"There are things that go bump in the night, Mr. MacMillian. It's my job to bump back." Private detective Jesper MacMillian is sure he's seen it all. Following a long recovery after a horrific accident, his life is finally the way he wants it- or at least, close enough. The only monsters on his radar are the ones that keep him awake at night. When a grief-stricken couple begs him to find their lost son, it seems like just another day at the office. Lena Alan is your friendly neighborhood medium. She sees ghosts, she talks to ghosts, and when necessary, she keeps them from interfering in the world of the living. A city like San Francisco has more than enough ghosts to keep her busy, but a shocking visitation puts her on a collision course with MacMillian and his newest case. Before MacMillian can brace for impact, Lena drags him into a world where monsters aren't just real, they're hiding in plain sight. A deadly threat is lurking in San Francisco's dangerous underbelly, and it's going to take both of them to put it down. For Lena, it's another day at the office. For MacMillian, it's the beginning of the end of everything he thinks he knows.

A World Apart: Shades Below, #1, by L.J.K. Oliva

Review "I haven't read a book this well written in a long while." (Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock)"The characters are real and gritty. Throw in the paranormal aspect with ghosts and BAM! It's fantastic!" (Dowie's Place)"I recommend A World Apart to readers who like books with ghosts, witches, and necromancers mixed with private investigation and a little romance." (Books That Hook)

About the Author L.J.K. Oliva is the devil-may-care alter-ego of noir romance novelist Laura Oliva.  She likes her whiskey strong, her chocolate dark, and her steak bloody.  L.J.K. likes monsters... and knows the darkest ones don't live in closets.

Good story, great writting style By stefy66000 Rating: 3,5-4/5>In this story you have two worlds with their codes and beliefs that collide (You can even said three, if you add the world of ‘normal’ lambda human). On one side, you have Jesper MacMillian, a private detective, still adjusting to the loss of his leg and his brother, who is trying to avoid the inheritance of his family. He is a rom, appointed to take his grandfather’s place as the King, but refusing and rejecting that part of his life. At the beginning of the story, we get a glimpse of the communitarianism of the rom and I hope we will see more of it in the future books. On the other side, you have Lena Alan. She is a strong, funny heroine. She is a medium that can talk to ghosts and help them to leave our plan. I really liked what we saw of the witches’ community. It’s a secret community apart from the normal world (rather similar to the roms in a way) that keeps the ‘normal’ humans safe from everything that “bump in the night”.Then one day, a rom, excluded from his community, is killed. While the ghost seeks Lena for help, the parents of Jimmy (the victim) go to Jesper to find their missing son. And then, Lena and Jesper met.During the investigations, we met Mark Durban, a police detective. As a whole, I really liked this story. It’s really well written and made you wish you don’t have to put it down until the very last sentence. In fact, I read it in one sitting, that prove how good and engaging the story and the style were for me. :) When I started to read I was really excited and if I had to rate for the first parts and most of the rest to the end of the book, it would have been a five stars. There is just something in the middle that Lena did that just froze my poor little “Fleur Bleue” (sentimental, romantic) heart. But it’s just me. In a way, it made her more real I suppose, I just didn’t like it.(Don't read between the spoiler marks to avoid it)Lena is instantly attracted to Durban upon meeting him. Jesper warned her to not trust him but she just became angry and went ahead. While I could have easily accept the dating of someone else than the hero it wasn’t real dating here. It was just a drink and jump in bed. From what feelings I had of the character of Lena that just didn’t seem to fit. I didn’t see her as someone sleeping around with the first man that cross her path she is attract to. I was really disappointed but read that scene waiting for the stop or something happening for it to not happen but no, they had sex. I had to force myself to not skip ahead each time the Durban guy was in the same room as Lena after that. That’s where the story lost 1.5 star.As a whole either way, I really recommend the story. This book is the first part of a series. While the bad guy pays for his crimes in the end, don’t expect the 'happy ending' between the heroes. It will probably come in the future books. A WORLD APART contains a couple of scenes not suitable for children. Mature audience only.*~I received this book for free in exchange for a honest review.~*

And it was there that I fell in love with her winning personality. And at that very facebook party, I won this very book. And when I did, I instantly ask her, can I please do an interview and review of her, and she said she would be honored. So here it is!First, I want to say, I couldn’t put it down. But I have that problem with a lot of books, especially if they are well written, and something along a topic I like. And this was one of them. Paranormal romance, where the world can take you just about anywhere.Lena Alan is a medium and Jesper Mac Millian is a private detective that Lena ends up dragging into her life where she can feel, see, and sense things from the other side.Lena knows there is something about to be happening in San Francisco. And she knows she just can’t handle it alone. A recent case has led her to find a missing child named Jimmy, and what better way to find the missing, than with a P.I.What you end up learning about Jesper is that he has lost his leg and his brother in his past. And the part I like best, though, is that Jes has no problem taking on ghosts. He accepts them with no problems, unlike the rest of the world. Jesper himself, is quite a unique person. But the part of this story that really threw me, is the character Mark Durban. He seems to not want Mark and Lena to work together, and even Lena suspects something but can’t quite figure it out.The book ends as a cliff hanger, but that is meant to lead you into the upcoming book.If you have ever watched the TV Show “The Medium” starring “Patricia Arquette” who plays the starring role as Allison Dubois, you will end up recalling and even missing that show. I end up picturing Lena as Patricia and Jesper as “David Cubitt” who played the ever sexy Lee Scanlon.I found this book very intriguing, and I enjoyed every little minute of it. It was more than the average paranormal romance, it is also a mystery thriller too. I give this book: “A World Apart (Shades Below #1)” to be a definite five star book. If you haven’t read it yet, it’s a book that will surely keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more!

The paranormal world of ghosts in a whole new light! A unique take on how spirits remain around us and what it could mean if you can see them. A lot of this book is based on getting MacMillian to learn and believe in the paranormal and the rest is getting Lena to save the day, as well as herself. Because spirits are needing help, but it could also harm a lot of live people in the process. :)Lene is freaking hilarious! Her comments, out loud, about testosterone, and crazy snarky things she says made me absolutely love this book. She is this tiny little thing of a girl is a bad ass. She knows her way around the spirit world, and she also knows her way around the tea world as well. She's got a little magic up her sleeve and she's one of the coolest heroines I've ever read.Jesper MacMillian is a gypsy, who is also a private investigator. He doesn't want his Romany King status, so he his trying to keep busy with his investigation business, which leads him to Lena. Who blows his ever loving mind. I LOVED IT. He was constantly surprised and then who have to rethink his whole thought process. And I also think he has a crush on Lena, but he's too prideful or stubborn or whatever to tell her. I seriously hope book two gives me something between them! And he's got his own trouble, with an accident, and a loss, so maybe that has a little to do with his holding back. There's some great side characters. A priest, a knight, Lena's brother, the cop Durbin. I really enjoyed the plot. A little mystery, with some paranormal aspects. Some great run arounds and scary ghostly possessions. With a side of zombie! I can't wait for book two. The writing was great and this is a wonderful start to a new series! 5 Ghostly PAWS!!

There is a world of information out there about how to create a do -it-yourself website, but it's easy to get lost with SO much data. This little book is a gem, as it helps even the cyberspace illiterates (like me) to grasp an overall sense of what it takes to get your online presence out there. Where to start, how to get help, etc, all in simple, clear, step by step style. AND not just websites, but blogs, social media, videos, etc. The perfect jumping off place for non-techies like me. The title says it all: this book will help you permanently banish your back pain. In two logical volumes, it shows you how to feel better. The first part makes it easy for you to understand your back pain. Using simple, clear language, it explains the structure of your spine, and demystifies many common pain-provoking conditions. The second part offers a unique quiz that will help you to classify your injury into one of four types. In this way, you will learn how to cure your pain, not someone else’s. Then the advice flows thick and fast. You will learn clever techniques that will help you to use your spine more efficiently, and discover how to think, eat, relax, and sleep away your pain. You’ll also find useful information on exercises, x-rays, medication and muscles, plus some tips on how to choose a spinal health practitioner. Back Pain: How to Get Rid of It Forever (Volume 1: The Causes), by John Perrier

Review REVIEW ONE This book is a comprehensive account of back pain offering a clear insight into this often complex topic. It offers the reader a genuine guide to managing this condition without the spurious "miracle cure". His breezy, conversational style takes the reader through a number of the most important related issues including posture, exercise, diet and stress. He then deftly reviews current treatments and fads, exploding a few myths on the way.   The end result? One of the most informative surveys of back pain to date. This is a must read for anyone who wants to be in control of one of the most out of control topics in current health care. Graham Sanders B.App.Sc (osteopathy) Grad Dip MedSc President Australian Osteopathic Association (Qld)  REVIEW TWO   John Perrier has written the best self-help back book I have ever read. It's based on a mix of John's own methods for managing and preventing your own pain, and the most recent scientific data. I recommend it without reservation.   Keith Charlton, Dr of Chiropractic, MACA Former Governor of Australian Spinal Research Foundation, President Australian Chiropractors Association (Qld) and Honorary Fellow of the Division of Science & Technology at Griffith University

From the Author 'Back Pain: How to Get Rid of it Forever' was first completed in 1999. At the time I owned and ran two physiotherapy clinics, but could not find a back pain prevention book to recommend to my patients. So I decided to write one!  The trouble with the other books on the market that although many of them were very well written, they all gave the same advice to every sufferer, regardless of his or her condition. This strategy was as silly as an optometrist giving every patient the same set of eye glasses. So I developed a classification quiz to help readers identify their back pain type, and tailored different advice and exercises for each one.  'Back Pain' was originally published by Hale and Iremonger in Australia, and sold out its original print run.  Unfortunately the publishers closed their doors soon thereafter, so title was transferred to the JP Publishing Australia imprint. I recently updated 'Back Pain', reformatting and optimising it as a two volume E-Book. The new editions also reflect advances in the treatment of back pain, so readers can be assured they are getting the very best advice.

From the Inside Flap Back pain: How to get rid of it Forever.   The title says it all: this book will help you permanently banish your back pain. In two logical volumes, it shows you how to feel better.   The first volume makes it easy for you to understand your back pain. Using simple, clear language, it explains the structure of your spine, and demystifies many common pain-provoking conditions.   The second book  offers a unique quiz that will help you to classify your injury into one of four types. In this way, you will learn how to cure your pain, not someone else's. Methods that cure your neighbor's back pain won't necessarily help you. In fact, they may even make you worse!   In the past, it was difficult to tell what advice and exercises suited each spine. Even x-rays and expensive scans were no help, for although they could sometimes pinpoint the injury, they couldn't predict which activities would hurt it. Nor could they explain how to fix it!   This difficulty was often reflected in the advice and exercises that were prescribed for back pain. Often this information was the same for every person, regardless of their problem.   How would you feel if you went to an optometrist for an eye check up, only to receive a standard set of lenses from the shelf? Pretty annoyed, I would think. Yet this is frequently what happens with back pain. No wonder it affects about 80% of people, and has an alarmingly high reoccurrence rate.   So what can you do?  In this book, John Perrier has devised a system for classifying back pain into one of four types, labeled as either A, B, C or D.  By using this system, you have a far better chance of garnering the right advice for your problem.   After that, the advice flows thick and fast. You will learn clever techniques that will help you to use your spine more efficiently, and discover how to think, eat, relax, and sleep away your pain.  You'll also find useful information on exercises, x-rays, medication and muscles, plus some tips on how to choose a spinal health practitioner. Of course, all of the advice will be tailored to your specific problem.   Because the cure uses well-proven techniques, your relief won't just last a few days or weeks. You will feel better forever.

It was very helpful at the time, and although my back isn’t too bad these days, I thought it was worth a refresher course. My well-thumbed paperback has long disappeared into the void of “loaned out books never to be seen again” so I spent a couple of dollars on the 2-volume e-version.They reminded me of many points I’d long since forgotten. I particularly like the section in Volume 2 on exercise – it’s so positive, and a good reminder that we really have to keep moving. The mental and psychological aspects also receive thorough treatment. It’s all written with subtle humour and in a very readable style. But the most important thing that re-reading this book really did was to remind me of what a positive effect it had on my life. My back pain went from a daily score of about 8/10 to about 3/10, which is very manageable in comparison. I am very grateful that I read it, and although I’m not a doctor, I am confident that most sufferers of back pain would gain similar benefit.

It discusses only the causes of back pain, with the cures being outlined in volume 2. Having said that, the author is upfront about this, and, what’s more, it was free, so I’m not going to deduct any marks for this.In general, this was a very complete summary of the causes of back pain. I’ve read some similar books before, but this one covered it better than most. In particular, the nerve section was very comprehensive, and, as I suffer from sciatica, this was very interesting. The language was chatty and simple, and easily understood. In summary, it was a great introduction to the first step in understanding my back pain.

The only draw back is that it is only volume 1 and you have to buy vol 2 to get the real info. But it's a good start.

In part it reads like it was drafted by the Microsoft Windows 10 team, but the number of misspellings and grammatical errors contraindicated that. There was little of real value to a new user or someone considering whether or not to upgrade to W-10. There must be much better book on this subject available!

On the eve of self-destruction, a desperate faction of humanity established a fledgling colony on a ringed planet they christened Elpída. They were unprepared, however, to face the reality of its natural inhabitants — an incorporeal and hive-minded race of beings Who manifested Themselves as the very essence and fabric of human thought. Now Evelyn Feelds — no colonist by choice — fights for life and sanity in the midst of the planet's rogue elements and the overwhelming sway of the Multitude's song, grim and interwoven with the faces and names of people she scarcely remembers. A surreal flash of blinding light, inextricably bound with the certitude of the colony's destruction, is all that remains of her mind. The victim of an assuredly slow death, Evelyn knows her body won't survive. But, fragile as it is, her mind yet struggles for some measure of sentience until the end, clinging to the Voices of the Multitude — if only to assure her that she will not die alone, her thoughts unheard. But the Multitude have Themselves developed a vested interest in humanity's survival as a whole. They do not believe in the rumors, now lying dormant in Evelyn's mind, of Earth's supposed destruction. And so Evelyn, guided by Ulexi and Uvaro — two voices in the Chorus, two melodies of the Song — unexpectedly finds herself the focal point of a strange and savage struggle, waged a between rogues and races, heads and hearts, for the good of all humanity — if humanity, Earth-side, still exists at all.

Not to be misseed By James David Audlin I had the pleasure of reading this novel in draft, and - speaking as the author of some twenty published books - I was impressed with the maturity and intelligence of this, the first novel of someone young enough to be a granddaughter of mine! I heartily recommend it, and not just to those who like science fiction, but to those who enjoy high-quality fiction. And, as for me, I'm looking forward to the sequel!

Engaging and Epic By Hayden A great book that engages the reader on all levels, the book is right on par with works like Ender's Game and other futuristic fantasies. I highly recommend this book for people of all ages and reader's who appreciate highly sophisticated and involved texts. Beautifully written and thoughtfully engrossing, I cannot wait for a sequel.

Her characters are complex and dynamic in their struggles. The plot is wonderfully motivating, with action and philosophy seamlessly interwoven. The introspective narrative style allows for reflection, not only on the story, but on how the characters reach beyond the pages of the novel. This is a wonderful first novel from a young author, and I look forward to the release of the next book.

From the Back Cover

The third edition of Haskell: The Craft of Functional Programming is essential reading for beginners to functional programming and newcomers to the Haskell programming language. The emphasis is on the process of crafting programs and the text contains many examples and running case studies, as well as advice on program design, testing, problem solving and how to avoid common pitfalls.

Revisions to this new edition include new material on testing and domain-specific languages and a variety of new examples and case studies, including simple games. Existing material has been expanded and re-ordered, so that some concepts - such as simple data types and input/output - are presented at an earlier stage. The running example of Pictures is now implemented using web browser graphics as well as lists of strings.

The book uses GHCi, the interactive version of the Glasgow Haskell Compiler, as its implementation of choice. It has also been revised to include material about the Haskell Platform, and the Hackage online database of Haskell libraries. In particular, readers are given detailed guidance about how to find their way around what is available in these systems.

An accompanying web site supports the book, containing all the program code, further teaching materials and other useful resources. By Miax Pros :1. very well explained with many pictures and examples.2. based on Haskell 2010(third edition)Cons :Learning Haskell is like learning C. Many of the language features are really easy, but some key features are challengeable. When learning C, most of syntax/semantics except arrays and pointers can be learnt within few days, or even hours. But then, you would have hard time to master pointers, arrays and memory management, etc.Haskell is not that different. Basic arithmetic, functions, types, pattern matching, guards and even recursions, you could learn in short time. But type classes, lambdas(especially, those reductions) are a bit harder and finally, monads can be very frustrating.I am generally satisfied with the contents of the book, but his explain about lambdas and monads is a bit sparely. I think, he worried about to introduce mathematics(especially, lambda calculus and category theory). But, the functional languages are different than those imperative languages, in that its root is pure mathematics. They have a small set of simple yet powerful rules, which enables many neat tricks, and many of the tricks actually come from mathematical thinking. When you want to fully understand and to use the functional languages properly, basic theories are somewhat unavoidable. Actually, you don't need to know such as undecidability, model theory or constructive logic, etc. but the basics of (untyped-/typed-)lambda calculus(especially those of reductions, evaluation orders and some of their theorems), category theory(monad is a bit hard here, because it lies in the deep sea of category theory, but functors, for example, can be easily explained) is very helpful for thinking about higher order things and its practical use. Also, you don't need so much effort to learn only the basics of them. Without that they are explained sufficiently, the tutorial is teaching only the subset of Haskell.Don't get me wrong, this book is the most nearly complete Haskell introductory text out there with the support of Haskell 2010. I wrote the insufficient parts, because it could be the 'complete' introduction to Haskell, when the author didn't avoid the whole theory parts. And since I have read his "Type Theory & Functional Programming", I have an impression that he can present the theories easily understandable. When this part is supplemented, it can be compared to the legendary (and most complete) "C programming : A modern approach" by K.N.King in Haskell world. So, despite of the cons, I'll give 5 stars, because it is actually much better than other Haskell books.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Good first read of Haskell By patrick j. lynch It is more attuned to a university student rather than a software professional trying to learn Haskell."Learn You a Haskell For Great Good!", I feel is a better first book for the software professional. But both books are excellent. Finally, I wish one of the Haskell authors would give a pragmatic description of Category Theory.Category Theory is a "tough nut" to crack.

It took strong women like Hope’s mother to stand up and fight back. Airships flourished and the fighting was fast, violent and took strong pilots like Hope to fight the invasion. By Claire Alfeo Paper Dolls is set in a future where after humanity finally discovers how to not continue destroying Earth and how to stop killing each other and live harmoniously; humanity finds itself in the midst of a war with aliens. In a world bereft of all men, the women step forward to rule and fight back and out of those women a most unlikely heroine named Hope emerges. Rue Volley has once again created a wonderful captivating story filled with realistic well written characters and a very interesting and poignant tale. I can only describe this story as beautiful, and a must read!My only complaint? I finished reading it way too quick and wished I had more of it!

Best PDF Ebook Streaming Dawn: A Story of the Fated Blades, by Steve Bein

The riveting story of a legendary magic sword, two rivals for a seat in a warlord's court, and a ninja who must use her own magic blade to complete her mission and keep herself alive. Brimming with rich historical details, Streaming Dawn places the reader deep into ancient Japan, when warriors fought with deadly sharp weapons - and even sharper wits - in their quests for power. Lord Itsumi Akiyama is in trouble. He was a conspirator in the murder of Oda Nobunaga, Japan's most powerful warlord in 1582. Worse, he is responsible for the death of a disciple of the Wind, Japan’s deadliest ninja clan. Enter Kaida, the Wind’s most dangerous agent. She seeks to avenge her fallen protégé, but there is a complication: once she kills Akiyama, the Wind must figure out how to replace him. He occupies a key position in the inner circle of Oda’s successor, Hashiba Hideyoshi, who is set to conquer all of Japan. The Wind wants a puppet next to Hideyoshi, and Kaida is tasked with putting that puppet in place. Kaida resents her assignment. The chosen puppet is Itsumi Kyusaku, brother and successor to Akiyama. Kyusaku took part in the murder of Kaida’s protégé, and so Kaida wants him dead. But his only rival for the position in Hideyoshi’s council is Okuma TetsurĹŤ, a samurai with a bounty on his head—a bounty placed by the Wind. Kaida respects Okuma and has no desire to kill him. Moreover, she’s not even sure she can. His sword, Glorious Victory Unsought, is a legendary Inazuma blade. With it, Okuma is undefeatable. But Kaida has a blade of her own. Streaming Dawn can fend off death itself, though at a bitter cost. It might even defend her from Glorious Victory Unsought, if she and Okuma should cross swords. So armed, she takes on the most difficult mission of her career. She cannot allow Kyusaku to come to power, but if she allows Okuma to rise in his stead, it will be Kaida’s head on the chopping block. Since she cannot choose Kyusaku and she cannot choose Okuma, Kaida has no choice but to do what she does best: achieve the impossible, proving herself once again to be the Wind’s canniest, deadliest ninja. This companion novella to the Fated Blades series finds beloved characters from those novels in a new and dangerous adventure set in medieval Japan. Bein's talent for combining rich historic detail with powerful action and magic is yet again on display in this intriguing historical fantasy read. Fans of the Fated Blades series will enjoy revisiting their favorite characters, and for those new to the series, it's the perfect place to dive into centuries of intrigue, magic, honor, and swordplay.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Fantastic! By Amazon Customer Fantastic story! I would recommend any one of Steve Bein's books and this one doesn't disappoint.Readers new to Bein's work will enjoy his great story telling ability and the level of detail that goes into his plot line. However this detail doesn't slow the reader down. It is fast paced and facinating throughout.Readers familiar with the first two Fated Blade novels will appreciate the way Bein masterfully interweaves the history of some familiar characters into this novella. I personally was hoping for a substory like this in the "Year of the Demon" and when it didn't appear I was a little disappointed. This is far better than I imagined and incorporated so may aspects that, in other books, I would have felt like it was forced fan service but here just left me really amazed at the thought and detail this author puts into the history of all of his characters and the blades themselves.A note from the author at the end mentions "Streaming Dawn" was intended as part of his new novel "Disciple of the Wind" and was cut due to the length of the novel. However this book stands alone wonderfully. I haven't read "Disciple of the Wind" yet but based on the author's comments this novel should be read before or at the same time as "Disciple of the Wind" to get the most out of the 3rd Fated Blades novel (which I intend to buy as soon as possible).

By Kindle Customer I just recently discovered Steve Bein's books and I'm really looking forward to reading them all. It's usually difficult to for me to follow foreign names of characters, but Steve builds the characters into such real people that it is easy to differentiate them from one another without having to keep notes on who is who. I didn't want the book to end because the story and all its layers were fascinating, the action doesn't stop and I care about what happens to Kaida.

By The Qwillery Anyone who has read The Qwillery for a while knows that I am a fan of Jonathan Wood's Arthur Wallace/No Hero series, which starts with No Hero, continues with Yesterday's Hero and fortunately does not conclude with Anti-Hero. (Look for Broken Hero in October 2015).Anti-Hero starts with the most unusual funeral I've read about in a novel ever. The MI37 team - Arthur, Felicity, Kayla, and Tabitha - are at the funeral for Clyde (well a version of Clyde) when all hell breaks lose. Someone is trying to kill them with extreme prejudice. The team survives the attempt and ends up heading to New York City to help the CIA battle another version of Clyde - a really despicable and evil version who wants to do something really despicable and evil. At the CIA MI37 primarily liaise with Agent Gran, who is very laid back for a CIA agent. The MI37 team and Agent Gran are led on a merry chase from New York to Mexico to a famous US National Monument to deep in the Arctic. The goal - save the world...again! The CIA has some absolutely cool tech that is deployed at various times throughout the novel. The science is often implausible but fun and entertaining. There is magic of course and combined with science it creates a terrible threat to survival of humanity. In between the insanity that MI37 is dealing with Wood delves deep into the relationships of the MI37 members. There are heartbreaking emotional moments and relationships evolve and change. I was thrilled to see this evolution and changing dynamic among the team. These characters are not perfect - they are flawed, make mistakes, and continue to be believable. Wood puts the team through the wringer both emotionally and physically. There is a lot of soul-searching in Anti-Hero. What does it mean to be a hero is a central theme.Anti-Hero (like the preceding novels) is absolutely an ensemble piece and is told from Arthur's point of view. Arthur is a very unlikely hero. When he gets in a really tight spot Arthur asks himself "What would Kurt Russell do?" He seems to be moving somewhat away from having to ask that. However, Arthur could not do what he does without the support of the rest of MI37 (all 4 of them). Conversely the team would be much, much less without Arthur. They are an oddball collection who fit together wonderfully - even when they think they don't like each other, when it matters most they pull together and get things done.Wood has a knack for taking over the top scenarios and making them work beautifully. I would not expect anything less from an Arthur Wallace novel. The writing is crisp and the pacing breathtakingly fast. Tempering all the crazy, all the emotion, all the will they save the world again is just the right amount of humor. There are definitely laugh out loud moments.Anti-Hero starts off with a bang and has its foot on the accelerator until the nail-biting and extremely satisfying conclusion. It's an action packed Urban Fantasy with more than a touch of weird and a great ensemble cast lead by the very capable Arthur Wallace. Anti-Hero is frightening, fun and fabulous!Note: While you probably could read Anti-Hero without reading the prior two novels in the series, I suggest you do read them first.

By Chris Picked this up since I was a fan of the series, and was pleasantly surprised to find myself finishing the book in a day. If you haven't read the first 2 books in the series you will be a bit lost, but they cover enough backstory in the book to let you know what's going on and who's who.Basically, it kicks off with an assassination attempt at a funeral and doesn't really let up until the last page. Slow buildup to the action and then steady on until the end.I was not expecting the ending I got, and for that I am thankful because it means there are still writers out there who avoid tropes when they can and also can surprise me with where the plot goes and how the stories end. It's a 5 star series, with this book being the latest in the bunch. It's going to be a long wait till October.
