About the Author Kate Cudahy comes from north-west England. She studied literature at the universities of Essex and York before moving to Poland in 2003, where she teaches English as a second language. Kate writes fantasy fiction with an LGBT focus. Her novels Hal and Hannac follow the exploits of a young duellist, Hal Thæc, as she searches for love against the odds. Kate is currently writing a third novel, The Firefarer, which she is serialising on Wattpad.

By Rebecca Hill Kate Cudahy has crafted a wonderful tale with "Hal", a story of a female duelist and how she finds the love of her life in Meracad, a nobleman's daughter. All of which sounds like a simple,straightforward story line but Hal is anything and everything but. From Hal's tumultuous upbringing which is shrouded in secret and Meracad's struggles for independence in an era where women were identified through their husbands and fathers, Hal is an amazing journey of two women who manage to find love with each other and their struggle to keep that love as unexpected events unfold around them.Kate Cudahy's writing is straightforward and quick and she has mastered the ability of presenting stunning visuals and tension-filled scenes with beautifully executed dialogue and description. Hal is not your average main character. Before you're done with this read, you'll be exasperated with her. And impatient when it comes to her and her impetuous decisions. But one thing you won't be is bored. I highly,highly recommend this story and I'll be keeping an eye out for any future writing by Ms. Cudahy. I have a feeling she's going to be an author to watch when it comes to future well-written LGBT stories.

Y'know how sometimes when you finish a really good book, you do not want to pick up another because you want to linger in that world just a wee bit longer. And on those rare occasions when you get immersed in a book that is so much better than what you’ve been reading, you just cannot read anything else because you know it won’t compare. For me, that perfectly describes this book.Characters are well-developed, with plenty of them to love (and hate). And, without giving anything away, there were some surprising moments and I really did not want this story to stop. (I did a more in-depth review at the WorldsEdgeTavern site, where I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)What's great about this book is that it is an excellent fantasy novel and an excellent lesbian romance novel. It was truly a great read.

The Great Thing About Hal By Vivian M Honestly one of my favorite books currently.This book has such a wide ranged of characters and I was surprised that this wasn't more out there.I was recommended by a friend and I am so grateful for that.The pace was perfect for me, it wasn't too fast and it wasn't too slow.Let me just say the most important thing to this was it was NOT predictable. Even with my amazing psychic future reading for books, almost all the things that Kate Cudahy throws at the reader was unpredictable. It was a thrilling ride of a book and I'm planning to buy Hannac (the sequel)
