In this urban fantasy, brilliant scientist Galena Margolis is determined to fulfill her destiny and develop the vaccine that could save millions. Yet when Galena’s test subjects meet with foul play, it’s clear that someone is still determined to stop her, and that Galena herself is a target. As the Ferry empire forges a plan to keep her safe, Declan Ferry, the politics-hating black sheep of the family, steps forward to protect her—but the emotional cost may be more than either of them is willing to pay.

As unknown enemies close in, it becomes terrifyingly clear that they threaten to destroy not only Galena’s lifesaving work but also the very fabric of fate. As Galena and Declan race to uncover the traitor, they also forge a special bond that could save both Galena and those she’s sworn to help. Torn apart by the past and hunted by those she trusted, can Galena find room amidst her fears for a passion that could make her stronger than ever? And even if she and Declan can find their way together, will it be enough to keep the future from coming apart at the seams?

5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. An unputdownable read! By woven 4.5 starsClaimed is book two in the Servants of Fate series, and I thought it was even better than Marked! I felt that the world became more unique and the characters more fascinating in this book. It was just an unputdownable read! While Marked was about Eli and Cacy, this time the story revolved around Eli's sister Galena and Cacy's brother Declan. Galena is a scientist, working on finding cures for the diseases ravaging the world, and Declan is a paramedic, part of the powerful Ferry clan, who wants to honor his father's dying wish of protecting Galena in order to save the future. We met Galena and Declan in the previous book, and it was clear from the beginning that they were going to have a deep, emotional bond. What happened to Galena and her brother years ago was devastating and traumatizing, and I'm glad Galena had someone as patient and protective as Declan at her side. They worked so well together, and their relationship was sweet and intense. I honestly couldn't get enough! After reading Claimed, it's no surprise I'm eagerly anticipating the release of the final book Fated. (I hope a certain intriguing Kere is one of the main characters!) This series is set in a harsh, yet captivating world full of wonderful characters, non-stop action, and amazing relationships. I highly recommend it!

Neurotransmitters sliding into receptors like hands into gloves. Acetylcholine. Serotonin. My body is a complex machine. A conglomeration of cells, each one with a designated purpose. – Galena Margolis – ClaimedGalena Margolis is brilliant. Brilliant – and broken. Body and soul damaged – and then there is her mind. Her brilliant mind, which holds the secrets of a vaccine which could be the salvation of a world flooded and destroyed. We first met Galena in Marked, the first in the Servants of Fate series, when she and her brother, Eli, arrived in Boston from the ‘desert wastelands’ of Philadelphia. The physical world qualifies as a ‘dystopia’ as climate change has destroyed much of the earth, leaving the places that remain changed beyond all comprehension. It is a bad, bad, very dangerous world out there, and Galena is in more danger than she could possibly imagine.Claimed picks up right after Marked, as Galena and Eli find their place, and reach for some sense of stability after Galena’s near death – and Eli’s rise from death. For this isn’t just a dystopian novel – it is a novel of life and death, of change and balance, and of a world where nothing will ever be as it was before. For the Ferrys are real – not just the richest family in Boston, the Ferry family are actual Ferrymen – servants of death who help the dead across the Veil and into the afterlife. Eli’s girlfriend and paramedic partner, Cacy, is a Ferryman, and Galena is someone – something – who could spell the salvation of the world – and someone wants her dead for it.I couldn’t say enough good about Marked, and my love of this series continues with the second installment. Sarah Fine is sharp, mercilessly realistic in a magical world overlaid upon a world destroyed by human angst and self-centred greed, and mightily creative. This is a world of layers – layers of well-developed characters, of fantastical thought processes and creative characters and worlds. I can’t recommend this book highly enough for those who like their books to have more than a single storyline, more than one dimensional characters, just more.I received this book from the publisher in return for a realistic review. I hope you will try the series – I loved it.

Margolis is traumatized after almost being killed the week before (also from a past brutal attack), but she is continuing with her research of a special vaccine (along with the help of her assistants Ankita and Jian). Galena is already doing human trials with five subjects. Galena’s vaccine is the only hope of stopping/conquering the plagues that are killing millions of people. Someone, though, is determined to stop Galena from creating the vaccine.Galena needs to be kept safe and alive, but how can that goal be achieved. Declan Ferry has taken an interest in Galena. He would like to get to know her, but time is not on their side. Cacy Kerry (Declan’s sister) comes up with a plan but are Galena and Declan ready to pay the price? Galena is going to have to overcome her violent attack in order to keep herself safe and create the vaccine that is badly needed.Someone is taking control of the Ker’s and making them go against the wishes of the Lord of Kere’s, Jason Moros. Who is behind these attacks? Aislin Ferry is now the Charon (as well as the head of the family company Psychopomps) and has a lot on her plate. She is trying to undo everything her wicked brother, Rylan did while in control as well as handle the attacks. Someone is trying to change the fabric of fate and everyone is going to have to work together to keep it from unraveling. To understand Claimed you need to read the first book in the series, Marked. I give Claimed 4 out of 5 stars. Please be aware that the book has a rape scene (Galena’s attack was mentioned in Marked and described in more detail in Claimed) and two sex scenes. I give Claimed 4 out of 5 stars. I liked the story but not as well as Marked. This book read more like a romance novel and did not have the intensity of Marked.I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
