Review Reviewed By Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite  "Roma Gray sets the stage magnificently for her short story collection of horror tales, Gray Shadows Under a Harvest Moon: Six Trick-or-Treat Thrillers. Her stories crackle with tension and atmosphere, and sometimes you can even hear a ghoulish chuckling if you listen carefully. I particularly liked her vampire in the first story. Gray's writing is smooth and polished, and the reader quickly gets involved with the characters in her stories.'They're fun and suitably spooky for a dark evening's delight."(Excerpt from Readers Favorite)

Great Stories Leading to Even Greater Novels By gzim The intriguingly titled "Gray Shadows Under a Harvest Moon" by Roma Gray was an absolute pleasure to read! The book is a collection of six longish short stories that turn out to be more than just short stories: they are also the first chapters in novels of several interlinked series. The double good news is that these works make excellent stand-alone stories, while also serving to get their respective novels off to rousing good starts! Each of the stories is imaginative and original, written in an evocative, professional style, and full of interesting, well realized characters. They are all so different from each other that I am left in awe at the sweep and majesty of author Roma Gray's imagination.Feast on Fat Tuesday tells the story of a creature half ghost and half vampire that stalks and attacks vampires in the same way that vampires stalk and attack humans. But has he done his job only too well? Are there any vampires left to feed upon? And if not, what will become of this strange revenant? And Then Everything Changed recounts the discoveries of archeologists who are searching for the cause of the extinction of the advanced race that inhabited Atlantis. Could it be that they exterminated, and were exterminated by, an extinct race of intelligent, non-human beings related to dolphins? Did both races unleash weapons of mass destruction on the other race? And if so, could the archeological investigations uncover the still viable remnants of these deadly weapons and inadvertently release them on the public with deadly results? Yes, I'm afraid that these things just might be! Summer Vacation, perhaps my favorite of the bunch, tells of a teenager who was poorly treated by his family and started dabbling in witchcraft to pass the time and to put mild curses on his family members and other enemies. Then he travels across the country to live with his Native American grandmother on an island in the Pacific Northwest. He and his new friends find a mystery pit in a wooded ravine and start excavating it in hopes of discovering buried treasure, similar to the historical find on Oak Island. But meanwhile, have his spells grown into a malevolent power that he can no longer control? Very intriguing, suspenseful and atmospheric! The Invisible Carrier relates the grim story of an epidemic that is spreading through small isolated towns in the Pacific Northwest. The virus is traced back to a fruit bat that was illegally smuggled into the country. But people can't catch the infection directly from a fruit bat. There is some intermediary species much closer to mankind carrying a strain of the virus that is deadly to humans. Could that intermediary species be the legendary Sasquatch? Unnatural Disasters recounts a series of disasters around the world that have one thing in common: the disasters unleash some kind of force or effect that keeps killing people after the disasters have been abated. We follow the three protagonists of the story as they steal into the secured zone around a mega-hurricane site to try to rescue their mother. What they find instead is disturbing and quite chilling. Will the Real Monsters Please Stand Up introduces a lighter, more comic element into the series of grim disasters that we have been previously reading about. An archeologist and a surviving Egyptian pharaoh with magical powers form a strange partnership in order to find the hidden elixir of immortality and deliver it to a corrupt federal governmental agency which is holding the pharaoh's daughters hostage. The next part of the book consists of interviews with the main characters of the six stories. I must admit that I was a bit skeptical of this technique at the start, but I'm happy to say that it works! The six interviews manage to be informative about the coming novels that will build off of these short stories while at the same time being quite entertaining in their own right.Author Roma Gray has done an awesome job putting together a collection of such diverse and entertaining stories. If she has the energy and stamina to flesh these stories out into novels and series of novels as she intends to do, the reading public will be rewarded with a legacy of great books to read for years to come. I wish Roma Gray success in her ambitious project!

While the monsters may be what many will be accustomed to in the “Halloween” realm, the author went out of the mainstream to take some risks. The origins and evolution of familiar creatures such as vampires, ghosts, zombies, mummies, Bigfoot and more are highly imaginative. The format and virtual interview of characters from the stories were also unique. It was a good marriage of peculiarly original and familiar. What I liked more than the unique twists on familiar monsters was the way the author took the reader along for the ride. Her love for the genre is evident. She draws the reader into her passion for spooky stories. Upon reading the setup for the tales, the mood was definitely set. While the stories are meant to promote future works, the stories themselves hold up well enough to be considered stand-alone in nature. The short stories are precursors to novels the author has planned. The intent is to give the reader a voice on publication order. My favorite of the six stories is “And Then Everything Changed”. I don’t want to give too much away of the tale, but I can see it working as a SyFy series. It is like The Walking Dead meets Stargate, with a little bit of the X-Files thrown in for good measure. It was a fun read and would be my vote for the first novel published.Don’t skip the fictional interviews. These are devices the author has employed to give little tidbits of information to the readers in a clever fashion. I found them very humorous. Interviewing a fruit bat? Hilarious. The author has given herself a long list of future novels for publication. I am anticipating the demand will necessitate more than she has planned. She is one to watch.

SHADOWS and Light By Katrina Mink Populated by Mardi Gras stalkers, dreaming cities and skulls that bite, Gray Shadows Under a Harvest Moon is a fun and fast-paced read. Author Roma Gray offers six tales as diverse as they are terrifying: featuring alpha predators too adept at killing to survive, warlocks that unintentionally become victims of their own magic and a mummy who just doesn't know when to stay down, these "trick-or-treat thrillers" hit that sweet spot which leaves the reader satisfied, but still wanting more.At times author Gray weaves an almost incantatory magic, evoking memories both real and imagined. Within this world, mysteries sleep just beneath fallen leaves, secrets of the autumn season our protagonists cannot resist. No matter how fantastic or unlikely their origins, Gray's characters are natural and believable, giving these tales a richness and depth that is immensely gratifying. In turn sly and beguiling, Gray effortlessly weaves a world readers demand more of. Happily, that is all part of the plan. Each of the six stories in this slim volume is the first chapter of an upcoming novel. Not only that, the second section of the book is devoted to interviews with the denizen's of Gray's fictional worlds, further embellishing the fiction. From heroes who flee their self-invoked fates to the monsters who embrace them, Gray Shadows Under a Harvest Moon is an immensely readable and compelling little anthology. Recommended!
