Can love take root in the cracks of time? Air Force pilot Andromeda “Andie” Kim dreams of being chosen to join NASA so she can go to space. Instead, she’s stolen by savage kidnappers from a dystopian future where fertile women are needed for breeding purposes. One of her kidnappers, a man named Mace, goes out of his way to protect her from the other slavers, but she’s not about to trust him. All she wants is to escape and find a way back to her time before she's sold as broodstock and stuck in this ruined world forever. Colonel Aloysius “Mace” Theron of the Cascadian Alliance is a battlefield commander, not a spy, but after twenty years of service, he’s also trusted by his superiors. That’s why they choose him for a top-secret mission: to infiltrate an organization of thieves using a time machine to plunder the past. He’s supposed to find and destroy the machine, not fall in love with one of the captives, but Andie is as much of a fighter as he is, and he’s drawn to her from the beginning. Yet if he fights too hard to protect her, his identity will be discovered and his mission will fail, leaving criminals to terrorize the past, perhaps irrevocably changing history and endangering everyone he knows and loves.

By Abillard Time travel romance is something that evokes a very distinct concept for me: women from modern Western culture suddenly reappearing in pre-Treaty of Edinburgh Scotland. Because kilts. This book does not involve kilts or Scotland in any way. Andie and her friend Min-Ji are woman-napped into the future, where the Space Needle rises from the depths of the Puget Sea. While trying to escape their captors and return to their own time, Andie allies herself with Cascade Alliance Colonel Theron, who fortunately looks much better under the beard and grime than his patchy fur coat might suggest. This book contains copious amount of nudity, a mutually enthusiastic sex scene, kick-assery, as well as nude kick-assery. For people who care about this sort of thing, it also has competent characters, little whining or hand-wringing, a multi-ethnic cast, characters that have seen the far side of thirty, and witty banter throughout the story, even the doomed enemy guards. Heads up for those who might appreciate it: rape does happen off-text.I have read every text from this author under both pen names, and Stars Across Time lives up to her standard of adventure, banter, clever female leads with nothing to prove and excellent taste in men. 10/10 would recommend.

Time travel romance and adventure By Happy Customer8 I would put this book at 3, the lowest I have ever rated this author as she is one of my favorites. SOME SPOILERS HERE - you've been warned. I just had a hard time buying the attraction between the main characters in a situation where she was abducted and mistreated and threatened with gang rape (not by him, but still). That part of the story was just too rushed - for me, there needed to be some distance from that situation before the attraction started. It felt too contrived to me. I hesitate to say unrealistic because we're talking about a time travel romance for Pete's sake! I'm also not a huge fan of time travel romance so that plays into it. On the plus side, the character development is good and the action/adventure keeps you hooked, rooting for the characters until near the end. Alas, the end itself felt rushed and contrived and very predictable. All in all, this is not up to par with the author's usual work. It's a different genre and one I'm not all that into, but I still thought the story-telling just wasn't at the same level as other books.

By Ann de Vries I read this book through the Kindle Unlimited programme, so I won't show as a verified purchaser.I have almost all of this author's books and both my husband and I love them. This book was very different from her other work, but every bit as good in its own way. As I started reading it, I was taken aback at first. I was expecting a book in the style of EE or her Ruby Lionsdrake space series, but once I saw where it was going, I relaxed and went along for the adventure. The world building, characterization, and dialogue were excellent, as per the author's usual standards. The plot was very entertaining and the time travel, facilitated by a time machine, was a nice nod to H.G. Wells and early science fiction. The hero and heroine were very likeable and made a great team, while supporting characters were also well fleshed out. This story was definitely grittier than Buroker's/Lionsdrake's other works and the sex was more explicit. I'm quite catholic in my reading tastes. I like books with no sex, profanity or violence and I like them with a moderate amount of explicit sex, situationally appropriate profanity and moderate violence. With this book, Buroker told an engaging story with the right amount of sex and violence appropriate to the plot.I enjoyed this book as much as Buroker's/Lionsdrake's other books. It was very well written, held my interest and left me wanting more. While the quality of the writing and storytelling was of the same caliber as Buroker's other works, this book was very different. Readers who want another EE will be disappointed. Those who like to explore other genres and sub-genres, and can adjust to an author writing in more than one style, might really enjoy this departure from Buroker's norm.I highly recommend this book. Fans, read it for what it is, on its own merits, and not for what you expect or want it to be, and you will discover how versatile a writer Buroker is. Those new to Buroker/Lionsdrake, this is a departure from her normal style, but it is also an excellent read.
