6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. A GREAT CONCLUTION!! BEST IN ITS GENRE By Bobby J. Cooper What does one say after reading the last book in the Best series there is? People read these hoping to get some insight. Should you read it or not? YES!! I pondered this for a few days on what to say. This has been my favorite series and Im pretty tough to kerp my interest. This one did not disappoint!! It was bitter sweet watching Alex and his crew in action this last time:Yes I said WATCH. This is the kind of author that pulls you in with his talent. Makes the story have a heartbeat and you feel like youre there watching it unfold. You become part of the story Some of the best action scenes Ive ever read...I have read so many in this genre and THIS SERIES IS AT THE TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN!! Whether youre in to apocalyptic fiction or just want to read a great book look no further

He is a decent writer both in terms of depicting good, clear action scenes and creating characters who have more going for them than cardboard. I have read most of his books. This one does a good job of winding up the series. The only flaw was the abrupt changes he made in how the characters and society develop. The federal "governor" was previously depicted as an incipient fascist and part of an elaborate threat of some kind for the Feds to take over the country by martial law. But in the end this threat evaporates and we find it was all just: "oh, never mind, she was just trying to do her job. Let's all make nice and get along." And the real governor of the state similarly whipsaws from staunch defender of States rights into a schemer for a power grab by force. Meanwhile, somebody, sent a bunch of hired private soldiers to wipe out any resistance. Oh, and what about the Chinese plot? The Russians? There are so many loose ends you could snip them off and knit a sweater.

By claudette valliere Kudo's to the author on another great read.This one starts with the Russians who are grabbing everything they can because the US isn't in Europe to stop them.Also some payback to the Chinese and Isreal unloads nukes on ISIS. Pretty good start.Alex Fletcher is still in Great Pond, Maine. He his family and his extended family and friends are in several abandoned houses that they appropriated. Alex is wondering if they should stay or leave. They are going to try and grow vetetables but Winter has done a number on the beds that they had made and the seedlings they planted. Alex's sailboat in the marina is looking better and better to him.Alex and Charlie know they will run out of food and that the neighbors will be hungry as well. The two years worth of supplies that were stored in the cellar of the Walker home were stolen and never recovered. In fact no one owned up to the theft. The loss of those supplies will make it very hard for Alex and his family and friends to survive.The Gov of Maine wants nothing to do with the military, Homeland Security or any of the other RRZ. In fact she's declared independence from the RRZ and has seceeded from the Union.This is a fact Alex finds out when he tries to get some seeds at a wholesaler. A wholesaler who has been taken over by the Maine National Guard controlled by the Gov. The National Guard who never got the Category Five response plan that all other National Guards units across the country got. A response that placed them all under federal control. Alex knows this is a recipe for disaster on so many levels. It also leaves a battalion sized supply cache sitting untouched. A supply cache that these Main National Guard troops would have already collected had they received the Category Five Response plan.Alex then heads to the marina to check on his boat only to find its been comadered by the State of Maine. The Maine Independence Initiative to be exact. Things are not going well for Alex Fletcher.Alex's old commander, Col Sean Grady, asks Alex to check on that cache of supplies and Alex agrees to see if the supplies are still there or are gone.So begins one pretty damned good read.This one has Alex, his son Ryan who's one kick ass soldier in his own right, Charlie, Tom, Kate, Col. Grady, a trip to those warehouses supposedly full of supplies, a running gun battle with private contracors, Medina and the RRZ, blackhawk helo's, the RRZ and the State of Maine government at odds, a battle in Searsport, old friends, new friends and Alex Fletcher doing his best to figure it all out and keep everyone alive.Five Stars.
