough around the edges character, and at first, I had trouble relating/connecting to her. I realized part-way through that I wished she had a bit more vulnerability about her -- something softer that I could've emotionally related better to -- but that's highly specific to me and what I look for in a heroine. Those 2 things are probably the only things keeping it from a 5-star.I'd definitely recommend it for those looking for a different type of paranormal romance. Being that it's entertaining and well-written, it's worth it. It's a great start to what I'm sure will be an awesome series.

By DPGroberg SR Groberg creates an identifiable protagonist struggling to maintain his humanity, while slowly losing self control. She also adds a cast of colorful characters, from the dubious powerful Ardor, and the ever faithful Magdalena, to the effervescent Lillian, and thoughtful Ilena. Her strange and wonderful world holds a new landscape for the age old struggle to take place, but with new and imaginative twists. A thoroughly enjoyable read, that left me anxious for her next book.

RosenmanJordan and his crew are off to the `peaceful and idyllic planet' called Mira. The former crew of 14 on the former ship has been slaughtered. The last word spoken by the captain is screamed. `Dragons.'Most of Jordan's crew does not believe anything other than a relatively logical explanation . . . Yet strange things begin happening on the ship and during their explorations outside on the Eden-like beautiful world. Crew members act out of character, friends are not right somehow, not quite themselves. Arguments arise, tempers flare but before they can even begin to wonder why, even stranger developments happen on a daily basis. Crew members are as perplexed as their Captain Jordan. Even the experimental plants on board the ship act in a different way than ever before. First the crew was uneasy, now they're frightened of this unseen danger lurking among them.Jordan is perplexed and worried. The situation grows worse day by day. Nothing is as it seems -- until it's too late. The story builds the tension right to an ending that one just does not see coming.Renowned sci-fi author, John B. Rosenman, takes his readers on a horrific fast-paced journey leading up to a chilling ending that gives the reader something to think about. For Mira, a planet of chilling violence and incredible beauty lacks what it most needs. Sci-fi and horror lovers are going to really enjoy this story . . . Horrific and Fast-Paced Story By silver elves “Here Be Dragons” is what mapmakers used to write on areas of the ocean which were unknown and uncharted. Who knew what dangerous dragons lurked there? In this story, Captain Jordan and his crew travel across space to visit the planet Mira and find out what happened to the first crew there. I was reminded of Carpenter’s terrifying movie The Thing, but Rosenman takes it in new directions. One of my favorites and highly recommended.Martha Char Love, author of What's Behind Your Belly Button?: A Psychological Perspective of the Intelligence of Human Nature and Gut Instinct

The fourth volume in John Norman's epic Telnarian Histories describes the continuing rise to power of an unsung warrior thrown into the maelstrom of ambition, treachery, and violence that is the galactic empire When Filene, a former noblewoman masquerading as a slave, attempts to assassinate the ascendant tribal king, Ottonius, she fails and becomes fully enslaved. The story of her education in proper submission is told in counterpoint to the tale of the powerful but primitive warrior who finds himself drawn into intrigues affecting the destiny of a threatened and crumbling empire. This ambitious novel, written on an interstellar scale, follows the latest adventures of a man who has fought and killed his way out of obscurity to become a newly crowned king. As events unfold, he finds himself on a bloody and violent path that may lead to the imperial throne itself.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Gorean themed space opera with fantasy influences . . . fun, intriguing stuff By Bob Milne A little over 20 years ago John Norman stepped outside the world (if not the themes) of Gor and delivered a trilogy entitled the Telnarian Histories. Whereas the Gor novels were primarily fantasy epics tinged with science fiction elements, this new trilogy flipped that around, being more of a traditional space opera with fantasy influences. In terms of narrative, little has changed over the years, with The Usurper having the same sense of style that fans have become used to, but which may unsettle a new reader. Expository prose is often long and blocky, with descriptions that can stretch into a second page without a paragraph break, and the amount of detail surrounding the physical, mental, emotional, and psychological realities of slavery is often exhausting. That's not to say it isn't fascinating, or sometimes necessary to the plot, but it may take some readers deeper into a submissive mindset than they're comfortable with. Dialogue is often very formal, carefully structured and delivered as if for an audience, with little of the casual banter we so often expect of the genre. Again, that's not a flaw or a complaint, just an observation on what makes Norman's writing unique. Overall, however, the prose here is stronger and more polished than what fans may be used to, with phrases like "the airless, lonely, nigh-vacant deserts between world" having an almost poetic quality to them. The world-building is exceptionally strong here, as it was in the Gor saga, with a fully realized history of conquest and rebellion. Culturally, there are significant Greco-Roman influences to the story, but there's also a bit of a Conan-esque flavor to Ottonius, the barbarian King. It's really with the philosophies of sadomasochism and the spirituality of submission that the story comes alive. However, in an era where BDSM has very much become a part of pop-culture, Norman's ideas are hardly as shocking or taboo as they once were. That's something of a double-edged sword for the Telnarian Histories, as the novelty (and some of the attraction) for old fans is gone, while new fans demand something more than mere taboo titillation. It's a cultural shift that has forced Norman to focus more of his attention on the storyline and the characters, with The Usurper being one of his strongest, most complete tales yet. This is a book that's heavy on the history and the cultural composition of the world, with a mysterious narrator often acting in the role of teacher or advisor to the reader. Part of that is necessary to allow new readers to catch up on what's gone before, but part of it is also deliberate world building. As for our hero, Ottonius, he has grown and evolved significantly from what I remember. Instead of the cold prototypical Norman protagonist, he has acquired some of the rough-edged charm and black humor common to pulp adventure heroes like Conan. Filene is a remarkable character as well, perhaps the most well-developed female character Norman has written. She begins the story masquerading as a slave, in order to get close and assassinate Ottonius, but we also get glimpses of the free woman behind the mask. Of course, she's very quickly found out, turning that masquerade into a reality, but she retains a spark of personality that only grows brighter as the tale continues. There's more of conflict to The Usurper than I remember from any of the Gor novels as well, which is sure to appeal to fans of more militaristic science fiction and fantasy. Alien technology, starships, blockades, sieges, and battles dominate much of the second half of the book. This is very much Otto's tale and Otto's conflict, with him at the center of it all, but we do get a much wider view of the war and how it impacts the characters around him. There are some long, slow periods of prose before we get to the conflict, and Norman still interrupts the action to share the insights of slaves and masters on their role in the battle, but overall I found this to have a much faster paced story, with a better balance of plot and philosophy. Politically, it's a sharper tale as well, with great attention devoted to the affairs of rulers and captains, which helps bring it all together. If you've ever found yourself curious about John Norman's work, then The Usurper is a great place to begin. Even though it's the fourth book of the Telnarian Histories, it can still be read as a standalone title, which is almost necessary with a 20 year gap. If, like myself, you always saw this saga as a weaker sort of cousin to the Gor novels, then you're likely to be pleasantly surprised. However, if you're deeply offended by his social philosophies or his depiction of women, and aren't interested in the 'how' and 'why' of his world . . . well, this isn't going to change your mind.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Intense storyline with deep characterization By Michele Douglas “The Usurper”(Telnarian Histories)John NormanThis is the fourth book in the Telnarian series where we continue to see the transformation of Ottonius, everyone’s beloved barbarian warrior. He may now be leader of his own people, but it clear that others fear him; especially those of the Empire. The Empire sends a free woman disguised as a slave to assassinate him. When she does not succeed, Captain Ottonius realizes that he must find the persons responsible for sending the assassin. Along with his most trusted advisors, he leaves his home on a journey to discover his heritage and uncover the power he possesses that can affect the empire.Filene, a formal noble woman, currently a free woman is sent on a mission to kill Ottonius the tribal King. She is provided the knife and the cover. She enters the camp disguised as a slave and attempts to use her feminine wiles to attract Ottonius for him to take her to his tent. When he falls for the trap, she is thrust into his tent to await his arrival. She is nervous and excited all at once. When he enters, she is unaware that he is already on to her and is playing along to see what happens. He locates the knife she had stashed and sends her to be turned into a true slave, stripped of her freedom as easily as she is stripped of her clothing. My thoughts:At first, I had a problem getting through the book because I wanted more dialogue and less history lessons. However, I understand now that the history is necessary, because it reminds the reader about a character or situation that may have happened in another book or time. This helps to center the reader, rather than leaving them trying to remember this or that character or circumstance.Regarding the story, I like Ottonius. Regardless of what his role is in society, he is first and foremost a barbarian and he never apologizes for it. He sees that barbarism can be found in the form of shield and sword, or in the form of treachery and corruption. He is used to one on one combat, not backstabbing, but he eventually discovers that the way to prevent corruption is to throw yourself into the path of it.As a woman, I had issues with the way they referred to the free women and mostly the slaves. Then, I thought about what I believe the author may be trying to convey. To me it seems as though the free women were the ones that were confined. They were slaves to their culture, looking and acting a certain way, watching how they speak and to whom, etc.The slave women had the most freedom even while sitting naked with collars on at the feet of the men. The slave women were celebrated for their femininity. The men coveted and protected their slaves more so than any free women. The women were exposed naked to the world that they lived in. They had nothing to hide and could be themselves. They could accept and embrace their sexual, sensual sides without fear of being judged.I enjoyed the way the author never left any stone unturned. Each character had his or her role to play in the plot of the story. I don’t remember any characters that were introduced but not played out. In the end, everything made sense to me. The storyline was wrapped up nicely and left with an opening, of course, for what the next book might be about, if there is to be one.I would say if it is too hard for the reader to get past at what first appears as the degradation of the slaves, then this is probably not the book for you. However, if you, like myself, can see past that, you are in for an excellent story with deep characterization.Review by Michele DouglasFull Disclosure: I was provided and ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

It is literally a “workbook” filled with tools and tips and hands on lessons to help you in your social media marketing. After giving you’re the details of how to best make use of each social network, you then can actively do the lessons for your own site. Each lesson has one or more free downloadable worksheets to go with it.There’s info on a wide variety of the main social networks, including LinkedIn and Yelp, that I’ve not found elsewhere, such as using Industry Trade Shows to find relevant hashtags for your own marketing which is a brilliant idea by the way. It’s also a large resources for helpful and less known utility site. For example https:// tagdef.com was one I was completely unaware of. It lets you define hashtags before you use them.Because of the depth and quality of information given this book and Jason's SEO Fitness Workbook: 2015 Edition: The Seven Steps to Search Engine Optimization Success on Google are my favorite go to resources.Nancy

Biggest bang for your buck in terms of gaining industry knowledge, resources and information you can use quickly and immediately By LATurner I took a job doing social media marketing for a company that wanted to move aggressively in their campaign. I had several years experience managing social media dashboards but I felt in over my head once I learned just how deep this company wanted to go. I needed deeper information than just the basics and I needed to read and learn it fast. I didn't have a lot of hope finding anything because the there is a lot of material out there and I've probably waded through 4-5 dozen different resources over the years thinking it's all the same. I stumbled upon Jason McDonald's book, "Social Media Marketing Workbook" several months ago and got a sample version sent to my kindle. I was so blown away by the LEGIT resources and "insider information" about the mechanics of SMM that there was no question I needed to read the rest of it. Most of the material out there on this topic is what I call "fluff" because it's repetitive and only skims the surface. Mr. McDonald goes deep into factual information about the way specific elements in SMM work and how they weave into other elements. He cuts to the chase and doesn't water everything down with a bunch of big marketing phrases most people reading wouldn't understand. The layout is super simple and allows you to skip forward or fall back as you need to...BUT Mr. McDonald ALSO lays out an amazing strategy to follow from beginning to end that will quickly set you miles apart in terms of understanding the industry. I have been fortunate to review Mr. McDonald's most recent update to his book and it only gets better. There are very few authors that I will seek out repeatedly for information but Mr. McDonald is one of those because he delivers the biggest bang for your buck and it's not fluff...it's real, tried and true information and resources that may otherwise take you years to discover or learn.

By nhvideoguy As a small business, social media marketing was just one more thing on a long list of things to do. All the screen shots make it easy to see what he's talking about -- and the links to changing information make it a 'living document' for when something changes. Spoon is drawn to a new life and a noble cause in Altrea. As he trains to join the fight, he learns that he's capable of far more than he ever knew possible. With a sword and the powers contained in verve stones, Spoon becomes a hero.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A great first book by a developing author. By Derek Hanson The Verve Stones is the first work I have read by James Aries. It is both an easy to read story as well as fun to follow. I am well outside the target demographic but I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the characters and the world that the author created. The only critique I had was the ending, I am not use to reading authors while the series is being developed. The ending left me wanting to move to the next book in the series and it is not out yet; looking forward to that change!I enjoyed this book and look forward to more books by James Aries.P.S. if you don't know his web page has different details about works under development https://jamesaries.wordpress.com/

Full of twists, suspense, and dynamic characters; Aries hits it out of the park with Verve Stones By Robin Puelma AHHH JUST finished Verve Stones and can't say enough good things about it. If you love how Tolkein created complex worlds, unique creatures, and intricate backstories, then you're going to love Verve Stones. Aries paints such a detailed picture of his world, drawing you in with his one-of-a-kind features (verve stones; brasa; moondoggies; Soul-Stealers; etc.), and keeps you turning the pages with a fast paced story line, detailed battle scenes, and strong characters. I specifically love the character arch of Spoon (and all his quirky, lovable details)--and the CLIFF HANGER at the end! Can't WAIT for the next book to come out!

Marvel just loves starting over again...and again...and again. Just let a title run it's course, or just create a bunch of mini-series. Anyway, I've been very happy with this title up to this point. This book isn't terrible, but it gets bogged down by issues that took place in other titles (Inhumanity). I didnt read Inhumanity, so I didnt get the full effect of the story. But even looking past that, it felt like a half-hearted effort in general. Just more Banner being jealous of Stark. It was relevant early in the series, but it moved past that for a while. I'm sure Waid knew the series.was.coming to an end, so he didn't get to end it how he'd have liked. Who knows? Read volumes 1-3 and you're good. This volume is for the completist IMO.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It's Only Inhuman... By Clarence A. Dillard, Jr. With the destruction of Attilan, the Inhumans' reserves of terrigen mist have been unleashed upon an unsuspecting populace. Anyone with even the slightest bit of Inhuman DNA is in danger of transforming into an unimaginable assortment of beasts, mutated humans, or even a super-powered hero like the Kamala Kahn Ms. Marvel. Leading the charge for a cure is Bruce Banner and his think tank of scientists at SHIELD. However, when it's revealed that Banner's cure is in the form of yet another bomb, the Avengers have visions of gamma disaster that created the Hulk. In other words, Iron Man, Beast, and Ant-Man typically act before they speak and massive carnage ensues. Unfortunately for one of Banner's team, the cure unlocks their latent Inhuman potential and is transformed into a ferocious monster that feeds on anger. How will the Hulk be able to stop the newest member of the Inhuman family when this new foe keeps siphoning away any trace of rage and continuously reverts the Hulk back into a human? For once, Bruce Banner will have to save the day! This volume marks the end of the Stan Lee/ Jack Kirby Hulk. Up next are the reality changing events of Secret Wars that reboots the original Marvel Universe in DC Comics Crisis fashion for the first time ever. Unfortunately, the ending left me really confused as the volume ends with a cliffhanger and the promise to be continued in Hulk #1! What Hulk #1 is it? Is it Totally Awesome Hulk which star wunderkind Amadeus Cho taking on the role of the Green Goliath? Or is the answers to the end of this series found in one of the many one-shots and miniseries that accompany the Secret Wars storyline? For the sake of spoilers, I've not been able to find out what happens next. (But, folks, if you know- please feel free to spill the beans. Because I have to know what happens next!) Another Marvel NOW! triumph by Mark Waid with a cool Bruce Banner/ Tony Stark team-up by Jeff Parker. Worth Consuming Rating: 8 out of 10 stars.

You see, he wants to be known for more than just breaking things as the Hulk, he wants to be known as one of earth's greatest scientific minds and a contributor to man's good and advancement. He just can't seem to catch a break, though, because every time he develops some new tech breakthrough and is about to unveil it Tony Stark or Hank Pym or Reed Richards just beats him to the punch. This seriously bums him out so when Black Bolt sets off the massive earth-affecting terrigen bomb (happened outside of these pages) that is now transforming unknown earthlings into early Inhumans Banner builds a "humanity bomb", something that counters the terrigenesis and uses the Hulk to deliver it. Meanwhile, one of his own staffers gets turned into an Inhuman who fees off of psychic emotional energy and the aforementioned eggheads oppose Banner exploding his weapon ("A bomb? Why's it always a bomb with you, Bruce?"). I'll admit that the idea for the story is actually pretty good but the execution is rather dull.Apparently this collection collects the end of this series. Why Marvel has done all of these start-stops to so many characters I don't know but it is a bit maddening.

By Snowbunny1977 She goes back in time to save Syn's life...when she gets back there he doesn't remember anything at first then supposedly does. I swear that Cheryl is the most gullible person ever! Especially concerning her sister but anyways. Still dont trust that crazy dude. Jet's no better til later. This series is all over the place. It makes no freaking sense. I get what she is writing thats not it...I just dont understand her thinking how this possibly works cause it really doesnt. Its back and forth. One is psych but he's not...then the other one is psycho then not. Nothing but head games or something. Thats not what we want. We dont wanna have to figure this crap out. LOL.

Madness in Solidar: The new novel in the New York Times bestselling Imager Portfolio by L. E. Modesitt, Jr. Four centuries after its founding, Solidar's Collegium of Imagers is in decline, the exploits of its founder, the legendary Quaeryt, largely forgotten. The Collegium is so lacking in leadership that the dying Maitre must summon Alastar, an obscure but talented senior imager from Westisle far to the south who has little knowledge of politics in the capital, as his successor. When Alastar arrives in L'Excelsis and becomes the new Maitre, he finds disarray and lack of discipline within the Collegium, and the ruler of Solidar so hated by the High Holders that they openly refer to him as being mad. To make matters worse, neither Rex Ryen, ridiculed as Rex Dafou, nor the High Holders have any respect for the Collegium, and Alastar finds himself in the middle of a power struggle, with Ryen demanding that the Collegium remove the strongest High Holders and the military leadership in turn plotting to topple Ryen and destroy the Collegium. At the same time, Ryen is demanding the High Holders pay a massive increase in taxes while he initiates a grandiose building project. And all that, Alastar discovers, is only a fraction of the problems he and the Collegium face.

As such the development of the main character is not as well rounded as it could be. Some of the intrigue is a bit hard to follow and the author expects you to fill in the piecesAs an other reviewer stated looking forward to another book on the series that is equal of the first 8 books.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Not my favorite... By Kindle Customer Long term fan of the author and I have just about all his books...; I've been particularly taken with the Imager series and had waited impatiently for this latest installment.... only to be a bit disappointed in it. I wasn't as engaged with the protagonist as in previous novels in the series and I didn't find the plot very interesting....it seemed incomplete; it's easily my least favorite of the Imager series. He's still a great author and I'm hoping for better next time!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Good, solid By Amazon Customer Not quite your typical Modessitt fare: Good, solid, well-polished as always, but with a different character development arc; I like the focus character a lot - he's unusual for a Modessitt lead. He arrives on-scene in the fullness of his powers, and has a solid and varried history which plays into the story development. For a change, you don't follow the 'hero's journey' development arc through several books - This is one-and-done. While I saw much of the story coming, that's mostly because I'm very familliar with Modessitt's work - He's a favorite author of mine.Heartily recommended!
